Title: Monday Roll Call for February 28
Post by: Angela on February 28, 2011 at 08:08 AM
Look at you! One day until March 1st! I came across a quote from a Greek philosopher named Epictetus that I thought might be a good mantra for getting through those tough moments on bedrest when you're feeling down or like it won't ever end:

"No great thing is created suddenly."

My sister had her 19/20 week ultrasound last Thursday and I'm excited to report that she is expecting a girl! And with our family history of preterm birth, I'm even more excited to announce that her cervix is measuring a healthy 4+ cm. A short cervix is an excellent predictor of preterm birth (info here: http://keepemcookin.com/prevention.aspx) so I'm thrilled things are looking good.

Anybody else have appointments last week? Any trips to L&D for monitoring? And what else is going on?

Keep 'em cookin', mamas!

Today is my last 'still cookin' rollcall.  Going to be induced tomorrow morning.  I can NOT believe that I lost my mucus plug on the 16th, was 4cm dialated on the 17th, then 5cm dialated on the 23rd - and I'll have to be induced because I'm not going into labor.  It's insanity after all of the 17p injections and bed rest and trebutaline!  I tried several 'home remedies' this weekend to induce labor and not one contraction came from those efforts.  So glad today is my last day of pregnancy because the heartburn is absolutely horrible these days.

I'm excited to be at the end of my journey, and I'm excited for all of you ladies who are still cookin this week.

Congrats Reagan!!  I'm jealous, I wish I was going to deliver tomorrow...

I'm still here, cooking away.  Been feeling extremely tired and queasy these last couple of days and kinda out of sorts.  Also been having numbing feelings all across my abdomen.  It seems she is right beneath my skin.  I can feel her head constantly on my right side (she is breech). There's so many things I would like to do to prepare for her arrival, it stinks I can nest right now :(.

Failed my first GD test last week, heading to OB wednesday so they can lidocaine my fingers and do a glucose finger reading for 3 hours as my 2nd test.  I'm crossing my fingers that the results will be negative, b/c GD is the last thing I need right now.  Then high risk specialist doctors appointment on Thursday along with my 17p injection.  I'm excited to see how much weight she has gained since my last high risk appt 2 weeks ago.  I'm hoping my cervix has stayed stable as well.

The weather has been soooo beautiful here, my friends offered to bring a lounger to the beach yesterday to get me out for a few hours, but I feel weird now when I am out so I passed on it.  This week marks 30 weeks, I'm counting them down - I hope the next 2 months goes by FAST so I can enjoy life again outside this darn house!

Good luck to all!
Lori

Reghan-congrats again, super excited for you. Bet it feels good to be up and around. Good luck tomorrow, I will be thinking of you.

AFM: I failed my 3 hour glucose test  :(   I go for diabetic training tomorrow and I also see my reguluar ob and have a growth scan.

I am 31 weeks

Congrats Lori on 30 weeks & good luck on your GD test.

Arenee - Sorry to hear you failed the test.  :(   Once you get the hang of counting carbs, it's not that terrible.  I kept a journal of what I ate so that I could look back and see what foods I had the best results with, and what time of day it seemed I could handle more carbs.  Sorry again though....I know it seems a lot worse when you are already on bedrest.  To me it felt like they were taking my last bits of freedom away!  :(   On the brightside, the new diet seemed to take some of the chubbiness out of my pregnant cheeks.   :D
At least pat yourself on back for making it to 31 weeks!!

NEWS FLASH AGAIN !?!

This morning I had a doctor's appt - I am still 5cm dialated!  Because nothing has changed since last week she wants to follow  "the rules" and wait until I am 39 weeks to induce me.  So our NEW date for being induced is Friday March 4th.
this is going to be the longest week of my life   :-\

Lol, oh no Arenee...  When you were all being treated for GD, did you have to do the glucose monitoring at home every day?  I don't think I'll be able to do that to myself.  I couldn't do it last week, hence the reason I am going to the doctors to have them do it this week....I am the biggest sisssy lol.

Checking in...

I'm officially at 28 weeks! It was my first goal when I first was put on bed rest 6 weeks ago. I don't want baby to come yet but I feel a sigh of relief that should he come he has a high survival rate :) I see my dr on Wednesday & have a scan scheduled & need to do my glucose test. I am not looking forward to any of this :( I have had to help my hubby a little around the house & for work since we own a business & work from home. It's nothing strenuous but I'm not happy to be upright as much as I have been this past week. Having lost my mother's help & my older child being home for Spring Break hasn't helped my cause at all sigh..

Hey Ladies-

Another week passed!  We are 35 weeks now and had my growth an and cervix ultrasound this past thursday.

My cervix is practically immeasurable and baby A is so low in my pelvis that I worry that I am squishing his little noggin.

My contractions seem to start up get organized then after a bunch of hours - die off - never getting any more forceful.  It makes it difficult to know what is going on with these babies.  My OB tells me that if the boys don't come by 37 weeks on their own - they will schedule me for induction at 38 weeks.

I have a hot date with my best girlfriend for some girl-time tomorrow and a biophysical ultrasound this thursday to check the boys out.  I am looking forward to both these things :)

Have a great week everyone & Reganah - have an amazing birthing day!  Great work!

Yvonne

Hi ladies,
I am 31 weeks 3 days today. Everything is going very well. I haven't had any contractions yet and had a stable cervix at 1.7cm for the last 2 weeks. Just my blood pressure and my heart rate have increased a little bit. Now I have to have an NST every week.

Tomorrow I am going for the third NST. Also my OB thinks it is beneficial to get the steroid shot this week in case I go to labor in the next few weeks so I am going to take the shots on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

I will have my babyshower on Saturday and I will be 32 weeks by then. Just 5 more weeks to get to 37. Stay in there baby! :)

Sara.

I am 27 weeks tomorrow and have been on bedrest for 3 wks already. I have pre-eclampsia and am on medication to try to keep my blood pressure down. So far so good. My little boy, Eli ,is growing very well. No growth restriction yet. We have another growth scan in a week to make sure he is still on track. I have had three other children, all ending in pre-eclampsia but only one with growth restriction. This is my earliest onset of Pre-E yet so I am being monitored very closely. I know that worrying will not help my blood pressure so I continue to trust that there is a plan for me and baby Eli. Every day he stays inside me is a blessing. Now, if I could just improve my attitude about my sore butt and back from being in this bed!!

Congrats to Yvonne, Sara, GrowinEli, & Aylw88.  You are still cookin'...good job.  Like someone else said, every single day makes a difference for your babies.

I'm on a jail break this morning, ha ha....  I guess it doesn't matter now that we are past 38 weeks, but my husband is taking me to Waffle House for breakfast - woo hoo!  Then to the doctor to find out about the 'inducing' that will take place Wed morning.

I'm 31 weeks today! This was my personal goal because my dr said she might modify my bed rest at this point if things remained the same. I go tomorrow to find out. I'm also relieved because last week I had a ton of blood drawn to check if I had cholistasis. I've been EXTREMELY itchy all over my body - like going crazy over it, and the blood work came back normal. Now to figure out what's causing all this itchiness! I know my tummy is stretching and that can cause an itchy tummy, but I'm talking my entire body...from my head to my toes. I'm clawing at myself! Nothing seems to help! Lotion makes me hot and sticky, special soaps help a little and so does benadryl, so I'll keep up with that. Anyway, no cholistasis is good because it can be very dangerous for the baby and pregnancies have to be induced early to get that baby out healthy.
I'm also happy because in about 20 minutes my friend is picking me up to go and visit my students!! They have no clue I'm coming so I'm interested to see their reaction! I'm hoping for a big commotion :)
Loran's room is slowly coming together, so I'm very excited. The swivel glider chair came in last week from pottery barn kids and I love it! I have my baby shower this weekend too, so I'm looking forward to that. Anyway, all is well over here!! Good luck to everyone!

Still cookin at 22 weeks. Just had my appointment and baby is looking good & the cerclage is holding up no funneling or dilating :)

I'm supposed to do my glucose test in 2 weeks but i had gastric bypass and can't drink that much sugar at one time or else I vomit. So my doctor is trying to find alternative ways for me to test.

Also, I've gained 6 lbs in 2 weeks bringing my total to 8 lbs. At the beginning I lost 2 lbs then another 2 then gained 2 then stayed steady and suddenly gained 6. She's very concerned which has me a little freaked out. I still get nauseous and can't tolerate much. So I'll probably have to see a dietician sometime soon.

Other than that things at the home front have been good. My husband comes home next month :) I'm so excited!

Hope all you ladies are doing well :)

Reaghan!
Congrats on making it so far!! Good luck tomorrow w/ being induced. Sooo very exciting!!!
Great hearing from all of you guys.
I'm 26 weeks along and been on bed rest since week 14.5. Insanity. I had a few low weeks but am trying to stay positive. My c-section is scheduled for May 31 (I had a c-section w/ my first pregnancy). So, only 13 weeks to go. Woo hoo! I think I'm feeliing optimistic now that it is March. Still wintery here in Chicago but at least I know there will be some good weather coming at some point this month! Even if only for a day!
I haven't had any bleeding in 5 weeks so my doctor has granted me TWO outings a week!! Another woohoo. I've been out to dinner and to the movies. Anyway, hoping you ladies are hanging in there.
thanks!

I didn't gain any weight in the first 4 months and then suddenly had gained 8 at 5 months! I freaked out! Then gained another 4 after just 2 weeks and then 2 every week since then...totalling at 25 as of last week and I'm now 31 weeks. If you're 22 weeks and have only gained 8 lbs, I'd say you're doing very well!! As long as your glucose test goes ok, then I would not be worried. You're supposed to gain weight during pregnancy, so as long as it gains steadily, then it's alright. It's losing it later that's hard!

Also, got home a while ago from visiting my students and I got my big commotion! They were so happy to see me and I was so happy to see them. It made my whole week to see those cuties :) they all came running and gave me a million hugs and were all trying to talk to me at once. I had to go around the room and let them all have a turn to tell me something. It was fun :)

Hello everyone. 22weeks tomorrow, starting into my fifth week on bedrest with twins and shortened cervix. I have an appointment Friday with my specialist to check cervical length and measure the babies. I'm just getting over a bad sinus infection which moved into my chest and exacerbated my asthma. I've been having to take breathing treatments all weekend... :-\   Right now I'm just counting down the weeks until viability. All the aches and pains of pregnancy are starting, which make me laugh because I've always been the one to tell my pregnant patients: "That's all normal" (and implied: "You're just going to have to put your big girl panties on and deal with it!")
I believe I have two little soccer players in there, for they have hourly matches now which leave me sore!
@ Reagan - the only advice I can give you on speeding up the process is intercourse.  :P Sounds awful right now I know, but semen is a natural prostaglandin, which can help ripen the cervix or induce labor. In labor and delivery we use cervidil, which is a synthetic form of prostaglandin to induce or ripen for labor. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
@ Yvonne - Good for you for making it this far! I pray I make it to 35 weeks with my twins!!! Have fun with your girlfriend!
@ Arnee - I fully expect to fail the GD screening when it's time. I was borderline with my daughter and I was working out with her! There's no wonder we all turn into piles of GOO laying around like we do. Food can be a little of a comfort thing and the ONLY thing we might have some control over.
Keep on Keepin' on everyone! Slowly but surely we are getting there!
Melody

Hi Ladies,

Sorry I am a little "tardy" for roll call, my internet has been down since last Friday.

I am officially at 25 weeks today! My Cerclage is holding well and my cervix is holding steady at 1.5cm.  I have a weekly appt. on Friday so we will see how we are doimg again then. Been on bedrest 5 weeks.

Reagan, hope the week is going by quickly for you. What an accomplishment. I hope and pray I can make it another 10 weeks!

Hope you are all having a wonderful Wednesday.

@Reagan: I love that you did a "news flash." I am so sorry they postponed your induction. I know you must be so excited/anxious/off the wall by now! Can't wait to hear about the safe and speedy arrival of your baby girl on Friday (or maybe before). Biggest hugs!!!  :-*

Just an update: had my dr & ultrasound appointments today & found my cervical length is now 1.8cms from 1.1cms & the funneling we saw 2 wks ago has disappeared! My baby is on the small side tho & now I'll need weekly ultrasounds to check his weight & growth  :( aside from that I am very happy that my cervix is behaving !  ;D

Hi ladies!!  I know, a little late for roll call.  It's really nice to read about all the progress that's taken place thus far.
I'm now 34 wks 5 days and have been out of hospital bedrest at my mother's home for 2 wks 5 days after a 2 months stay at hospital!!  Still cookin which makes me so happy after all.  Needless to say, I'm full of aches and pains everywhere in my body.  I'm sooo weak!!  I have a difficult time getting myself up from the sofa every time I have to use the bathroom.  The joints in my hands are hurting so much for some reason, and my back is hurting so much...... I could go on and on, but I have to admit, I'm so glad i've reached a point in my pregnancy where I have all these discomforts that begin later on in pregnancy!!
Reaganh3 - GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!!!!!!

My appts went well this week....went for 2nd GD test and it came back negative, thank God and today my cervix was up to 2.9.  Doctor said I could "walk", not swim, in the pool for exercise, and I can actually go out and get a prenatal massage.  She said in 2 more weeks, she will let me go out for a quick dinner, go to the dentist etc.... just can't do more than 1 thing per day.  I am soooo excited that there is now a light at the end of the long dark tunnel.  Amazing how the little freedom I'm being granted now is so appreciated, where prior to being told I could no longer enjoy those freedoms, they were always taken for granted.

Baby Gia also got a good report today....she is now 3 lbs and 15 inches long, way to go Gia!

Thank you Mckoygirl and yes, that light has made a world of difference in my state of bedrest depression...

Welcome to bedrest flowerchica....I won't lie, for me it has sucked and been awful.  It's been only 6 weeks so far, yet it feels like 6 months.  It is starting to get easier, but I think that's only b/c I consider myself past the "danger zone" and b/c my dr has told me they will ease up in a couple of weeks.  Good luck to you, this forum has been great for support and to get me through the long days!

@ Flowerchica - Welcome! My "stint" will end up being 20+ weeks, God willing! I would like to make it to 37 weeks with my twins before I deliver. Draw strength (and entertainment) from everyone's stories on here. It really helps. I've laughed and cried with some of these stories. Only women going through what you're going through can truly understand the many frustrations. This is into my fifth week on bedrest and it's really not that bad. The time has gone by pretty quickly. I may not say that the bigger and more uncomfortable I get, but at least I'm not on my feet 12hrs a day working like I was before they yanked my freedom away  ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies. I had 2 weeks of bed rest after having my cerclage put in and I was getting totally cabin feverish. Now knowing I only have to do that same amount of time - 7 times... I'm trying really hard not to start counting the days. My husband is headed to the airport to pick my mother up. She's offered to spend the next 6 weeks living with me. That will be interesting :)

Do you ladied fret over every discharge you feel or baby kick that's too far low? That's what has me freaking out lately.
Title: Re: Monday Roll Call for February 28
Post by: elypineda on March 06, 2011 at 05:15 PM
flowerchica - Hang in there, try and keep yourself as busy as possible.  I know it's hard to digest when you think of the weeks, but time will pass, and this is only temporary.  I've been on bedrest for 13 weeks and 8 of those weeks (2 months) were at the hospital - probably the most difficult thing iv'e had to endure.  It felt like time would never pass, but it has.  I still have about 2 or 3 weeks more on bedrest.
As far as the baby kicking too far down - I've felt that since i was about 22 weeks and it too freaked me out  :-\.  What I do when that happens is that I put a pillow under my butt, and after a while, the baby accomidates himself higher up.  I don't know if it's mental, but it works for me.  I remember mentioning it to my doc. when he first started kicking so low and he told me not to dwell on what I have no control over.  Where the baby kicks is definitely something we have no control over, so try not to freak yourself out when it happens.
Sending you and all the mommies on bedrest lots of strength and patience your way.
Elizabeth

Thanks so much for the perspective. The kicks are definitely disconcerting. I guess it's because I have no idea what's considered "normal". My placenta is low and she's head down - so I feel her a lot. The only thing keeping me from panicking - was that she feels no different than when my cervix was 3.3 cm. Her low kicks felt  just the same.

Needless to say - I've bought about 30 balls of yarn and I'm about to go on a crocheting spree! That should help the time pass some.
