Title: Short cervix 1.8 @ 19 weeks
Post by: MrsB2 on December 22, 2017 at 03:24 PM
Hi ladies
This is my story so far - I am terrified and hope that your own stories can allay my fears or give me honest advice on what to do next!
This is me: I’m in the uk. In 2010 I had a LLETZ/LEEP for precancerous cells and had 1.4cm depth removed. I have a three year old who we conceived with fertility treatment (PCOS) after this and at my 22 week scan my cervix was 2.7cm. We had to pay for this privately as in the UK they don’t consider one previous LLETZ a concern for PTL!! My gynaecologist was happy with this and I carried to 38 weeks 6 days but had a 1 hour and 37 minute labour!
We’ve had a long journey of fertility treatment again and I am now 19 weeks 4 days. I asked my consultant at 13 weeks about checking my cervical length as my midwife was concerned that my quick labour may have weakened my cervix. They refused. Fast forward six weeks and I was getting awful pains in my vagina so they agreed to do a cervical length scan. It was closed but measuring only 1.8 without pressure. My consultant basically had no advice and said they wouldn’t really want to do a cerclage as I haven’t had a previous PTL Andy they’re worried about the risks. I also have group strep B. We begged for progesterone which they have never prescribed for short cervix at that hospital. She agreed and im taking a 200mg pessary at night. I have to go back in one week to be rescanned. They also don’t advocate bed rest in the uk but I’m on leave anyway at the moment so I’ve put myself on it! I just don’t know what to do - do I push for a cerclage or do the risks outweigh the benefits? The hospital seem so reluctant to do anything but how can’t they see that this is our child and we want to try anything we can to save it?
Sorry for such a long post - I truly appreciate any help, guidance, advice, support you can offer!! Thanks x

Hi!
Still going at 27 weeks and 2 days after cerclage at 22 weeks 3 days.
Getting some tightening/twinges/shooting pains in cervix but trying not to panic about them. My Ob doesn’t want to check me due to infection risk.
Hoping it’s all going okay down there and working towards our first target of 28 weeks - then hopefully 30, 32 and so on.
Thanks for the kind words xxx

I'm so glad you are doing well and they gave you the stitch.  What made them decide to give you it?  I am 18 weeks 5 days and got a preventative stitch at 14 weeks 1 day due to 2 previous 2nd trimester losses and i also feel the shooting pain down there  it comes and goes  i hope its normal and doesn't mean my cervix is changing.  I go to the MFM tomorrow for a CL check so i'll ask them about the pressure and shooting pain.  Are you on bedrest or modified?

Hi! Sorry - haven’t checked in for a while. 28+4 now - can’t believe it! They decided to do it because my cervix shortened again and it was basically less of a risk to do it than to leave it. There was a one in two chance I would have gone into PTL without it.
How have you been doing?
Still getting uncomfortable twinges etc and more recently loads of discharge (sorry TMI) but hanging in and hoping for a few more weeks yet.
I’m in the UK and my obstetrician said no bed rest but I’ve been signed off work with pregnancy related stress and put myself on modified bed rest.
How far along are you now? Hope you’re still going strong! Xxx

yay you made it to 28 weeks   must be such a relief.  I can't wait till i can say that.  I am 20 weeks 1 day.  I had my anatomy scan on Thursday and everything was good.  My cervix went from 2.5 the week before to 2.8 Thursday.  I pray it continues to go well.  i haven't been feeling much pressure or twinges so I've been much more relaxed.  Hope you continue to keep cookin'  your getting there :)

I’m so pleased you’re managing to stay relaxed! Are you on bedrest?
I remember reading that women were 28 weeks + and just wanting to fast forward to that. It will pass quickly for you I’m sure! Now I’m trying to get to 32 🙏🏻.
I’m getting about a bit more now. Still not driving or walking far but popping out to a cafe or going to sit at peoples houses.
Please keep in touch and let me know how you’re getting along. Keeping everything crossed for you.
Xx

I'm doing well, cervix grew to 3.3 then down to 2.8 so i guess its dynamic and the doctor says its stable.  I'm not on bedrest but i do try to take it super easy resting most of the time.  I am now 22 weeks 1 day.  Slowly getting there.

That’s great news - that sounds like a really good length even on the shorter measurement. Not long and you reach viability! I’m praying you get your rainbow.
I’ve managed to get to nearly 32 weeks (so far) with much less of a cervix so sure your longer one will keep that little one in there!
Keep going - won’t be long and it starts to fly by.

24 weeks that’s amazing! I bet you feel so relieved. Now each extra day counts so keep doing what you’re doing it’s obviously working! What’s your due date?
I’m 33 weeks today. We can’t believe it. Stitch is coming out in three weeks! After that I’m going full steam off rest and jiggling this baby out!
Keep me updated with how you’re getting along. Keep going!!! Xx

Hi
Just want to let you know that I’ve had our baby!
The day I turned 34 weeks I stood up from the couch and felt something strange. I could feel the stitch coming out! Went to hospital and I was 2-3cm dilated with bulging membranes. The stitch had completely snapped and come out - no pain, no bleeding. I gave birth to a healthy boy the next morning - a whopper for his gestation at 5lb1.5oz. He spent eleven days in Special Care where he had to learn how to keep warm and feed. He’s home now and doing well!
Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy - you can do it!!!! Xx

Oh wow congrats mama.  I'm so glad everything is great and baby is home now.  Thats crazy how the stitch could snap and you didn't have pain or bleeding.  So glad you knew something was wrong and went in.   I'm 28 weeks and 1 day today cervix still holding long and closed.  I graduated this week from the high risk clinic to low risk clinic so that is a huge milestone for me.

Thanks so much ladies!

That’s brilliant - low risk! I am sure you will be able to start to relax now and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. You really are getting there now and beyond 28 weeks is amazing. Keeping my fingers crossed that all continues to go well and I look forward to hearing about your little baby when he/she arrives!
