Hi
I was on bed rest with both my pregnancies for a short cervix (as low as .7 with both). With my first, I had a positive Ffn at 29 weeks. I delivered both babies full term.

Stay positive and I wish you well.

What's Your Story? Tell us. / Re: Why am I on hospital bed rest???
« on: September 06, 2011 at 11:43 PM »
Hi Laurie,
I have been on hospital bed rest through 2 pregnancies for a short cervix. I was in for 5 weeks the first time and in for a litlle over 8 weeks during my last pregnancy.  (I just had my new little one 2 weeks ago).

I never had any other symptoms of preterm labor and never had any contractions to speak of in either pregnancy.  I also asked my doctors why I needed to be in the hospital on bed rest rather than being able to stay at home.  I was told it was really a precaution. At 26 weeks, the babies are still very small.  Labor could come on very quickly and you wouldn't need to be fully dilated to have the babies.  Preterm babies have the best chance of survival when they can be cared for immediately by NICU.  So, if anything were to happen, you are in the best place to make sure you get immediate medical attention to either help stop labor or attend to re babies immediately.

They may also wait a bit to do a Ffn if the results wouldn't change their decision to keep you in the hospital.  As my MFM doctor said, a positive result would only cause worry, and a negative result wouldn't change the recommended care.

I was allowed to go home at about 32 weeks with both pregnancies and carried both babies full term without issue.

I know hospital bed rest really sucks, but the time does end up going by pretty quickly and it all becomes a distant memory very quickly.

Good luck to you,
Sheri

Thanks guys.  Sunny, I'll let my husband know his advice is still being read.  He posted it a little over 2 years ago when I was pregnant with our first son.  He was very supportive during both of my bed rest sentences.

Hi all,
Baby Max arrived as scheduled on Monday, Aug 22nd via C-section at 39 weeks.  After more than 3 months on bed rest (with 2 of those months in the hospital) for a short cervix we feel very blessed to have a healthy baby boy join our family.  He weighed in at 9 lbs 3 oz and 21 inches.  Those steroid shots must ave helped him grow big and strong. :). The delivery went smoothly and recovery is going well too.

He joins our older son who was also born at 39 weeks after a lengthy bed rest stint for a short cervix.  We are doing great and now that my parents have flown back home, we are beginning to adjust to our new life as a family of four.

For those of you still cooking, get up the good work and stay positive.

Hi all,
I am 38 weeks today. My doctors appointment went well this afternoon and the baby looked great on the NST.   My c-section is scheduled for a week from today.  I'm so excited to be this far along.  I'm ready to meet my new little man.

Hope everyone has a great wek of cooking.

Hi Ladies,
Congrats on the KEC 3 yr mark.  It's been a helpful site to me through two pregnancies and I appreciate your time and dedication you put into the site.

I am 37 weeks today, so have officially made it to full term! My doctors appointment went well again today. Baby looked good on the NST and my blood pressure is behaving well. My C-section is scheduled for 8/22, so my little one will be here soon. Now my husband and I just need to settle on a name.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Welcome to the forum. Pregnancy after a loss is really tough. Remember, every pregnancy is different and try to stay as positive as possible.  My husband and I experience a loss with our first pregnancy.  The next time I really struggled with having a wait and see what happens baby. I was afraid to get too excited about the pregnancy and had to really struggle for a while with being scared all the time.

Hang in there. Many great woman are on this forum who are here to listen to us vent and share our fears.

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Frustrated and need advice

It is tough to realize what our husbands are going through.  I know I have been frustrated at times because I feel like no matter how much extra he has had to do, at least he hasn't had to put his life on hold and miss participating in what most would consider everyday activities.  A high risk pregnancy is stressful for both the mommy and daddy.  Hang in there and make sure you keep open lines of communication to discuss how you're feeling.

Good luck

Hang in ther Melanie. I am in Florida and feel miserably hot most of the time too.  We haven't been quite as hot as you guys, but our humidity is way up there and even the nights and early mornings are sticky and hot. I can't wait until winter and cooler temps.

I'll be keeping you and your friend and son in my prayers. Hope your week is more bearable.

Congrats Threacatcher on making it all the way and being induced.  That happened to me with my last pregnancy. I am 36 weeks today and excited to be this close to being considered full term and only 3 weeks away from my scheduled c-section. I have my weekly OB appointment on Thursday. Last week he told me he didn't really expect me to go into labor before the induction. So, hopefully it will be smooth sailing from this point on. I still feel like I have a lot to do to prepare for our new little one to be here.

Happy cooking this week ladies!

I'll be thinking of you. I had funneling and a short cervix, down to .7 with this pregnancy and my last one. I never had a stitch put in with either pregnancy. I was induced at 39 weeks with my first and am currently at 35 weeks 3 days with my second and the doctors don't think I will have a problem getting to full term this time.  It is possible to suprise the doctors. You never know how strong that last bit of cervix is.

It does seem pretty late to get it done. I'm surprised they would wait so long. Even if it is late, it might be good to check it out, just to make sure. That way, if needed, you can follow up after the pregnancy for your own health. Also, if needed, you could work on controlling your blood sugars before the birth. But, I'd still ask your doctor a little more about it.

Hi all, Sorry for posting late.

Glad to see all you women who are still cooking. I am 35+3 days now. At my doctors appointment last Thursday, my OB officially released me from bed rest. Yeah!  To celebrate, we headed to the beach for a weekend getaway before we add a new little one to the family. It was a great time with my husband and 22 month old son to spend together. I am working on getting my strength back, it's sup rising how sore and tired I get just from walking.

Hope all you ladies have a great week.
