You're just a day away from February ladies! Let me remind you that you are doing the most important job in the world right now, and you're doing great! As always, give us an update on how many weeks along you are and if you have any OB appointments scheduled for this week.

Good Morning Ladies.  It's the last day of January - we've almost made it into another month.

I'm 34 weeks + 4 days today.  Getting more uncomfortable each day.  My feet have started to swell, had some back aches, and then of course trying to sit and sleep comfortably with this little watermelon inside me is not getting easier.  Only 2 more 17p shots to go.  :)
Next doctor's appt is Wed Feb 2nd.  Groundhog Day  :D

Good morning roll call mommies!

I am 31 weeks yesterday cooking twin boys :). II am happy to say that I am feeling positive with this start of a new week.  I have no appointments or commitments this week, so it should be a quiet one...

At the end of last week I really started to feel bored and stir crazy.  I am starting week 4 on home bed rest and have run out of tv shows to catch up on...any one out there have suggestions for great tv series, or movies they've seen lately?  We watched Secretariat and Red this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed both.

There are at least 3 of us on here that are 31 weeks along this week which is kinda fun!  Last week at roll call there were a few mommies that thought they were getting pretty close to having their babies - Can't wait for the updates!

Keep up the great work mommies!

Yvonne

Hello,

I am new to the board.

I am 27 weeks and 3 days.  I have a drs. apt on Tuesday. I have been wondering if I will come off of bedrest if things are improving. But I figure if things are improving on bedrest then I will probably stay on bedrest.  Is that about right?

arenee22 - don't get your hopes up and you won't be disappointed.
I used to think my bedrest would only be temporary....that was 67 days ago.

Congrats on another week, mamas!

I'm 37+5 today, and I'm being induced tomorrow morning. My OB will insert a foley cath. around 8-9 am. And then we'll see how that goes and see if we'll need to do an amniotomy later on.
I'm admitted today, not allowed to sleep home tonight even, because my BP's today have been high, first one was 177/100 and the second one 148/115.
I also have water in my feet, and I have no ankles. A little protein in my pee, and a terrible headache (forehad) that's been there since tuesday. Dizzy, and some visual disturbances.
I'm shaky from the high bloodpressure.
Last week was bad, so much anxiety, I haven't felt safe for a second, so I actually can't wait to get him out now. Hopefully I'll get the natural VBAC I want!
He was estimated to 6 lbs 12 oz today, so good size on him too.

OMG Pixie.
I'm excited for you, but also nervous.  I hope they can keep your BP down!  Your baby is a good size, that is great news.
Tell us novices - is a foley cath, just a regular cathiter (sp?)?   What is an amniotomy??

Thanks, I think I'm both excited and nervous too. My OB said that if my BP doesn't go down a little, I'll have to get some meds to keep it down, so I'm hoping it'll go down just a little now so I don't have to have the meds. I'd like to avoid that.

And sorry, I keep forgetting not everyone is as into this as I am. A foley catheter is not a regular catheter, it's a cath. with a balloon at the end that is placed in your cervix. You have water in the balloon so it puts pressure on the cervix to help ripen it and open.
And an amniotomy is simply breaking of the bag of waters.
I don't want pitocin or prostaglandins since they both increase the risk of a c-section which I do not want at all. And my OB agreed that this was a good way to induce me. (Also, with a previous c-section, prostaglandins is not the best idea.) I'll agree to a very small dose of pit. in the end if labour doesn't go anywhere, I'll take that over a c-section, but I want to avoid it if I can.
Baby is in excellent position too, left-anterior vertex, ideal really.

Writing from the hospital bed now. Waiting for them to take a new BP. I'm crossing my fingers for it to be lower.
They're also doing a CTG soon, and blood work. I know baby is doing great though, he's active as usual, and he was perfect on the ultrasound earlier today.
And I'm just gonna say it again, he's full term! That is so amazing to me.

@arenee22, well, tomorrow or wednesday I'm guessing. I can take some time, you never know.

Hi! This is my first time on the blog. Reading your posts this morning has been great. Tomorrow I'll be 22 weeks pregnant and have been on bed rest due to serious bleeding since week 15. I have a doctor's appt next Monday for an ultrasound to see how the blood clot is looking.
Hoping everyone's weeks are off to a great start!

Pixie - Congrats on making it full term!!! I hope your BP issues resolve on their own and you have a wonderful easy birth. I'm so excited for you to be so close to holding your little one in your arms!  ;D

arenee22 - Welcome and I'm going to agree with previous posters that generally once you're put on bed rest you usually aren't released until either the babe is born or you get close enough to full term that your HCP agrees to release you. In my situation my OB and I agreed that once I hit 35 weeks I'll be able to do a lot more, including returning to work. However I work at my hospital and I am in an office setting (mostly sitting, no lifting required) so hopefully it won't push me into preterm labor. But I'm not holding my breath because who knows what can happen between now and then!

LizR - Welcome to you as well! I'm hoping you have a great week as well!

I just started on my 30th week over the weekend. I have an appt Thursday with the diabetic clinic and I'm excited to say that with minimal changes to my diet all of my blood sugar levels have been well within normal range. I mainly found that I have to eat a lot more frequently and make sure I'm spacing out my carbs as to not overload my system. My biggest weakness has been getting rid of 7UP. I know...I'm kind of pathetic....it's just that had been helping sooo much with some of nausea issues. Also have an appt on Friday with my OB and will be getting another FFN and my 17P injection.

Has anyone noticed their older child acting differently? My son will be 3 at the end of February and had been an excellent sleeper and now is having tons of problems staying asleep and seems to be having a hard time leaving the house without me. He actually started crying this weekend when his grandma was picking him up to take him swimming for his cousin's birthday party. I feel sooo bad for him!  :'(

Sorry for the novel. I hope everyone has a fantastic week!!

Hello to all!!   I'm now 30 weeks 2 days.  Still in hospital bed rest - It's already been 6 weeks, 2 days since I've been here.  Everything is the same, no contractions, still with an open cervix.  I have an u/s tomorrow and my husband will be here to see our boy - really looking forward to that!!
Happy to hear everyone is doing well.
Good thought and prayers sent your way!!!

Great job on making it this far ladies - you're doing an amazing job!!!

Well Grayson decided he couldn't wait any longer - he was born Sunday at 3.45am - 32weeks 3 days- barely 3 days but none the less.

I went into prem labour friday around noon again - and they had it stopped around 8am Saturday - so I went from ICU to Post pardum ward to just be observed. Well then at 2pm my water broke and back to labour and delivery we went. I was contracting every 5 minutes but not too strong so i was loaded with oxy and by 3am fully dialated and pushing.

he didn't want to come out as bad as we thought - and was almost out for about 20 minutes - so out came the scalple and the forcepts - but he was screaming and pink when he came out.

he's doing great!! he's big big big for 32 weeks 5lbs 10 oz - but his daddy is 6'7"!! he was on oxygen for about 8 hours, but has been off for almost 30 hours with no issues. We had a consult with the lactation specialist and she's happy that he's starting to suck and we can start learning to nurse.

Ladies you're doing great!! I may have gone early - but that doesn't mean that you will - so please stay positive.
I'm here with Gray in the Nicu until he gets to go home hopefully in 4 weeks - so i'll be checking in and reminding you to stay positive.

Praying for all of you always!! You can do this!! and you are doing the best thing you can for your little one(s) - giving them the best start you can by keeping them in as long as you can.

Congrats Jac!  My goodness - he is a big boy.  I'm 34 weeks, and my baby is only 4lbs, 5oz.  That is really good though - the weight will help keep him warm and hopefully out of NICU soon so you can take him home.  Best Wishes.  Congrats again.  Update us again soon.

Delivered yesterday at 36 weeks, twin boys Joseph and Andrew 6 lbs 2 oz, 5 lbs 6 oz.  Joseph spent six hours in level ii nursey because of some breathing priblems but is now back in the room with us.  Tired but excited and ready to leave the hospital after being here for seven of my eleven weeks of bed rest!  Keep hanging in there ladies and keep em cooking!!

Congrats to Jac and twins2bintx!!  It is so nice to hear the babies are doing well!!  You guys were such troopers throughout your bedrest and am so happy for you!!!  Wow Jac, he is huge - are you sure you had the correct weeks??!!!  ;)  Congrats girls!!

Hey tntmom!!  Glad to hear you're doing well.  It's funny you mention about your son.  Before bedrest my 19 month old daughter was all about mommie, but since i've been in bedrest - especially hospital bedrest - my poor child has been acting different.  She seems sad to see me at first everytime she comes - then she'll go about her thing and not have that poopy face she first gives me that breaks my heart in a million pieaces  :'(.   She's not as affectionate with me as she used to.  When she sees me up, taking a shower she'll come running to me to carry her, and when she sees I can't, she'll hug and kiss my leg.  This has to be so hard on them too, but once this is all over, we'll be able to do everything for them once again.

Hello Ladies!

I am 27 weeks and have been on HBR for 4 weeks.

Had a good u/s today.  My cervix length is still looking good and we are so happy it is stablized for now.  My contractions increased a bit at the end of last week, so they increased the settings on my terb pump (which we had been expecting).  Doctors are happy with my cervix length and told me to continue the good job on BR, so that is encouraging!

Prayers and hugs to everyone!!!

Hi again!
Just read a blog post from @jackhourigan. She is a host on the Food Network and is currently on bedrest. I got a kick out of it. Hope you all do too! http://ow.ly/3Nsbx

Here's excerpt:
Living with my Mum was never boring.  Imagine if  Zsa Zsa Gabor and Winston Churchill procreated and produced a 4 foot 9 offspring who had a passion for translating anything into Latin while sporting tiny leopard print leggings.  At 83, with limited eyesight she still devours two newspapers and a book a day, continuously runs CNN on her flat screen and has never failed to miss an episode of Jeopardy since 1964. FYI, don’t ever call her at night between 730 and 8:00 pm, she’ll never pick up.   (Note: we had a house fire growing up and my Mum didn’t believe my brother that our laundry room was in flames because she didn’t want to be disturbed during Jeopardy-true story)

Throughout her many years, and ten pregnancies,  she has never lost her own unique sense of style. She’s been through several experimental fashion/decor “phases” which have included and not been limited to:  a  60’s “Japanese” themed black fringe wig with only throw pillows for furniture, a 70’s bleach blond beehive bombshell  turn complete with beaded minis dresses and dangling crystal  chandeliers  and red velvet decor , and a late  80’s floor length Morticia Adams/Crystal Carrington shoulder padded  voluptuous house dress stage;  I particular confusing choice during my formative high school years.

Hey everyone! I started my bed rest this past Thursday. I will be 27 weeks tomorrow. We are expecting baby boy Loran on May 5th. I am on bed rest due to a short cervix and also because I am having a lot of contractions. I started out being allowed to get up for about 30 minutes to fix a simple meal or do a simple house chore, but after going to the hosiptal on Friday due to lots of contractions within an hour, they said I can't get up at all except to shower and go to the bathroom.

I'm a preschool teacher, so this inactivity is a BIG change for me! I'm sad because I didn't even get to say goodbye to my precious students. I have a doctor's appointment this Wednesday and I am hoping to have permission to go to the school to give them a propper goodbye maybe next week or something. Of course, I will do what my doctor tells me.

Hi Loran Mommy- your situation sounds very similar to mine.  I am 26 weeks tomorrow, due date May 10th, baby boy.  I was admitted to the hospital for observation over the weekend because of cramping and my cervix did shorten but I am still at a 3.14.  I'm on modified bed rest, I can get up and make a small meal, take showers, etc. but it seems like overkill for my situation.  I had 3 contractions Friday night in 3 hours, but mostly just menstrual like cramping.  What do you think?

Best of luck with the bed rest.  It is difficult when you are used to being active.  Do you have other children?

My biggest congrats on making it to term! You did it, mama. So happy for you!

Because you're showing symptoms of preeclampsia, be sure they keep an eye on your blood pressure even AFTER delivery. The risks of pre-e remain up to 6 weeks after delivery. Are they doing regular blood testing? They will want to keep a close eye on your creatinine levels, which is a measure of kidney function. With BP readings like that, it may be overly-taxing on your kidneys. In fact, ask if they have already checked your creatinine level, and write it down.

Write down ALL of you symptoms now, and again after delivery. This lets you have a clear picture of any changes and it is something specific you can hand to your nurses/doctor. When I had pre-e, I thought the nurses and docs were communicating with each other, and they weren't. My pre-e went undetected and quickly lead to kidney failure. I was on BP meds for about 6 weeks after delivery.

One more thing: Are you having any pain under your right rib? That it also a tell tale sign of pre-e. And do you have bleeding gums or hyperactive reflexes? Those are other signs. Not trying to freak you out, just want to be sure that you get the attention you deserve and any care you may need.  :-*

PLEASE mention all of this to your husband and/or a trusted family member so they know the right questions to ask. You may be too tired or too focused on your baby to pay attention to what you're experiencing after delivery.

Thank you!
And you can't freak me out with this stuff, i had severe pre-e and developed HELLP syndrome last time. My whole system and every internal organ was in crash mode and failing.
So yeah, they've been doing regular blood draws to screen for pre-e now. (So far all good!)

My OB knows every symptom, and has every test result, she is responsible for me, she is going to follow up after birth too. She's even doing the 6 week follow up on me, that you usually have to go to your GP to do. She's keeping a very close eye! She's excellent.
And because of last time, my SO knows all this stuff too.

I'm in labour as we speak. I've taken forever to write this, because I have contractions every 1-1.5 minutes, lasting as long.
Yay!

Hey Bridget,

My modified bed rest started actually 2 Wednesdays ago...my doctor said I could still work but when I got home I had to lay down the rest of the day and night. Also, no lifting or straining. After a week of that, she put me on bed rest like yours...still could get up and do a simple meal and all that. Then after my hospital visit, it is now complete bed rest. So it's been a bit progressive.

To be honest, I was a nervous wreck that week I could still go to school to teach. I was terrified to even walk around. Luckily, I had a lot of students out sick (I only had anywhere from 10 to 13 in my class instead of 20), so that made it a bit easier. With those 4 and 5 year olds there is lots of bending and squatting involved. It was a relief to be put on bed rest. I know what you mean about overkill, but take it seriously (as I'm sure you are). I'm sure they already told you, but drink a lot of water. My contractions have come to almost a complete stop because I'm drinking so much. Of course you have to pee ALL the time (not that there's much difference here), but I'd rather have to pee a lot than have contractions!

Best of luck to you as well. I have no other children...human ones at least! I have 2 little dogs to keep my company all day :) Do you have children?

I'm new to this board.  I'm currently 22wks 4 days, have been on bed rest since Dec 7 (14wks) when I had a preventative cerclage placed due to previous losses.  I'll be on bed rest until 36 weeks.

Sorry for checking in late. We had little Evelyn Audrey at 41 weeks and 1 day at 8lbs 12 oz! Goes to show you that a short cervix isn't a guarantee for PTL. I tried everything to bring the baby on after 40 weeks - my biggest fear was being induced after 16 weeks of bedrest as I was hoping for a natural birth - minimal intervention. We tried intercourse, spicy foods, even hula hooping but she wasn't coming till her time was ready.

Labour itself was pretty wild. I had sporadic contractions on and off from sunday night but didn't go into active labour at 7am on Wednesday morning. I passed my mucous plug and then minutes later my water broke (a la Hollywood) in one big gush at 8.15am which started my contractions to go every minute for a minute and a half. Of course by then it was full on rush hour which meant a 20 minute drive was now going to take 1-1.30 hours. My mom was great though and got us to the hospital in 45 minutes driving on the paved shoulder of the highway with me screaming and swearing all the way!! There was a moment where I knew it was going to be a funny story but at the time I didn't care. Little Evie was born within 2 hours of arriving at the hospital and 40 minutes of pushing. It was intense but I am really happy with how my birth went. It was so fast though that I hemmoraged, all is fine now, but I am just really exhausted and probably will be for the next few weeks until my iron is back up. Luckily I have practiced laying on the couch with all the bedrest! LOL

I have to say ladies that after this whole journey I do want to let you know another silver lining of bedrest - this past week since delivering has been exhausting and it is so NICE that everyone at home is 'well trained' to know what I like and how I like it!!!!! And believe me how nice it is for someone to make you a perfect cup of tea or your favorite comfort food when you are as sleep deprived (aka cranky) as you are and the laundry and tidying up is being done as well (without being nagged).

Jac - congratulations, sounds like Gray is a little champ. I'm sorry he didn't cook as long as you hoped but I think all will go well for you. I am amazed at his weight - that is so great.

For everyone else - happy cooking. Can't wait to hear about your births and am hoping for full term for all of you!

Hello All,

I just got home from the doctor. Everything was looking good and has stayed the same, so I am relieved. She told me that she really wants me on my back for the next 3 weeks and once I get through week 30 (I'm 27 weeks now), she will let me do a little more...that is if things remain the same. She says little Loran is extremely low and she could really feel him. I go back in another week and praying for things to stay the same (or get better of course)!

Welcome Keewee

Congrats-pillow queen, what a wild story :-)

Loran-glad your dr visit went well

I am so sleepy, which doesnt seem right since I dont do much, but sit or lay around. Anyone else having 1st trimester sxs like gas and nausea?

I never had gas in 1st trimester, but nausia was bad. My husband got me those sea bands you wear on your wrist for sea sickness. It may have been power of suggestion, but I thought they worked for me. They are not very attractive looking...it looked like I was trying to bring back the 80's sweat band look lol! But I didn't care as long as I felt alright. Give it a try - if anything it will at least make you feel like it might be working.

I get sleepy on bed rest ALL the time! Laying down all the time will do that to you! Also, I was exhausted in my 1st trimester...I would come home from work and lay on the couch until I went to bed.

Hello ladies!  I had my baby girl Paisli Lynn on Jan. 28 at 2:39.  She was a healthy 7 lbs. 11 oz. and 21 inches long. Needless to say since that day life has been a little chaotic!  I can't thank Angela and all the Keepemcookin ladies enough for all the support during my 13 weeks of bedrest!  Without bedrest there is no way my baby would have been born as healthy as she was.  I will definitely still lend support as I truly believe in the benefits of community during pregnancy.

If you would like to know what my husband thought about the birth of our child visit his blog at www.babiessportsbeer.blogspot.com. If you are interested, he also wrote a blog about Keepemcookin that you may enjoy as well.

Hugs and best wishes to all!  Stay positive and take it day by day it will all be worth it in the end!

Lyns

Our littlest brother is here!
Wednesday, 6.16 pm.
He's perfect!
2565 grams (5 lbs 10.5 oz) and 47 cm (18.5 inches).
38+0 weeks.

I got my VBAC! And not just that, it was fantastic! Dream birth. Couldn't have been better.
I haven't written it down yet, but I'll be back with that and pics, it's a wonderful story.

I'm in excellent shape, I was up and walking two hours after birth and have felt great ever since. Just a little tired, but I have a newborn I have to keep looking at. :D

Popcorn got the "perfect sticker" from the ped. yesterday. And he is a rockstar nurser.
So all is well, and we're just enjoying every minute snuggling, we're so in love!

Congrats to the other mamas who also had their babies!! Enjoy!

A little late for role call, but since I'm new I'll introduce my situation. I'm 18weeks, 3 days pregnant with twins, we're not finding out what they are. I was put on a modified bedrest last Monday (tomorrow will be a week) for contractions but my cervix was 3.68cm then. Friday I went to my specialist and discovered my cervix is now 2.7cm. I was sent to hospital contracting and started on medication, then sent home on strict bedrest on oral meds. I have an appointment tomorrow with my regular OB to check cervical length again to determine further course of action. Thank you ladies for all of your stories! Keep us posted!

Good luck Melody - sounds like they are taking your situation seriously, which is great.  Follow the doctor's orders and try not to go crazy on bed rest (easier said than done).  Best Wishes for 2 healthy babies.
