What's Your Story? Tell us. / Re: New here - PPROM - 20 weeks

23 weeks today.  I had mag and steroids and will now live in the hospital until baby comes.  I have had scares every day with painful contractions 3-5 minutes apart but my cerclage seems to be holding. Need to make it a few more weeks. I sincerely hope the rest of you ladies are stable and still cooking.

I’m so happy to hear you’re hanging in there! I’m in the hospital now but think I’m going to go home today for a few Days and come back at 23. I have a 4 yr old at home that I miss terribly. Sending positive vibes your way!

Honestly, they don’t know what caused it.  As far as we can tell I’m still closed and the cerclage is intact.

How are you ladies doing? Im 22weeks and Pprom yesterday.  Wondering how long I can keep her in. My previous pregnancy I only lasted a week but this time I have a cerclage which appears to be holding.

Hi there!  This is my third pregnancy.  Short cervix with my first discovered at 20 weeks but I managed to carry her to 35 weeks.  Second pregnancy my cervix started shortening dangerously (1.3) at 17 weeks.  They decided not to do a cerclage (mistake). When I went in at 20 weeks for my growth scan I was dilated.  They tried to do an emergency cerclage and my water broke.  I delivered a week later at 21 weeks.

Here I am now trying one last time to have another baby.  I had a preventative Shirodkar cerclage placed at 13 weeks and they told me I was already starting to dilate.  Since then things have been ok.  I'm definitely taking it easy and am now 17 weeks.  My MFM doesn't feel the need to do cervical length checks but I asked my OB to last week and it was 3.4.  I was pretty pleased with that.  So now to my question... I've been having a lot of cramping the last few weeks and over the last few days it seems to be more intense.  I happened to be at my Dr's office yesterday getting my progesterone shot and mentioned it to my Dr.  He scanned my cervix and it was down to 2.8 but was closed and there was no funneling. He didn't seem that concerned and told me to stop in next week and he'd check it again.

I've never had cramping in previous pregnancies.  Is this normal from my growing uterus or are these contractions that are causing my cervix to shorten?  I asked my Dr. but he basically said there was nothing we could do either way. Could the cerclage be causing more cramping?  Any of you ladies experience this?

Preterm Labor: Anything and Everything / Re: Short cervix

I had similar measurements to you in my first pregnancy and managed to carry my daughter to just shy of 36 weeks.  My mfm did not recommend bedrest but I put myself on modified rest and I truly think that was what helped stabilize my cervix.  Good luck to you!

Thanks you all for the well wishes.  Sadly, I went into labor last week and delivered our son at 21 weeks.  He passed immediately.  This whole experience has rocked our world.  I feel so lucky that I made it to 35 weeks with my first pregnancy knowing now that I have an incompetent cervix.  Pregnancy for me is so stressful, I don't think I can ever go through this again.

Thanks.  I've read a lot of positive outcomes as well.  They tell me it's an extremely small chance we'll make it to viability but we're just going to wait and see.  What's troubling to me is that again my high risk ground does not advise bedrest.  They are telling me it makes no difference.  All of the other stories i read online the patients were put on strict bed rest.  I'm just electing to do my own modified bed rest because it just doesn't feel right to be up running around with ruptured membranes.

Thank you all for your kind responses.  Just to give you an update on where we are at.... We went in for my 20 week ultrasound and everything looked great but i was starting to dialate 1 cm.  They decided to place a cerclage but unfortunately when they went in my bag of water broke.  I was given the option to induce or wait and see what happens.  They say I will likely go into labor or get an infection in the next few weeks before the baby's viable.  That said, I see success stories so we've decided to wait it out.  Wish us luck!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE UPDATES! My water broke this weekend at 20 weeks (while attempting a cerclage) and the doctors here have not given us much hope.  I am so encourage to see how well your little guy is doing.

Hey there!  I read this forum a lot during my first pregnancy but have never posted.  I'm 17 weeks along with my second pregnancy.  My first I had a short cervix was, on progesterone and bedrest and delivered a healthy baby girl at 35 weeks.  I just had my first check and my cervix is already down to 1.3! The high risk specialists don't want to do a cerclage (I'm not dialted yet) and they don't recommend bed rest.  They also just switched me from progesterone shot (I hadn't started yet) to the suppositories.  I'm feeling conflicted about the no bedrest.  I feel it helped with my last pregancy.  It is the last thing I want to do with a 2 year old running around but now every time I'm active I worry that I'm doing harm.  What has your experience been with bedrest?  I'm feeling pretty anxious and depressed that this is happening again and so early in my pregnancy!
I was really hoping for a full term baby.
