Hello, ladies!

For women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, and particularly those on bedrest, you're so focused on NOT delivering your baby that you may not think much about delivery. I wanted to share this quote on the power of giving birth, and to reassure you that you will be ready whenever the time comes!

“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth.” – author Marcie Macari

I hope to see ALL of you in the Chat Room tomorrow at 2 pm Eastern.

What's the craziest thing someone has said to you while you've been on bedrest? Here are my faves from my two pregnancies:

1) You're STILL pregnant? Maybe you didn't even need to be on bedrest.
2) I shouldn't say this, but you really remind me of Jabba the Hut.
3) A (male) doctor strolling right into my hospital room and starting up a conversation (and continuing it!) while I was using the bed pan!!!
4) Let me know if you need any help. I can give you the number of my cleaning lady.

I'm sure there were others! Tell me yours!

"I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything."
--Dan Millman

And this is your time to cook! Let everything else fall aside...for now. So tell me what is new, ladies! What are you looking forward to this week? As always, let us know how many weeks along you are.

Happy Monday!

I hope each of you will schedule something today to anticipate. For example:

*Order a new book/movie/game that you have been wanting.
*Have a great friend bring you lunch or dinner from a favorite place.
*Ask someone to finally take care of that thing around the house that has been driving you crazy but you just haven't felt comfortable asking.

Remember that you are an important person doing an important job!  Don't hesitate to ask for the care and attention you need.  :)

Happy Monday! And welcome to another month!

Let us know how you're doing... AND let us know what you're eating. What kinds of meals and snacks are easiest to prepare (or not have to prepare) on bedrest?

First off, I'm thrilled to share this message from BabyB#2:

After 5 months of bedrest, 6 1/2 weeks of that in the hospital.  I had my cerclage removed on Wednesday the 13th. Baby girl decided to come on our wedding anniversary 9/15.  She was 36+3, No NICU time, thank goodness.

Sending you my biggest congratulations! I get chills every time I hear a success story like this! For anyone else reading this post, don't give up hope.

So ladies, let us know how many weeks along you are. What are you looking forward to this week? I haven't hosted a Live Chat in a while because turnout was low, but I'd like to start it up again. If you think you would generally be available on Tuesdays at 2 pm Eastern, let me know. And if you'd like to chat tomorrow at 2, let me know: http://www.keepemcookin.com/live-chat/

Hello, ladies!

How is everyone doing? How many weeks are you? Any surprise trips to L&D last week? And who is holding smooth and steady?

I just wanted to say a quick word about preeclampsia today. I never expected that I would get it, and no one ever does. It can come on quickly, so I want to encourage all of you to keep an eye out for its symptoms: high blood pressure, protein in the urine, hyperactive reflexes, pain under the right rib, sudden swelling, sudden weight gain, nausea or vomiting, shoulder pain, vision changes (spots, blurriness), headache, lower back pain, racing pulse, confusion, shortness of breath or chest pain. You can learn more at www.Preeclampsia.org. If you have ANY of these symptoms, report them to your doctor right away.

Looking forward to your updates!

I thought I'd do a fun question this week, to help keep you focused on the end goal: What do you dream of doing with your baby someday? Is there a certain activity? A hobby you'd like to share? A place to go? Tell us!

It's Labor Day in the U.S. today. Mostly I'm a fan of labor days when Mom is at least 37 weeks along.  ;) So it's the last unofficial day of summer here, with the kids starting school tomorrow. Do any of you already have kids? I can't wait for you to have the experience of taking those "First Day of School" pictures! Do it when you'd be getting up for a bathroom break anyway. And I wish the same someday for all of you moms-to-be!

I'm looking forward to your updates! I hope to be more involved with KEC again once we're back into our school year routine. We should be starting the Live Chat again beginning next Tuesday. I will let you all know!

Today I want to share some wisdom from my late grandma:

Don't meet trouble halfway.
Let it travel the full distance,
because something usually happens to it before it arrives.

Anxiety and worry seem to be such a common part of bedrest. There's just too much time to think about all that might go wrong! Try not to get trapped in that kind of thinking. Instead, feel confident knowing that you are doing all you can to keep your baby (or babies) safe.

Hello, you wonderful mamas! I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's updates!

Were any of you able to get eclipse goggles for today if you are in one of the states where it will be visible? Do any of you live near the path of totality?  The longest duration of totality will be near Carbondale, IL, where the sun will be completely covered for two minutes and 40 seconds. Some places, like Kansas City, KS— which is at the edge of totality — will only witness totality for about 20 seconds.

Speaking of things that are round... Does anyone want to post belly pix on our Facebook page? http://www.facebook.com/KeepEmCookin I thought that might be fun!

Hello, ladies!

Today I am sharing a link to an article about moms who nearly died after delivery.  I know you don't want to think about any other possible thing that can go wrong with your pregnancy, but there is some excellent advice here. I developed preeclampsia that led to kidney failure and me being away from my son the first two weeks of his life. Demanding care for mothers AFTER delivery is a topic I feel strongly about. When your OB says to make an appointment to see her in 6 weeks (the standard of care), you don't have to wait. If you've been experiencing high blood pressure, headaches, bleeding, placenta previa, swelling, anxiety, depression or anything else that concerns you, set an appointment within the first week after delivery. Those are symptoms or complications that could become worse after you deliver. You can also have a doula come to your home to assess your health.

My other recommendation is to have a partner or family member who is ready to advocate for you if something doesn't seem right or if something goes wrong. If you feel like your health care providers are listening to you or aren't taking you seriously, your partner MUST fight for you. Your partner can also be your second set of ears. Have them write things down for you and encourage them to ask questions.

On a lighter note, I hope to see you all on the live chat tomorrow!
