Hi everyone - its been a busy past two weeks for someone on bedrest!  Full of appointments: another 24 hour holter monitor to monitor my heart, and another echocardiogram to make sure there hasn't been any more changes in heart size/function.  Plus my biweekly OB/midwives and more bloodwork/urine tests than should be allowed :-).
I was officially put on full bedrest due to blood pressure, and officially diagnosed with pre-eclampsia.  We're still mild at this point, and in fact, my last 24 hr urine protein came back lower (from 400 originally to 266 with this last one), which my midwives are very pleased with.  However, at my last appointment, my urine came back with sugar in it - even though I've passed two 1 hour GD tests. So I get to do MORE testing, but since the glucose drink makes me vomit, they are doing  a fasting test and a two hour post breakfast test.  Pretty nervous, as I'm not sure I can really handle any more emotionally, so we're really hoping this is a fluke.  I mean, there wasn't sugar in my urine 4 days before, and I have no other symptoms!!!  Of course, worrying about this doesn't help my BP - bedrest is such a catch 22 to me!!!  It is supposed to keep my BP low, but when I don't work, I have nothing to keep me occupied except to worry, which raises my BP.
But I'm 32 weeks now, and at the last biophysical profile the Ewok was upto 4.8lbs (which can be off of course, but even if we're lower by a lb, then we're still doin' ok!), and my amniotic fluid was still normal.  Another NST today, then on Thursday we FINALLY get to meet the high risk OBs at Dartmouth Hitchcock who will be delivering the Ewok.  Its a LONG trip, 2.5 hours, so we have millions of questions!!!
I hope everyone else is doing well - it will be close to  80 up here today, so I'm bedresting myself on a blanket in the backyard later on... vitamin D is good for the soul!!

Hello everyone! Looking forward to a beautiful week, hoping to get some rays too (as khughes suggested).  ;D
I'll be 28 weeks Thursday with my twins, still on procardia and cervix is still holding stable. I have an appointment Friday with my regular OB where they'll do another fetal fibrinectin to "rule out" delivery for another two weeks. GD screen last week was negative, so I'm enjoying my food as long as I can (diet to soon ensue after delivery!). Lots of sporadic, tightening contractions, but my little ones are giving me a beating from the inside so I'm sure that, coupled with their rate of growth is the cause of it.

My husband goes out of town this week for his first week away since I've been on bedrest. I don't know if I'm glad or sad! We'll see how I manage by the end of the week. I'm having to pack my 5yr old up to stay at her grandparents house so I don't have to take her on her  2.5hr drive a day to & from school.  :-\ I'll miss her like crazy.

I'm already measuring past 40 weeks now and my husband told me two nights ago he's more worried about me going 'til 38 weeks than he is having two premies!!! LOL.  ;) I will cross my legs and hold them in as long as I can!
Take care everyone, hope you all have a great week!

Hey Everyone!

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and have been on bedrest since 26 weeks.  Last weeks Ultrasound showed an improvement of 2.4cm to 2.5cm and no funneling.  So, we are pleased with the improvement!  Have appointment this Thursday for repeat fFN.  Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello Ladies...sorry I've been MIA, but we're still cookin!  I've been on bed rest since 14wks and have made to 32 weeks this past Saturday.  I'm on bed rest because I had a cerclage placed at 14wks.  Everything has been going great, on Friday had a bout of some painful braxton hicks, but that passed and I haven't had anymore.  We had our baby shower on April 2nd, and received everything we needed to get us started and keep us going for at least the first 6 months.  Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi everyone,
I am still cookin :) I am 28 weeks today so we are really excited! I have another Cervical length test on Friday.  We did our Cervical length and FFN on Friday (4/8) and the FFN was negative thank god and my cervical length was still around 1.7-1.9 so we are holding steady.... :)

still cooking here. 28 w 1 d

had a scare last night. i started spotting pink which turned to a scant amount of bright red. so i went to L&D where they hooked me up to the montiors. i was having mild contractions but nothing painful so i was given a terb shot and loads of fluid. doctor thinks i may have an irritable uterus & mild urinary infection. so i need to retest for that at my follow up. i also had an u/s done to make sure my cerclage was still in place. everything looked good. no signs of funneling or dilating, cervix is measuring at 3.0 & our little one is weighing in at 3.0 lbs :) oh boy those late night scares really do a number. while im happy that things are under control im even more worried about everything now.

OH YA! back at 19-20 weeks i had my fetal anatomy scan. my doctor said it looks like were having a boy but never showed me weiner pictures. so this time around i asked the tech to take a look and she said it looks like were having a girl! she showed me the pictures and it looked like a hamburger! those 3 lines! so i have a follow up appt w my doc tomorrow and im definitely asking her to double check lol boy or girl i just want the little one to be healthy and so far so good. now if only my uterus would cooperate.

I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow and have an ultrasound. My first since 25 weeks when they discovered shortened cervix. I think I mentioned this in last week's check in but can't remember. My bed rest got lifted for about 4 or 5 days, then I got put back on because of high blood pressure. Not to the preeclampsia stage, just hypertension. I think my blood pressure is usually about 130-140/80-90 (norm is 120/80).

I'm still having major pains in my pelvis because the baby dropped about a week and a half ago. Geez, is it painful!!! Anyone else having this? It's just awful! Anyway, hoping this baby comes like THIS week! I can't take it anymore! I got pretty down last week after being put back on bed rest, but I started feeling better over the weekend. I probably shouldn't have but I left the house to get my nails and toes done. I figured it would be the last time before the baby came and who knows when I'd get to do it again! I will keep all posted re: ultrasound tomorrow!

Hi mamas :) I have had a crazy busy week. 2 stays in the hospital. Then our hospital rental home flooded due to a faulty washing machine hose. So we had to move in a matter of hours so they could get the fans and water clean up people in there. We are settled in another home now that the hospital owns but boy was that a nightmare! GOOD NEWS is...  Tomorrow night we are scheduled to meet our new little girl! I opted for a c-section rather than an induced vbac. Dr says he isn't going to let me go another day so... Let's do it! :) I am nervous but looking forward to holding her and being done with this chapter in our lives. All my kids and hubby will be here tonight and I can't wait to see them. I think I will be "HOME HOME" by next weekend which is cause for celebration in itsself! I haven't been there since February. :)

There IS a light at the end of this bedrest tunnel ladies- I think I felt every emotion possible during this journey, but it will all be worth it once I get to snuggle and nurse our new little one. Hang in there mamas- you can do it! One day at a time! :)

Hiya Mommas!

I'm 26 weeks 4 days and starting my 6th week of bed rest. My cervical length was 9 mm last Tuesday. I hope when I go back in tomorrow things are more stable so I can come home again. If they admit me, it's ok. I'll do whatever I can for this little princess. I see both my OB and the high risk doc this week.

Congrats to those mommas that have stayed cookin to full term! My goal right now is 28 weeks...and then 30 weeks...and then, you get it! Everyday is another blessing :)

Hope everyone has a happy week full of happy thoughts!

Hi all.

I'm still cooking - 28 weeks today!

So far I feel pretty much the same as I felt last week, but I have noticed I'm feeling a little more pressure down in the pelvic region than I was before.

Since my next cervical check and growth scan is tomorrow, I figure I should mention that.  Also, Thursday night I had some -seriously- painful contractions.  I don't think they were braxton hicks...but I'm not sure.  Are those supposed to hurt?  I had two within an hour and then one more about four hours later...all three of which were about a 7 out of 10 on pain scale.  The 3rd actually woke me up from a deep sleep.

I've had nothing since then thank goodness, except for a few instances of tightness that only lasted a few seconds each.

I'm comfortable, though, and refusing to be panicky or upset or worried.  Logan IS going to come home with us at this point, no matter if he's born today or on his due date.  Just have to keep telling myself that every day from today is GREAT, but not ABSOLUTELY necessary for his survival and good health.

Just gotta stay positive, and gestate as long as I can.  Here's hoping!

Glad you other ladies are doing ok!

Hi ladies,

32 weeks today!  I see my regular ob and high risk ob both on Thursday.  Last week my cervix was 2.8cm, no funneling, cervix still closed.  So, hopefully the same good news this week.

I cheated quite a bit over the weekend on my bed rest.  My sister came in for a surprise visit and I sat outside most of the day yesterday and watched my son play in ou pool.  So, today I haven't gotten out of bed except for a short shower and bathroom.

I can't wait for these next 4 weeks to pass, I'm ready to be off of bed rest!  Also, I feel huge!  I've gained 24lbs which I know isn't bad but most of it is in my belly so it's hard to move around.  I felt like this with my son too but I forgot how uncomfortable it gets.

Good luck with all the dr appts this week, hope everyone is in good spirits.

It's wonderful to hear from all of you!

A big congrats to LoransMommy and Arnee22 on 37 weeks and counting!!! Way to go! So thrilled!  ;D What a long and tough road, but you both did it!

And best of luck to Amythyst8 tomorrow with your c-section! I know you've been dealing with preeclampsia since 26 weeks, and I couldn't be happier seeing you able to give your baby this extra time safely growing in your womb. Be sure your husband and the docs keep a close eye on your blood pressure and blood work even after delivery, because the risk of preeclampsia can remain up to 6 weeks postpartum. Your children need a healthy mama! Saying a prayer and sending positive vibes your way for a safe and speedy delivery and a quick recovery from preeclampsia.  :-* Post a photo when you can...

Hugs to all of you amazing moms!!!

Hello Ladies,

36 weeks tomorrow and really hoping she comes SOON....  I am so terribly uncomfortable, I feel like I am carrying around a 10 lb baby inside me.  Been having a few sharp pains down there, but mostly tightness in my stomach, meaning skin tightness and numbness.  Lots of pressure and heaviness too.  Went to L & D last week b/c I wasn't feeling her move that much, but they checked her and she is fine.  I think that was my 6th panic visit to triage, since I've been pregnant and 3 of them have been in the last month alone lol.  I have an appt Wednesday for my weekly ultrasound and I am HOPING they tell me I am dilated and they need to do my c-section.  Each day gets harder and harder and I still have 3 weeks to go before my scheduled c-section.  My legs, knees, arms, elbows, shoulders are all taking a beating right now with the 50 lbs I have gained, especially trying to climb out of bed to pee every hour at night.  I actually believe I will get more sleep once she is born as a 2 hour sound, comfortable sleep will be far better than the non-existant, uncomfortable sleep I am getting now.

I'm so tired and miserable, I just want my baby in my arms and my body to return to a somewhat normal state.  I can't say I have enjoyed being pregnant at all - not a good experience for a first timer and probably last timer :(....

I get weekly ultrasounds so they said it wasn't necessary for weekly NST's, does anyone know if that's true?  Glad you all are doing well, hang in there 20 something weekers, 30 will be here before you know it!

Good Morning,

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday. Things are going well. Just had a few visitors which always really tuckers me out!

We are at 31 weeks tomorrow! So excited... hoping for 5 more.  We have the weekly US/appt. on Friday. Last week our little one weighed in around 3lbs. We were very excited about this!

My shower invites went out last week, scheduled for May 7th. I am so looking forward to my shower. It will be the most fun I have had since January! So sad :) Does anyone else feel this way??

Glad to hear you are all doing well. It is amazing what us "Mommies to be" can do!

Checkin in late. Sorry ladies, the last weeks has been rough. I've had two kids in the ER and even though my BP is holding my swelling has started big time and the Dr is watching closely. I reached 33 weeks today and only have 6 more weeks to my induction date. I have gained 40 lbs as of todays weigh in and am a little frustrated. I have been very careful and up until being put on bedrest at 23 weeks was doing really well. dr says it may be a lot of fluid but this is my pattern. I go on bedrest with each pregnancy and then the weight comes packin on at high speed. I know I will get it off after Levi comes but it is so discouraging sometimes. I has two NST a week starting last week and theu are all going well. Levi is measuring 4lb 8 oz, YAY! I am at that point mentally where I will be so excited one minute because I am so close and the the next minute want to cry because I still have so far to go. Crazy hormones!!

Just found this thread- I'm starting my 2nd week of bedrest and am at 28 weeks or so. Have short cervix (1cm) and had +fFn test last week. I go in tomorrow for the GTT and my OB will probably do a manual check to make sure I'm still not dilated/soft. Then next week during week 2 of bedrest I go in for u/s to monitor baby's growth and probably get measured again and see the OB. Not sure what he'll say then about how many more weeks of bedrest....
Feeling a bit anxious about getting up and going to the appt tomorrow because then I'm transferring from my house/bedroom to my parents' house so they can take care of me and our toddler for the weekend, to give my husband a break and work around the house.
Hope all have a good week and our babies stay nestled inside!

I saw the perinatologist yesterday and my OB today. It was wonderful to finally have a week of good news. My cervix has stayed stable for a whole week! My cervical length is 8mm...which means the super-duper strict bed rest is doing it's job! I'll be 27 weeks tomorrow and feel pretty confident at this point that we'll make it to our goal of 30 weeks. It's a beautiful rainy day, my birthday, surrounded by family and friends, and full of good news! Not much more I could ask for :)

Well I had my ultrasound yesterday and everything is as perfect as can be. Also, he is measuring big for how far along I am...6 lbs 7 oz. As I said, it was my first ultrasound since 25 weeks when they discovered my shortened cervix (37 weeks now). It was 2.8 then and 2.8 now!! I have been a very good bed rester! As good as all this is, I'm still only a finger tip dilated, just as I was at 35 weeks (or maybe it was 34, I can't remember). We were so worried he'd come early and now I'm worried he'll come late! I can't take much more of this. The pain I've been feeling in my pelvis when I stand up is now also there when I'm laying down too. oh well, at least we made it this far and he's still healthily cooking!

I met this woman while waiting for my ultrasound yesterday. She had her baby 2 weeks ago at just 30 weeks. She told me that all of a sudden the baby's foot came out!! Then she had to have an emergency c-section. Has anyone ever heard of this?!? The baby has been doing well, but the mom has been dealing with all kinds of infections. I think all will be fine though, but I just couldn't believe the baby's foot just came out of her!!

Happy Birthday Bug!

@LoransMommy - I feel your pain, I can't take much more of this either :(.

Had my appt yesterday, told them of all my aches, pains, uncomfortableness, pressure etc....and again they just shrug their shoulders ugh.  She is still Frank Breech which is even more miserable.  I have also developed sleep apnea when I lay on my left side, go figure.  Baby looked good in the ultrasound, she is measuring 5 lbs 12 oz.  Unfortunately, I am only a finger tip dilated, but she did say she felt her butt and tried to push her up to relieve some pressure, but she bounced back down?  I'm confused how she feels her butt if I'm not dilated and my water hasn't broke?  I think I need an anatomy lesson lol.  So I guess LoransMommy, if the doctor can feel my baby's butt then maybe a foot can come out? lol....  My blood pressure is now up to 130 too, it's usually around 100 to 110.  They said it's normal for it to start creeping up at this time?
Title: Re: Roll Call for Monday April 11th
Post by: mckoygirl on April 14, 2011 at 01:21 PM
@ Loransmommy- What you're describing is referred to as a "Footling Breech", where the baby is butt down but her feet are tucked under her butt, instead of "Frank Breech", which is when they are butt down and their feet are by their head (folded in half, so-to-speak). Footling breech are much more dangerous than a Frank breech, simply because a cord can easily slide out (cord prolapse) with the foot because there isn't a good seal between the cervix and the baby. Frank breech usually don't have this problem because the butt seals the opening of the cervix just like a head would. For a foot to have "fallen out" with this woman, her water must have broken... still, the outcome would have been the same- emergency cesarean.
Here is a video clip of a footling breech delivery in Australia if you're interested.... warning- it is graphic.
They don't generally do breech deliveries vaginally here in the United States, although I've seen a few in special cases.

@Lanespoli - I'm so sorry you are so uncomfortable. I feel your pain.  :-\ I also have been the one to tell the mothers to "suck it up" so to speak (usually in much nicer terms), that all those discomforts are unfortunately normal. I must say it's totally different on this side of the fence. Maybe when I go back to work I'll be a little more compassionate.  ;)  What you are describing with your exam being a fingertip and her being able to feel the baby's' butt is true. A fingertip is about a centimeter, maybe a little less give or take who is examining you, and we can actually feel the baby's body part. Now, usually it's difficult to tell if it's breech with just a fingertip's worth of room. Did you have an ultrasound beforehand for her to be able to tell what position the baby is in?  ??? Anyway - you can "Ballot" or "bounce" the baby off of the cervix if it's not very well engaged against it yet (as it will be in labor) because it's floating in water anyway. When you go into labor, "Balloting" won't be something your nurse or doc will be able to do because the baby will be hard pressed against your cervix due to the labor contractions. Does that make sense? It can be normal for your blood pressure to increase slightly, but it also can be dangerous, so watch it closely. If you start to have any blurred vision, seeing spots, headaches, epigastric (or upper abdominal) pain, or sudden increase in swelling (above & beyond normal), you need to call the doctor and tell them. These are all signs your blood pressure maybe getting dangerously high due to the pregnancy.

I hope this helps. :) If I ever give you, (or anyone on this forum), unsolicited, unappreciated advice please tell me. I miss my patients and being a nurse so much. I loved helping pregnant women. I guess I can come across as a know-it-all and that's not my intent. I just want to help.

Hi mommies,
I am officially a mom now :) I gave birth to a little cute baby boy last Wednesday, Apri 6th at 36 weeks and 5 days. He weighs 3.0kg and is 49cm tall. He is a very healthy and strong boy. I'm not kidding but he rolled over in his 6th day. When the nurses came to check on us at home they suggested to start having tommy time with him. As soon as we put him on his tommy he held his head up and in less than 30 seconds he rolled over. The nurses were amazed. Apparently that is what babies start doing after 3 months.

My delivery was a little dramatic. My husband had to go to a business trip to San Francisco last week and we live in Vancouver Canada. I was not alone though, my mom has been staying with us since beginning of March. In the morning of April 6th I woke up at 4:30am to go to the bathroom. 15 minutes after that while I was trying to go back to sleep in bed, my water broke. The first thing I did was to call my husband and let him know that he has to come back ASAP. Next called a friend of mine to take me to the hospital. We got there around 5:45 and were admitted right away. I had an appointment on April 11 to open the cerclage, so the first thing the doctors did was to remove the stitches at around 9:30am. I had no pain and no contractions before that, just some tightenings. Right after the cerclage was removed I started feeling the contractions. I was already 2-3cm dilated. The pains were getting so intense. I asked for laughing gas which was not that much of a help but I didn't want to get epidural that early. On the other hand I didn't want my labor to progress very fast. I wanted daddy to be there when his son is being born. He managed to get the flight at 10:30am from SF to Vancouver and was in the hospital at 2:00pm. I was checked again then and I was 6cm dilated. At that point I asked for epidural. I didn't feel any pain after that and managed to sleep for half an hour before pushing. I was 10cm dilated by 4:30pm. I pushed for almost 2 hours and our little boy Ryan was born at 6:20pm. I don't remember anything about delivering placenta and getting stitches for the tear. I was just amazed by the new bundle of joy :)

He had no serious problems after birth. He was breathing perfectly and stayed with us in our room the whole time we were staying in the hospital. His blood sugar went down a few hours after birth which came back up after I started feeding him. He got jaundice on the 3rd day and had to go under photo-therapy for 2 days which was so hard for us to sit there and watch him there with the eye mask. But at the end everything turned out very well and today is our 4th day at home.

I wish you all the best with bedrest and your deliveries :) Keep them cooking. It worths it at the end.

@kristinenicolle It didn't hurt at all. I just remember there was a little pressure on the perineal area that was uncomfortable but compared to the following contractions that was nothing ;)

Congrats Sara!!!  Damn, I wish my water would break already!

@McKoygirl - Thank you for all the advice, and I personally can say that I love that you are a part of this forum right now and that you have all this wonderful advice and experience to give us!!!  I mean seriously, what is better than having your own bedrest, labor & nurse buddy while we all go through this????  As for me, yes, they do an ultrasound every week before the doctor checks me and lo and behold she is always in the Frank Breech position.  They don't want to turn her b/c they think she is either comfortable in that position or that he butt is just settled in my pelvis.  She's been like this since January.  They already warned me about how she will come out, and that it might take a while for her legs to go down :(.  Her pediatrician will also come right away to check her hips to make sure they aren't dislocated.

Lanespoli- so they won't even try to turn her?!  ???  I would opt for an external version before I'd want a guaranteed cesarean. That's just me though. Most women like the idea of avoiding labor!  ;) However they may be right. Sometimes there's a reason the baby never changes positions, like a short umbilical cord or the shape of the womb, etc. Breech babies (at least their legs) do look funny at first, but she'll normalize in no time. She'll have a pretty, round head though! No cone-headed baby for you.  :D

Yea no, they won't turn her.  I was having a scheduled c-section all along :), and yes, I'm one of those that do not want any part of labor lol.  Damn, just being pregnant has been miserable enough!

Hi all,

I am 32w 5d and yesterday I had my weekly check-up.  It was a GREAT visit!  My cerivx is actually a little longer than before, was 2.8 and now 2.9, no funneling, not dilated at all.  So my strict bed rest has been lifted to a modified bed rest but I can only slowly increase my activity.  Still no heavy lifting but I am glad for what I have!  The baby looks great and is growing like a weed!

My next appt isn't for 10 days when I will be exactly 34 weeks so I'm thrilled!!!!

This morning I went to my neighbors house and let my little guy play over there before his nap time.  My hubby went to work and I just put him down for a nap.  I'm exhausted!  Hopefully I can get some energy back before the baby comes.  I know I'm not sleeping and that's part of the tiredness but wow, I guess this little guy is preparing me for life after he is here and caring for a newborn again.

I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to Monday's roll call and to hear all the progress of another week passed!

Hi mommies!!  Thought I'd drop by to see how everyone is doing!!!  Wow, I see there are a lot of newbies since I registered back in December!  It's really great to see!  This forum helped me SOOOO much during my days in bedrest (2 of the 4 months in the hospital) that I will forever be so grateful!!!   Our little man, Julius, is doing wonderful!!  He's already 22 days and growing at such a fast rate!!  I held his 37 wks and 3 days and he was perfect!!  I know it's so hard to see past one day many times, but ladies, pls. know that the feeling is amazing once you've gone through so much sacrafice, and your little one is in your arms at the end - priceless.

mcoygirl - Congrats on 28 wks!!!  It was so nice to hear you made it to such an important goal - especially with twins!!!!!!  You are measuring so much girl!!  Are you sure you're 28 wks!!!

As always ladies, lots of strength and patience to all the mommies in the forum!!
