Title: 14weeks and contracting
Post by: Allypaige on October 23, 2012 at 05:03 PM
Hi all I'm new here and this is my first time posting .. So here's my story

I am a mother of a 6yr old daughter I started PTL with her at 21 weeks with contractions that never changed my fox past a fingertip, I was put on hospital bedrest from that point until I was 33weeks when I had PPROM and delivered via c-section. She spent 2 1/2 weeks in the nicu and is now thriving greatly!!

I am now finally pregnant with number 2 and I just turned 14 weeks on Sunday. I have been contracting since I was 13 weeks and 2 days. I called and saw my ob the next day and she said pelvic rest and drink plenty of fluids. She also did a ultrasound to check my cervix but didnt say If it was good or bad I'm assuming it was ok considering she didn't say anything about it.I have followed her advice and here i am 14 weeks and 2 days and contractions have been a lot more noticeable and more painful today; ive had a headache since yesterday contracting more than lately and  my back pain has been worse today. Any advice since my ob said there wasn't anything to do? Should I call her anyways? I'm so lost as to what I should do. Thanks in advance

Hi there!
How are you feeling today? Are your contractions getting closer together? Are you having more than 4 an hour? Still having back pain? Those are all things to report to your OB again. It could be an infection causing the contractions.

Did your OB do a transvaginal ultrasound or abdominal?  It's very important to keep an eye on your cervix, since it is an excellent indicator for your risk of preterm birth. You would be a good candidate for progesterone supplementation with having a prior preterm delivery. Ask your doctor about the 17P shots, or perhaps the progesterone gel.

And if you feel like your OB isn't taking your concerns seriously enough, you can always go to Labor and Delivery where they can check you for infection and hook you up to a monitor to see how close your contractions are (even when you're not feeling them). You know your body best, so if something isn't right, please don't hesitate to call your OB or go to L&D.

Please keep me posted!

I'm feeling some better today my contractions are irregular and the back pain has still persisted and is actually worse... Thry did check my cervix thru transvaginal ultrasound and I will be taking the makenna shots at 16 weeks ... I called my ob this morning and she said all I can do is take a warm bath and lay on a heating pad for 10 mins on low setting for my back. She and the l&d at my hospital both said there isn't anything they can do this early and that my uterus is to small to be registered on the monitors :((( I guess it's a waiting game until I'm 20 weeks and I'm putting myself on bed rest and pelvic rest since I've noticed I contract a lot more after intercourse :( thanks for the reply ill definatly be updating frequently :))

That's great to hear that you will be getting the progesterone shots and that they are keeping a close eye on your cervix length. With the back pain and contractions, I wonder if you have a urinary tract infection? Could that be possible?

It sounds like a good plan to be safe and stick with bedrest and pelvic rest for now. Hopefully they can do another ultrasound in a few weeks to see if there has been any change in your cervix length since your last visit.

I'm glad you found our group! Keep us posted!
