Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Monday Roll Call for August 14, 2017

I am on week 34 now. I've been on bedrest at home for the last 15 weeks. I am looking forward to getting off bed rest in just two more weeks! We announced the baby's name this past weekend (Eva Alyssia). That was exciting.

I hope everyone has a good week!

Congrats on your delivery! At least your doctors were prepared. I did not hemorage with my first so I don't know that experience. I was told babies do well in the NICU after 32 weeks. I know making it past 32 weeks was a huge milestone for me. I hope your baby is doing well! Sending you prayers!

Hello

My cerclage is scheduled to be removed at 36 weeks. I see two doctors my normal Obgyn and a high risk MFM doctor. They both said it needs to come out on week 36. They also told me that it is not common to go into labor the day it is removed. My high risk doctor has had only one patient go into labor the same day of removal.  I also want it out on week36 because I don't want to go into labor with that in place.

This is my first pregnancy with an emergency cerclage in place. I stopped reading up on it online months ago. There is just too much conflicting info on google. If anything, "Dr Google" just made me more panicked and less calm.  I hope this helps! Congrats on getting to week 36.

Hello!

I am on week 32 now. They detected hourglass membranes at my routine ultrasound I had at 19 weeks. Hourglassing of membranes is basically where the water bag comes out and the cervix is already open. My cervix was dialated 5-6cm when the doctor pushed the membranes back in to place an emergency cerclage. We met with six different doctors in NH before we found one willing to attempt the cerclage. The doctors were very pessimistic. Now the two doctors I meet with are very optimistic because my cerclage has been stable for a little over 12 weeks now. I am on bed rest at home. I have another doctors appointment tomorrow but it is with my regular Obgyn and not my high risk MFM doctor. I hope everyone has a good week!

I am on week 31 now. I started working from home this week and today was my first day working. I only signed up for 20 hrs per week.  I only have to do 4 hrs per day. I've just spent the last 11 weeks not working and just doing strict bed rest. It's tough working a laptop from bed. It will take some getting used to. If anything, I hope it helps to pass the time.

I had a doctors appointment last week. My emergency cerclage is still holding and I have about 1 cm of cervix.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Happy Birthday to your little guy Angela! So glad you started this group!

I am on my 11th week of bed rest at home. We are doing well at 30 weeks. My emergency cerclage appears to still be holding. I have my biweekly doctors appointment this week. After 28 weeks, I have been able to sit up to eat. That has been nice!

Enjoy the week everyone!

Hello!

Praying for you! That is great you got the steroid shots and were admitted into the hospital.

My cervix opened at 19 weeks and the membranes were out into the vagina. I ended up getting an emergency cerclage because I was not close to viability. I am on week 30 now and am in bedrest at home.

Hugs!

Hello!

Welcome to everyone new!

I actually don't have a song but what a great idea! Maybe I will organize my music library next as a project.  I am almost done with going through all my digital photos.

I am now at week 29 and have been on bed rest for 10 weeks.  I pick a weekly project to do now and read, cross stitch, Netflix and reach out to others as small time fillers.

I am also feeling very out of shape. i notice that I get a bit winded when I take my 5-10 minute occasional shower.  I wonder how long it will take my body to recover from all this..

I hope everyone has a great week! Hugs

Oh good, you have figured it out. I am happy to be able to sit to eat now. I have noticed each doctor recommends different things for bedrest. I also play it safe and don't risk anything. Hope you had a good Fourth as well!

Hi,

I would ask your doctor. I am on week 28. I saw my doctor this week.  I have been on strict bedrest only getting up for the restroom and occasional shower.  Anyways as of this week, I can sit up to eat for 15-20 minutes. Everyone's bodies and conditions are different though.  I know in my case, I cannot take care of my 16 month old on my own.  I can lay and read with him, play baby games on my iPad and watch nursery rhymes with him.  My doctors will not lift my bed rest until week 36. We have my 16 month old in daycare during the day and my husband brings him home after work.  Anyways, I think it's worth asking your doctor about it.  Congrats on 27 weeks!

Pregnancy Complications / Re: Short cervix at 20 weeks
« on: July 04, 2017 at 12:18 AM »
Hi Aciric,

I had an emergency cerclage placed at 20 weeks.  I was told that I had 2 cm left of cervix after the cerclage was placed. My doctor does not contunue to make measurements of my cervix though.  He just checks to make sure the stitch is still holding.  I am on week 28 now.  I'm not sure if this information helps because I had no choice but to get a cerclage done.  My water bag had slipped through the cervix.  They had to push it back in to place the cerclage.

I am on home bedrest and only get up for the restroom and occasional shower.  I do call my doctor if I feel anything that concerns me.  I think because I am on bedrest and not out doing things, I am far more in tune with my body.  So far, my bed rest life has been uneventful. I do get tightening in my stomach depending on what the baby is doing in there :).

I think I have read stories on this site that are very similar to yours.  When I first found out I had IC, I read so many stories.  It helped to know I'm not alone however too much reading on google freaked me out! I now cross stitch, Netflix, read, reach out to others,  organize my photos...just to help keep me calm through this challenging experience.

Wish you the best! Hugs

I am on week 28 now.  My cerclage is still holding and it's been an uneventful bedrest life! Yay.  I keep coming up with new things to do while on bedrest lol.  I've been on bedrest at home for 9 weeks and hopefully have a ways to go!

Congrats to everyone who has had their babies these past couple of weeks!

Hello,

When I went in for a routine ultrasound at 19.5 weeks, they noticed that my water bag had slipped through the cervix (a condition called "hourglass membranes"). It took me a week of traveling between three different hospitals to find a doctor willing to attempt an emergency cerclage.  It also involves pushing the water bag back in to make the stitch. Luckily at 20.5 weeks I was able to get an emergency cerclage. I am on 26 weeks + 5 days now.  I am on strict bed rest. I can get up for the restroom and occasional shower. My doctor is optimistic that I will make it.  I am not on progesterone, only strict bed rest. My doctor basically said if my stitch holds past two weeks after surgery, his confidence level goes up. My doctor is more confident than I am lol. I did have two rounds of steroid shots for the baby's lungs this week. I try to take it a day at a time. It's just easier for me to mentally deal with all this.

You should check out Wylee's story on this site. Every situation is different but it gave me some hope.

My doctor is a firm believer in bed rest though. He treated another patient that needed an emergency cerclage around the same time I did. That patient did not follow his bed rest orders and only lasted 3 weeks after the emergency cerclage.   I will say that not every doctor I met with when trying to get a cerclage done was a believer in bed rest. Luckily I listened to my gut and have stayed on it since finding the hourglasses membranes.

Hugs and I wish you the bed.25 weeks is awesome! I know I was thrilled just to get to week 24 and then out of it :)

Good idea on the new toys. I bet she loves that! I am a little afraid my son will be attached to my iPad and the tv after this experience. I'll deal with that when the time comes ;)  Congrats on making it to 25 weeks! You are past the viability point as well. Amazing!
