: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps December 23, 2016 at 04:46 PM
I am new here; based in London.
I am really worried and need some positive vibes and success stories.

I have lost my gorgeous boy in a previous pregnancy in 2014 - he was born prematurely at 24 weeks but as I dilated without symptoms and there was nothing that could be done. My little fighter fought for 44 hours and then became an angel.

After 18 months we gathered the courage to get pregnant again. Now I am now 26+ weeks and in my last appointment I was diagnosed with shortening cervix measuring 19mm. I have advised bed rest and put on progesterone pessaries. I am being strict with bedrest and getting up for loo breaks and quick shower.

Please can I have some success stories and encouragement? I cannot have a cerclage as it is beyond 24 weeks.

Looking forward for this forum to be my strength!

Hi! Sorry that this message will be quick, we have family over... But I wanted you to know that can do this!!
I delivered my baby boy after 40 weeks and at 24 weeks my cervix measured 15mm. It was also discovered at 24 weeks, so too late for a cerlage. I was so terrified that without the cerlage I wouldn't be able to keep him in but with strict bed rest I made it!!
If you scroll further back in this forum I have more deatailed posts about my experience and tips.. My LO is now 9 months old.

Bed rest is so hard but I really do believe it got us to the end. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Big hugs to you and my deepest sympathies for the loss of your little boy.

Hi, welcome to the start and sorry for your loss.

Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. In Dec 2014 we lost our baby boy at 22 weeks. I dialated to 8cm with no symptoms and there was nothing they could do. Because I was under the 24 week viability stage they could not try and save him and he passed after a few minutes. They diagonosed me with having a short cervix and I opted to have a pre pregnancy cerclage May 2015. July 2015 we fell pregnant and by week 14 of my pregnancy I was advised to go on bedrest because my cervix measured 22mm, after 22 weeks of bedrest and progesterone pessaries, I delivered my baby girl March 2016. She is now 9 months old!

Bed rest is a hard journey, but just remember it won't last for ever, take every day you are still on bedrest as a positive, you will naturally find the dertermination to get through it. You will have low days followed by high, use the ladies on here as support! Developing a routine for me was key, it also made the day go quicker.

Keep us all updated! Hope you can try and do something nice for Christmas. I live in Birmingham, UK so only a few hours away!

Dear Natig and Ceecee,
Many thanks for your reply and sharing your stories. Does make me feel quite confident and encouraged.

I haven't yet figured a routine but trying to keep occupied and busy. My husband is home so it is a great help. Each day I make it, I feel better as my little one is cooked a little more. I am positive prayers, hope and love of my dear ones along with the encouragement here in this forum will get me through.

I needed some advise on -
What all am I allowed to do on bed rest? Currently, I get up for one potty, brush break in the morning, loo breaks and then a quick shower break. I am on bed most day and move to our recliner couch in the evening few hours to watch tv. Is this strict enough? I sit up 45-50 degrees for food breaks.

Second one is on constipation. How did you guys manage that? I am not in a bad condition for that but just wanted to make sure I eat right so that there is less pressure to be applied next morning.

Sorry if it is too much information but your advise will help. Thank you so much for all the warmth and please pray for me, I have to make it this time. My next checkup u/s is on 4th when I will be almost 28 weeks.

Thanks you so much!!!

Hi Alps!! Happy Christmas to you.

You'll soon see that there is no such thing as too much of anything around here, so don't be shy about asking any questions!! No such thing as TMI.

Routine is so helpful. Breaking down the day into little digestible pieces makes the day pass by a bit easier.

My doctor was a bit vague when it came to bed rest specifics, so I spent a lot of this site seeing what worked for other ladies. I stayed laying down almost all day - horizontal. I did get up to go to washroom (stay hydrated and don't let your bladder press by being too full) and I sat up a bit to eat. I had a shower one to two times a week for the first stretch and added another one in after thirty weeks (they were fast showers).

I made a little fort in our living room and I lived in the same space for 16 weeks. I slept there, ate there, lived there. My husband left me a jug of water each day and a packed lunch and snacks so I didn't have to get up on my own.

I spent my days reading books, colouring, writing emails. My parents called me everyday for a chat which I really looked forward too. I had friends come over for visits. I watched a lot of Netflix (like all f the seasons of many shows). Every Monday I looked forward to checks no in with my bed rest buddies (Natlg and I were on bed rest at the same time, actually)! I found sharing the experience with other women soooo helpful.

As for constipation, my friend bought me some fibre powder that I could add to my drinks. Lots of water!! I bicycled my legs a bit and did ankle circles. Lots of healthy food. Actually because someone had to bring me all of my meals, I was super aware of everything that I was putting in my mouth, so I ate very well. Lots of fresh foods - pears, peaches, etc.

Until your appointment on the 4th, be extra careful! 28 weeks is a big deal!! Developmentally, it's a huge milestone.

I hope this helps a bit!! Hugs to you.

Just having a big scare... seen some brownish discharge come out and it all seems like how it started last time. Sitting at the hospital to get a scan done... fingers crossed! Please say in a few words of prayer for me!!!!

Been admitted...given steroids to be safe. Since it is bank holidays here, I will have high risk gynae examine me on Wednesday... I so hope all is ok and my baby can make it!!!
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 December 26, 2016 at 10:11 AM
I was given steroids at 24 weeks!! So it is just a preventative thing - and, for me, it was a huge relief. It really helps their lungs.

Being admitted will allow them to keep a close eye on everything. Rest as much as you can.

: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks

Thank ceecee... your words are encouraging and keep me hopeful.
Keeping faith and hoping to get as far as I can!!

: ceecee31 December 26, 2016 at 10:33 AM
Keep us updated!! You are so close to 27 weeks too!!
Each day makes a big difference.

Do you have some distractions for the hospital - books, tv shows or movies.

: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps December 26, 2016 at 10:56 AM
Yes I have Netflix and books! They should be good to keep occupied. It's the tension of what will happen next that is keeping me really anxious!! I really really hope all goes well.
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 December 26, 2016 at 05:21 PM
Oh, the tension and what ifs is the worst part. The bed rest itself was tough, but it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have that overwhelming terror that's just always there. The first few weeks of bed rest are definitely the worst but you are already at 26 weeks which is really awesome.

I found that celebrating the little things really helped. Each new day, each new week is an accomplishment.

Distraction was so necessary.

Hi Alps,

We have a similar story delivered at 24 weeks in April 2016 and my little fighter survive 8 days. My cervix was short and too late for a cerclage.  Now I am 25 weeks with a preventive cerclage at 13 weeks and at 17 weeks cervix short to 8mm with funneling on modified bedrest with CL increased to 1.3cm last week.  Rest easy and stay firm in your faith during your journey.

: Alps December 27, 2016 at 02:00 AM
Thanks Ceecee!!! Indeed, I am counting each day and relying on my faith. Will get to know more details when the Preterm expert will assess me. Hubby is around so it's not looking so difficult and we have the laptop and books and this amazing forum.

Grace, so sorry to hear your story and I know that word does not help. I can truly feel your pain. I wish you all the luck and we should make it this time. God cannot be so harsh! He will carry us!

I am glad to be here. All you ladies make me hopeful and better. Thank you!

Let us know what the preterm expert says, has the brownish discharge stoped? I'm glad they have admitted you though at least they can keep there eyes on you now and you will be closely monitored.

Sorry to hear about your loss Grace, brilliant news your length has increased. Are you on strict or modified bedrest?

Experts will scan's been tough in the hospital lying here without any assessment. Hopefully something will be decided today. Brown discharge - touch wood - has stopped. I am concerned about what the scan will show. 27 weeks today! Ladies please pray for me, I need your kind words and prayers so much...more after the scan.

Being positive!!
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps December 29, 2016 at 08:22 AM
Hello ladies,
Cervical scan done. Looks like mine is a dynamic cervix with length varying from 20mm to 14mm. I have some mixed growth in my urine so they need to repeat the culture. They also did the growth scan and my sunny boy seems to be ok.

They have asked me to stay in tonight and do a fibronectin test tomorrow. I really hope that is negative.

Please keep me in your prayers ladies... I need them!
Praying for a negative ffn tomorrow.

Take care and send me positive vibes please.

Congratulation on 27 weeks!!! Next goal 28 weeks!!
When I saw my doctor at 27 weeks the nurse told me at 27 weeks babies have developed the ability to suck and it meant that they are able to have milk. That's a pretty big development. I don't know why, but that made me feel better.

I know how hard the wait is. I had to wait a little over a week first my first high risk scan after finding out my cervix was 15mm. It was pure agony because you're just left with 'what ifs'.

Every scan was such a strange mix of so many emotions. Happy to see the baby, scared to find out if there was something wrong, anxious about my measurements, etc. My numbers went up and down over the weeks too, so I never knew what to expect.

I'm happy that the discharge has stopped - that's great news! And you've gotten this far, so as awful as it is, take a moment to celebrate. You got this LO to 27 weeks!! On the day that I'd reach a new week, I'd look up the baby's development on one of those baby sites that tell you what they learn to do week-by-week. It was a little ritual that I had and I'd read it to my husband and we'd cheer. It really helped me appreciate how great it was to get through each day.

I'm thinking of you today and sending prayers!! Let us know how it goes. xo

: ceecee31 December 29, 2016 at 08:42 AM
You posted while I was typing my last reply!! That's sounds like a great appointment.
My cervix went up and down - as did quite a few other ladies on this dynamic isn't a bad diagnosis, I think!!

The important thing is that your little guy is doing well!!

I never had an fFN test, though not sure why. But, I've seen other ladies on this site who've had positive ones and stilll gone on to keep their babies cookin'.

So as scary as it all is, you are doing really well.  xo

: Karen December 30, 2016 at 07:36 AM
Hi Alps! Hope all is well. Its good to know your discharge is gone. Dont be alarm that now you are using progesterone supp there will be discharge too....

When i was in hospital bedrest, i asked about ffn test but i was told that since i am using progesterone suppositories that it would alter the result to positive. So i was never given one.

You are almost to 28 weeks then after that your weeks will fly by! Stay strong.
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps December 30, 2016 at 11:47 AM
I did have a positive test for ffn and been  asked to stay in hospital. Very nervous and freaked out... don't know how to gather myself! Please send me some strength and positive vibes... very broken at the moment.
Has anyone had a positive ffn and gone a longer way?
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 December 30, 2016 at 12:58 PM
I never had an fFN test at who knows what it would have said. My doctor just didn't think they were really that helpful.

I have definitely seen women post about having positive fFN tests and going the distance. But you are right where you need to be and will have great care. Try not to think too far ahead, just one day at a time. I know it's ridiculous to say such a thing because it's not easy, but just focus on the right now as much as you can. Right now your little guy is safe and sound and growing stronger each day. You've already got him to 27 weeks!!

Try to keep the pressure off your keep horizontal if you can, like 98% of the day. Lots of water, keep hydrated. Meditation maybe - if you try that sort of thing.

It's just never easy but it does, slowly, get easier to cope...slightly. I'm sending you all of my strength.
There was a woman in here a little while ago who had a cervix measurement of like in there was pretty much nothing there; they couldn't even get a measurement. And she made it so far (can't recall the exact week she gave birth but it was seriously incredible how far she made it with pretty much no cervix left at all).

When I was first sent home, at 24 weeks, after my first steroid shot, I remember just desperately hoping to hold on 24 more hours so my little guy could get the second shot. I knew that it was his best chance to get both and I seriously wasn't sure we'd get there.

We came home and I was just empty and hopeless. My husband, trying to cheer me up, put on this super sweet song by a Canadian folk singer (I'm Canadian, btw) called Waiting for Baby (by Julie Doiron). And I lost it...ugly sobbing and begged him to turn it off. He felt awful. I seriously just couldn't handle it. I was truly and utterly broken too. And yet, we made it!!

And, if your little guy comes soon, then know that you've got him so far. He is so much much stronger than he would be a couple of weeks ago.

Sending strength and prayers from across the pond. xo

Thanks a lot Ceecee... your words mean a lot. Since you have been through the journey, I know you know the pain and anxiety. Trying to stay calm and hoping my little man stays in.... God can't fail me twice!

I am trying meditations and prayers... wishing they work like never before.

Thank you for writing to me... keeps me encouraged and hopeful. Please keep me in your prayers. More when I gather myself a bit... my husband is broken too but trying to stay strong... he is my rock!
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks

Also, does anyone know if progesterone pessaries can cause a false positive ffn test?
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 December 31, 2016 at 10:06 AM
I don't know the answer to this myself but after some internet sleuthing it does seem that most women are told to stop taking their progesterone 24 hours before the test due to a potential false positive. This is just from reading other people's experiences but it seems that it's fairly common.

As I mentioned before, my Dr. didn't even want to do one. He didn't seem to think they were that useful - so take that for what it's worth. I was on progesterone tablets too.

How are you feeling today? Is the plan to keep you in hospital a while longer?
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps December 31, 2016 at 10:17 AM
Yes I think my research says that too.... also I had an internal examination about 24 hours before so not sure if that impacted it but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I have been asked to be kept in hospital atleast until 28 weeks and then they will take a call. I really hope I can keep cooking my little man longer...very worried but just knocking Gods doors and relying on Him to listen.
Hospital may be quiet over the new year weekend so let's see how things go. They have suspected infection in my urine so started me on antibiotics. My GTT has come back high but they think it might be due to steroids. I will be kept on sugar monitoring for a week and then they will decide if it still stays up - another complication!!! With bedrest, diabetes can get worse I hope it stays controlled.

Road seems difficult but I am telling myself and my little man - together we shall make it! Keep me in your prayers please and wish for me to atleast make it to 34 weeks! Thank you all for being there.

Hello lovely, so sorry for your loss and that you're having another frightening time this pregnancy. I just wanted to pop in to say that you're in my thoughts and to give you some words of hope. In my first pregnancy I had contractions, a shortened cervix (1.7cm) and a positive ffn test at 25 weeks. I was too late for a stitch and my doctors didn't suggest progesterone (NHS and this was a few years ago no) so I went on pretty strict home bedrest and he was born safely at 37 weeks. It was so tough and frightening and I know you must be feeling so anxious, especially after your loss, but try to keep your faith and hope. Wonderful things can happen and you'll find so many positive stories if you look back through this site. I've just had my second beautiful bedrest baby born on his due date after a short cervix and stitch at 17 weeks.

Ffn tests are very good at predicting that you won't go into labour but not all that reliable at predicting you will as so many things can affect the result including bleeding, any internal examinations etc. Also steroids will send your blood sugar very high (this happened to me) so don't fret too much yet about diabetes. Are you at a hospital with a good prem clinic and doctors who can chat it all through with you? As you're in the UK too then Bliss and Tommys are two great charities which have lots of advice, information and support.

And you're doing so well to be nearly 28 weeks as that is such an important milestone. Keep strong and let everyone look after you and your lovely little boy.

Take care and please ask anything you like xx

That is such an inspiring story... made my New Year's Eve! Thank you.

I am here at UCLH here in north London and they have good doctors with level 3 NICU. However, I do not want to think about that as I want my little man to go as far as he can.

ffn test can be dicey and I hope it did not mean anything for me. Sugars will be monitored for a week and they will then decide if I have gestational diabetes or not.

For now, I am just counting days to 28 weeks and then take them further. Please do say in a little prayer for me for new year... me and my little one need them badly.

Wish you all a great year, please send me positive vibes and keep me in your thoughts/prayers - I will be highly grateful for them.

Quickly wanted to check how did you guys manage constipation and preventing pressure down there? Also, how often is ok to visit loo? I know keeping hydrated is important but how often is a loo trip allowed? It may be a fine balance but need your guidance here please.
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: BlossominSpring December 31, 2016 at 04:21 PM
UCH are great - that's where I was transferred in my first pregnancy! They have some brilliant consultants so you're in safe hands. Take care and wishing you a peaceful New Year's Eve x

Ps Don't fret too much about loo breaks - just drinks lots, eat plenty of fruit/veg and go whenever you need to. Prune juice or a few pieces of black liqourice will help stop any constipation.
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 December 31, 2016 at 09:06 PM
Happy New Year, Alps!! You've got yourself a 2017 baby!!

There's no limit on loo breaks because you shouldn't try and hold the urine. It'll press down on everything, so go when you have to.

Water will help with constipation. I also added a spoonful of fibre powder stuff to drinks once a day which seemed to help. I can't stomach prunes but it does work. Pear juice does the same, which I drank. Apple juice too. And an overall healthy diet seemed to help (though you still need some treats on bed rest since you can't do anything else).
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps January 01, 2017 at 03:47 AM
Thanks so much both of you... really helps. I will try out the options you have given. As of now they have also prescribed me Movicol as the constipation remedy but I did not want to continue it that long.

Hydration is the key and I will keep to it.

And yes, with all your support and the prayers of loved ones, I am into 2017! 4 more days to hit 28 weeks - my next milestone. I pray that Lord carries me through this journey so that I can carry my little one.

Keeping positive and hoping for my baby cooking longer and longer!
Happy 2017!

Another question - what is the best lying down position? Flat on back or sideways?
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps January 01, 2017 at 06:56 AM
And do I keep my legs raised?
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 January 01, 2017 at 08:33 AM
I never kept my legs raised but some women do...maybe a pillow? I think side or back is fine. I switched it up during the day. Some wome get light headed when they lay on their back while they are further along in their pregnancy. I never had that problem, so I did lay on my back a fair bit.

Eating pears really helped with constipation. Just have some high fibre fruit each day (prune juice if you can stomach it).
You are so close to 28 weeks!!! Just a few days away. It is a really huge milestone.

Thank you... keeping all advice and keeping calm. 3 more days before I hit 28 weeks. Been here in the hospital now for a week. Waiting to hit Thursday now... please keep me in your prayers.

Keeping positive and praying hard!!
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 January 02, 2017 at 08:05 AM
You are days away from 28 weeks!! Just focus on that...not 40 weeks. It's much easier to break things down into little manageable periods and just focus on one little day at a time.

Think of it this way, you've already made it through an entire week - that's amazing!!! xo
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps January 05, 2017 at 04:13 AM
Phew!! 28 weeks it is:) so so so thankful to the Lord and all the prayers....!!!

My sugar is being monitored and it seems to be fluctuating... low after lunch but high after dinner...still to monitor. Antibiotics are being given too. Today they will do another cervical assessment to see if the membranes are bulging and then decide what to do next.

Please keep praying for me and keep sending positive vibes! My baby should keep cooking more....!
Thank you all for being there.

: Alps January 06, 2017 at 06:48 AM
Ok so some light in the tunnel... I was discharged yesterday and asked to rest at home. TVS showed the same as last week in cervical length, no deterioration. Thank God!!

Happy to be home but will continue being very strict with bedrest.
My sugars are high so they might start me on medication. Have to visit the hospital on Tuesday now.

The prayers and good wishes are working. When I left home for hospital this time I was very scared as the past experience kept flashing in front of my eyes and I was scared to death. Thankful that my little one is good and I have hope to carry him further and let him cook more.

Please keep me in your prayers and send me positive vibes - I need them more now.
Bedrest does not bother me anymore - I have got things to watch, do write little memoirs and have my lovely husband by my side.

Keeping faith and celebrating each day my little boy is in!
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 January 06, 2017 at 07:35 AM
Hurrah, great news!!! Just stay horizontal as much as possible, pressure off of your cervix. You've hit the first big milestone. Your little guy is so much stronger than he would have been a few weeks ago.

I made myself a little bed rest corner!! Everything within reach, including a jug of water and a packed lunch with snacks. You'll be much more comfy at home.

: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps January 09, 2017 at 05:11 AM
Hello ladies, a quick question - were you advised to do pelvic floor exercises while on bedrest? Also, did anything change in your routine after 28 weeks?

Did anyone of you get GD? Any recommendations for diet? My after food sugars are under control but fasting ones are high.

Please keep me in your prayers, I need them more.
Being positive and getting used to my bedrest routine now.

Thank you all for being there.
: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: ceecee31 January 09, 2017 at 12:08 PM
Hello Alps!!

Hmm, I was never advised to do pelvic floor exercises. I did ankle twirls while laying down to keep blood flowing though. Have you been advised to?!

After 28 weeks I did feel a bit better, knowing that our chances were so much better. I think I was still pretty strict until 30 weeks. And then I only eased things up a bit - added in an extra shower, sat up a bit longer when eating, and I think my stress level dropped a bit. Then 32 weeks was amazing!! 32 weeks is huge. When it hit 32 weeks my nurses were over the moon when I went in for my transvaginal that week. They explained that after 32 weeks, you are really looking at growers (most development is done and babies just need to get bigger and maybe some help with their lungs).

So really, I'd say try to keep things moderately strict until 32 weeks. I was told at 34 weeks I would be discharged from hugh risk because at that they weren't concerned.  Of course at that appointment they found my BP had rocketed up and I started on BP medicine and ended up with gestational hypertension. So I was stuck in bed rest until my LO came.

I've had friends with GD though - try to eat lots of veggies and cut down on carbs. Protein is good too. Overall on bed rest I ate very well. Of course, I wasn't able to get up and stuff my face with unhealthy food.

But seriously, you are doing so well!! A few more days and you'll be 29 weeks and then onto the 3-0!!!
30 weeks seems so much older than 28 weeks to me. But mind you each day helps. Your baby is stronger today than tomorrow. xo

: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps January 10, 2017 at 02:12 PM
Thanks a lot Ceecee. So much helpful and encouraging. I saw the doctors today for follow up - no scan though but started on sugar medication. I will have to monitor sugar for another 2 weeks and then they will see how it goes.

They have said my baby will need biweekly growth scans now and next is booked for 23rd Jan. I have been discharged from the preterm birth clinic now and the diabetes team will look after my case now as that is the current concern.

I am not sure but I guess they are not planning to do any more TVS now. I will have to check that why is it so.

Yes, my baby is stronger each day and it is a blessing. I am eyeing into the 30 weeks now.
Thank you for all your guidance and keep sending me words of encouragement.

I wanted to ask quickly about the appointments - did you have them weekly and how long did they last? Mine is a busy hospital and the round trip with travel takes about 4-5 hours. Not that I have a choice but does it not exert pressure on the cervix sitting down for so long with a bit of walking in the hospital? Any advice for hospital trips?

I will soon write more... counting my blessings and taking a deep breathe!
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers!

Hi Alps!! Another week done and 30 is just around the corner!!

I've seen that many women stop having transvaginals around 28 weeks, so it doesn't seem unusual. I had my last TV at 32 weeks, I believe and then at that point they were less concerned with my cervix measurement. I kept having weekly ultrasounds though because of my blood pressure. It was such a frustration at the time...just overcoming the short cervix and then being hit with a new issue was just so emotionally exhausting.

My appointments for the short cervix were every two weeks. Ultrasound to check on the baby, tv ultrasound to confirm the cervix measurement and then seeing my doctor. I was at the hospital maybe one and a half to two hours? For the BP though it was weekly apt because they wanted to check the baby's growth, blood flow fro, cord, overwell wellbeing. Then meeting with the doctor, then off to the lab for blood work and a urine test. They were long apts and I was there for like 3-4 hours. It also depended on how long the wait was in the lab. One day we were there easily 5 hours.

I must confess though, I live right downtown in a relatively big city, so I'm only a 10-15 minute drive from my hospital (and a 15-20 min drive from another hospital, plus our local children's hospital), so travelling was nothing at all. I would worry about the extra cervix pressure but figured if I was extra good the rest of the time, it'd balance out. I walked to my apts and around the hospital but I know some women used a wheelchair to avoid too much walking at the hospital.

Hope you are having a decent week!!

Thank you Ceecee. Next I have to go to the hospital is on 23rd so it's not too bad. I guess with two weeks of rest some walking should be ok. I am strict with myself at home and just get up for loo breaks.

However, there is another concern. I have recurring mixed growth in my urine and the doctors have asked me to be on prophylactic antibiotics for rest of the pregnancy. I just worry it will not impact my baby in any way to be on antibiotics for so long. I will get my husband to check this with the doctor when he goes to collect the prescription on Tuesday.

Each day counts I know and I try to keep myself up.
I hope all is ok with others - good positive thoughts for all and keep me in your prayers.

Thank you for being there!

Too much of prison break... I dream about bullets and saving myself!!! I guess I should mAke it one episode per day!

Well, another thing to worry - I have continuous mixed growth in my urine and I will be put on prophylactic antibiotics starting Tuesday. Has anyone if you faced that? I am worried it will not impact the baby in any way.

Send me positive vibes please... counting days to 30 weeks! Keeping positive and praying that my little bub keeps cooking more and more.

Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday, Alps!! ????
I think bed rest dreams are generally nuts - must be all of the inactivity or something. lol

Hmm, I'm not sure about the mixed growth in your urine but I wouldn't worry too much about the antibiotics. I had awful heartburn during my pregnancy so I was I on meds for it and then later meds for my blood pressure and I did worry about everything I was putting into my body. But the doctors weigh risk vs benefits of everything very carefully. There's just so many things to worry about, I know. But try not to add one more thing to the list.

30 weeks today and I am so grateful! Looking onto 34 weeks now! GDM seems to be progressing, antibiotics started. Waiting for the growth scan on Monday. Please keep me in your thoughts - hope all goes well.

Wishing we all make it to bring these little wonders into the world happy and healthy!!!

Praying and keeping faith!
God bless!

31 weeks it is! Thank God!! Each day is a blessing. Next milestone awaited is 32 weeks.

I needed some advise on sleep positions. Please can you help?
Also do you remember the weight of your babies st this stage? I am told my baby is on the smaller side as we are both not great builds but growing consistently. My little bub weighed 1.4 kg in his last scan at 30+4 - is that less? Please advise.

Counting my blessings and keeping faith! Wishing well for all of us!! Do keep me in your prayers.

This is great news!! And 32 weeks is huge!!! Really huge. My nurses told me this means all the big development is done at 32 weeks ands it's all about packing on the weight and the lungs continuing to mature.

I can't recall how big my baby was at thus stage..maybe 3 pounds or so? He was only 6lbs 10 ounces when he was born full term, so he wasn't too big to begin with...he caught up right away though. I was a little smaller when I was born so I think the women in my family just have small babies.

As for sleep...ugh. I mostly tossed and turned. Side to side with a pillow between my knees..or sort of leaning to the side with my top leg curled up and over to sort of lean on (not sure if that makes sense). It's just mostly crappy sleeping the last bit.

Thanks a lot Ceecee. That is what I try doing, pillow between the legs and one under my bump but it is tossing and turning during the night.

Did you have any other pains at this stage at all? Anything to be careful about at this stage? I am keeping hydrated and eat small portions due to GDM.

Any advise will help. Thank you!
Keep me in your thoughts.

I was careful but definitely started to relax a bit. I began having another two showers at 32 weeks and sat up a bit longer while eating. At 34 weeks I was to be discharged from high risk as they weren't worried about my cervix any longer but at that time I developed gestational hypertension so they kept me on.

I did have some Symphysis pubis dysfunction pain (which is pretty harmless but uncomfortable).

You've come so far and are doing so well, not much longer now!! You've got this.

Thank you Ceecee, you have been such great friend. Thank you for being there. I had a general appointment today where my bp was raised. Can you tell me the symptoms you developed? Did they class it as pre eclampsia? I have been asked to monitor and my growth scan is following Monday.

My hospital days are a bit tiring and I have some pubic muscle pain which I hope will ease with rest. Did you do anything specific to ease the pain?

I hope I can make it as further as possible. I have been asked to start on insulin at night to control my fasting sugars. I so hope I keep my little bub safe. He needs to cook more.

Please say in a prayer for me! Am keeping my faith and listening to the beautiful hymn - In His Time!

Oh Alps, I was exactly where you were this time last year, so any support that I can offer is the least I can do. My son was due March 6th and born on March 9th - so I think you're actually quite close to where I was!!

As for the SPD pain, there's not much to be done - that I found at least, other than keeping off my feet (which I was doing anyway). It honestly felt so ridiculous because it was one thing after another with me (or so it seemed).

The only thing I didn't have was GD,  up my blood pressure just slowly crept up around 32 weeks. I ended up on medication, which helped, and had to take my BP at home twice a day and record it down. If it was above a certain number we had to call labour and delivery, but thankfully it never came to that.

I did have to have weekly ultrasounds and had blood and urine tests weekly as well (checking for protein in my urine). They also look for feeling dizzy, seeing white spots, sensitivity to light, headaches, etc. I thankfully, never had any issues with that but I was officially diagnosed with preeclampsia around 34-36 weeks but LO stayed in until 40 weeks as everything was coming back okay. They were really prepared to get him out at any time if things got worse. We had to bring our packed bags to every appointment after 34 weeks in case they decided to induce.

You are so close now!!!! Even in your LO came now, he'd be in a good place because of all you've done. Be proud!! And I really think you've got longer to go!

Hey Ceecee,
Indeed seems like one thing after another. But of course your story encourages me and has indeed got me this far. Thank you so much. This forum is indeed a blessing for people on journey like ours.

I am 32 weeks today and feel so relieved. Here onwards it will be a closer watch as the docs say. My bp is staying at an average of about 130/91 so doctor says it's ok for now. I have another scan scheduled for Monday and I hope my little bub is growing ok. He is on the smaller side but then we as parents aren't great builds either. But doctors want consistent growth and healthy placenta - fingers crossed it is so in the following scans.

Each day counts and it is each day at a time. Lord has carried us this far and I hope he does further.
Keep me in your thoughts and say in a little word for me and my little boy.

You've done it, hit the BIG 32 week milestone!!! While you can't totally relax, I can say that at this point things aren't nearly as dire as before. I began to relax a bit more after 32 weeks.

My little one was small too - only 6lbs 10oz!!

High BP and been diagnosed with preeclampsia now!!!! Gosh, one thing after another and I feel so down. Been to hospital on Monday and today. Baby's scan is ok and he seems to be growing ok. Started on bp meds today.

I so so hope my bub keeps well and safe until as much possible. Have to go for a quick bp check again on Thursday!

I hope God carrys us further. Please pray for us!
Keeping my faith and praying . Some positive vibes will help please.

Hang it there, Alps!! I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and they kept telling us to expect an induction...but then things would look okay and they'd push us back a week. And my little one came fulll term.

I can't recall what meds I was on but they did help. And much like with the cervical issues keep resting to keep your BP down. I found trying to meditate helped.

Are you able to monitor your BP at home? I bought a small machine and we checked it twice a day. If it's high, relax wait a few minutes and then try again. Mine would often go down.

I'm thinking of you!!

: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks
: Alps February 09, 2017 at 12:41 PM
Thanks a lot Ceecee. 33 weeks today! Went in for a bp check after starting medications and was ok. We do monitor it at home; strangely at home it's always been ok. I have white coat syndrome and that raises my bp in hospitals. Hence the medication has been started. Next checkup is Monday with diabetes team.

Did you get protein in your urine? Mine is clean, they say it's mild preeclampsia though.

I just hope my bub keeps I and grows ok. Thank you so much for being there. I do meditate each evening so I guess that helps.

Positive thoughts and longer cooking for all of us!

Another week down - you're really in a good place. And you're almost at 34 weeks - at that point they aren't even that concerned with cervical length and even if your little one were to come now, he'd be okay.

My BP also tended to be higher at the hospital, which was no surprise given that we're already so stressed after being on bed rest. I also never had an any protein in my urine and had no other symptoms other than the high readings. So they decided to wait unitl over forty weeks...and I was induced a few days after hitting forty weeks. I did have mild preeclampsia. My BP also shot up after giving birth and I stayed on meds for a few weeks postpartum but then it went right back down to normal.

Hang in there, you've got this!

34 weeks... phew!! Thanks God and all the prayers that have got us this far. Next scan is scheduled for Monday and then seeing the obstetrician on Tuesday. Still on bed rest.

Ceecee what changes did you make at 34 weeks? Am I ok to move a little in the house or still keep as strict? All advise will be helpful.
When did you get stuff ready and did you buy baby's stuff as well?

Praying and keeping faith to make it to as many more days! Each day counts.
Thank you for being there.

You did it!! 34 weeks is incredible. Obviously the longer he's in three the better but at this point the big stress is off!!!

After 34 weeks they stopped measuring my cervix and if my blood pressure hadn't been a problem I would have been released from bed rest.

I went back to showering every other day and I sat up for a fair part of the day. So bed rest is still important because you need to rest but the pressure of the cervix isn't as big a worry. I still tried to keep still most of the day as my blood pressure was still an issue. And because  they were worried about my BP,we had to bring packed bags to every appointment at this point. So we had to have all the basics ready to go.

But babies really don't need much at first, so don't worry. A car seat, a place to sleep, diapers, a few outfits and you're good to go. You can get everything else after he arrives if you need too.

I'm so happy for you!!

Thanks so much Ceecee... you have been such a lovely friend. Unknown yet so known, far yet so near... your encouragement has meant so much!! 35 weeks today!! Thank God we have come this far.

The only thing is my baby is little small and not putting on enough weight... two more scans scheduled for next week and then the doctors will advise if I should be induced early. I hope all goes well and my bub is fine.

Keeping faith and praying! Keep me in your thoughts!

35 weeks is incredible - think of how far you've come!! Amazing!!

My son was full term and only 6lbs 10 ounces. Now I was a small baby myself, so I'm not sure if I just make little guys or if it was related to my high high BP. They did tell me they thought he might have lost some weight that last week cookin.

At this point, if they need to induce, it's a totally different story. He might need some help with breathing but he'll be pretty darn strong. They sort of weigh the benefits each week with a goal to keep them in as long as possible.

I think I mentioned previously, but when my BP shot up around 34 weeks, they kept telling me I'd be induced early and I had to bring my packed bag to every appointment then on forward. In the end, we induced after 40 weeks. And every week they'd say 'it'll be next week for sure'!!

You've done incredible!!!

: Re: Shortening cervix 26+2 weeks

Thanks Ceecee. 36 weeks today and I feel like I never knew how to count until here.

My induction is scheduled at 37 weeks so a weeks until then. I have a growth scan tomorrow and I hope my bub has put on a little weight. BP and sugar are controlled with medication but induction is planned as I am on insulin at bedtime.

Did you see a change in type of movement of the baby around this time? The movements I feel are a little fainter though he seems to move pretty much same and with same pattern. My last scan sowed a bit of fluid reduction but let's see how tomorrow's scan goes.

Final home run... I hope all goes well! Keep us in your thoughts and wish us luck!!

OMG - you'll have your baby next week!!! That's amazing!!! :)

When we first met you, you were 26 weeks and worried about getting through each day and now you're planning on meeting your baby who will be term. Another inspirational story about how we can keep 'me cookin'.

As the baby gets bigger and has less room to move around, it does feel different. More jabs here and there because they can no longer swim around.

Can't wait to hear all the news. xo

Hurrah!! I've been checking to see how you were doing. I'm so happy for you!!!

Rest up and take care of yourself. Enjoy your small but mighty little guy. My guy was only 6lbs 10oz and he was overdue, so he was tiny as well. But oh boy did he start to catch up eventually.

Edited to add: your little one was born almost a year after mine!! We celebrated a 1st birthday on March 9th, which, I think, was your induction date. When was your little guy actually born?
