What's Your Story? Tell us. / Successful outcome after bed rest :)
« on: June 14, 2011 at 07:38 PM »
Hi Ladies,
I haven't posted much on the forum, but thought you would like to know about a happy outcome for someone put on bed rest.

I was put on bed rest at the end of January at 26 weeks for some pre-term labor symptoms and a short cervix.  My due date was May 10th.  I was on bed rest for 8-9 weeks, and got my freedom back around 35 weeks.  I was induced on May 5th, mostly out of convenience but also because I was concerned about not feeling as much baby movement.

Baby John was 8 lbs, 1 oz and 20 1/2 inches long.  He is healthy and strong, and now almost 6 weeks old (hard to believe) and probably weighs close to 11 lbs now.

This baby was against the odds - I will be 43 on Sunday and had several miscarriages several years ago when we were trying to have a 3rd baby (my other children are 8 & 9 years old).  My 8 year old was born prematurely at 35 weeks, so we all thought this baby would be early too.  I often wonder how long he would have kept cooking if we chose not to induce!

I believe the bed rest is what allowed me to have a happy outcome.  I never thought I could "do" bed rest (I'm an active person)...Hang in there!  It IS worth it in the end.

What has helped me the most is visitors and phone calls from friends.  I guess you will be visiting, so that will be helpful, but another thing that has kept me motivated is a book with the developmental stages of the baby, week by week.  It shows how important each week in utero is for the baby's development.  When I get weary of sitting here, I look at the book and see what will be happening in the next week or so and it makes it easier to stay off my feet.  You might see if you could get some magazines with the same information from an OBs office - my OBs office gave me one at my first appointment.

What was NOT helpful was people telling me how lucky I am to be on bedrest - how nice it must be not to have to do laundry, chores, etc.  Obviously this came from someone who had never experienced bed rest herself.

What a great thing you are doing - I think just having your visit will be very helpful to these moms!

I am still on modified bedrest - I will be 32 weeks tomorrow.  No appointments this week - hoping to get some restrictions lifted at 33 weeks when I go back to see my doctor.

Had my 3-D sonogram last week at my 31 week appointment- the baby weighed 3 lbs, 9 oz!  So hard to believe!

Other than that, all is well.  Hope everyone else is hanging in there!

Hi Everyone!

I had my 31 week visit today and everything looked good.

After 5 weeks of bed rest, my cervix is holding up at 2.4 and the baby weighs 3 lbs., 9 oz.  Doctor said I can get out once a day - still no driving or chores, but I was pretty happy about the idea of getting out a little bit!

I hope everyone else is doing okay!

Hi Everyone,
I missed roll call yesterday - kids home from school and all my days seem to be the same so I forgot it was Monday I guess!

I had my 28 week appt last week and the doctor seemed happy with my status but told me not to get too cocky.  I don't go back until March 7th, which I thought was kind of weird because it's a full 3 weeks in between appointments, but I guess that's a good sign.

Hope all is well with everyone - my next milestone is 32 weeks!

Hello Everyone,
I have my 28 week appointment tomorrow and I am hoping that nothing has changed for the worse and that I can stay on modified bed rest.

Hope everyone is doing well out there and Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi Loran Mommy- your situation sounds very similar to mine.  I am 26 weeks tomorrow, due date May 10th, baby boy.  I was admitted to the hospital for observation over the weekend because of cramping and my cervix did shorten but I am still at a 3.14.  I'm on modified bed rest, I can get up and make a small meal, take showers, etc. but it seems like overkill for my situation.  I had 3 contractions Friday night in 3 hours, but mostly just menstrual like cramping.  What do you think?

Best of luck with the bed rest.  It is difficult when you are used to being active.  Do you have other children?

What's Your Story? Tell us. / Day one of bed rest
« on: January 30, 2011 at 11:15 PM »
Hello All,
I am new to bed rest and new to the forum.  Just got released from the hospital today after a 2 night stay for pre-term labor symptoms (lots of menstrual like cramping).  I have only been home for 8 hours and although it's better to be home than in the hospital, I can tell this is going to be rough.  I'm not a sitter!  But I do have a lot of support from family & friends.

I'm 42, unexpectedly expecting our 3rd baby.  DD is 9 and DS is 7.  DS was born at 35 weeks - no signs of preterm labor, just PROM.  DD was born at term.

I have a home monitor for contractions and tomorrow I get a pump to administer Breathaline continuously.  I'm also taking Procardia.

Just wondered, what is the best way to get thru this?  My due date is May 10th, I'm 26 weeks along.
