What's Your Story? Tell us. / Jalen Michael is here!! 36w 4 days
« on: February 14, 2012 at 12:16 PM »
Following my cerclage removal at 35 w 6 days, I have had it in my head that I wasn't going to go to the hospital for "false labor" and be sent home, so over the weekend I endured contractions (every 5-15 min.) but because they weren't "regular" I refused to go in. Then on Monday morning, as I lay in bed debating getting up, I had a sudden sharp pain and my water broke. Yes! Exactly what I wanted. I was 36 w 4 days.

By the time we got our daughter Haley to daycare and drove in rush hour traffic it was just after 8 am when we arrived at the hospital. I was assessed and 3cm 70 % eff. and they moved me to my suite. Just before 10 am I asked for an epidural and it took them almost an hour to get there. The first anesteologist tried it 2 times, the first time he hit a blood vessel, so he started over and tried again, the second time he said he couldn't be sure so he called the attending to inspect. He decided he wanted to do it AGAIN. So for the third time they tried it, by now it was after 11:30. Since I had been in some serious pain during all this (I took well over an hour) I asked to be checked for dilation, they checked and low and behold I was fully dilated! They let me "rest" for a little bit so I could be active in the pushing and I delivered like 45 min. later at 12:26.

So Jalen is here. He weighs 5lbs. 8 oz. and has been doing well. NICU was called for his blood sugar and body temp. concerns, but knowing how badly we want to keep him and have the "normal" experience they are doing everything in room for now.   :D

My husband and I are in shock yet again, and absolutely feel like first time parents again. He just spit up and we both freaked out. It took me a minute to be like um, he's not destating, turning blue and there are no monitors beeping, he's just fine.

Thanks for all your well wishes and support during my 15 weeks of bedrest!

This is a question for my friends with (or who have had) a cerclage...

My cerclage has been in for about 10 weeks now... I was wondering if anyone experiences a "pinching" feeling? I notice, especially when I am up and about, that I have this sharp pain "down there". I can even feel it when I move my legs while sitting. I would rate it a 4-5 on a pain scale from one to ten, nothing crazy but enough that it's noticeable and uncomfortable.

I'm not scheduled to go in this week for a check but I was in L&D about 2 weeks ago, they did an internal and said that the cerclage was stable. I guess at my next appt. I will have them check again?

Preterm Labor: Anything and Everything / low amniotic fluid levels?
« on: December 19, 2011 at 05:14 PM »
Sometimes I wonder if I weren't being followed SO closely if I would ever know about half the stuff they have found this pregnancy?! Never the less, today I had a growth ultrasound, now that I am 28 weeks, no cervical measurements and followed just with a "talk" with the doc. One of those, "do you have any questions because I don't really have anything to tell you since things look good talks". So fine, I'll take the good :) Then we got home and I had a missed call, the secretary called to tell me they want me back next week because my "fluids are on the low side", nothing to worry about but instead of going 2 weeks they want me back in a week to measure. I do have an "accessory lobe" so as much as they said this is just extra placenta, I am not sure how this effects everything down there.

Any feedback/experience.

ps. baby looked great measured 2 lb. 12 oz. (which is 4 oz bigger than his sister who was born at 2.7 oz. at almost this exact time in our last pregnancy)

Making the Best of Bed Rest / cerclage & bedrest, now what?
« on: November 09, 2011 at 12:04 PM »
Hi all. I am going to my first scheduled appt. since my cerclage last week. I guess I am kind of wondering what we should expect? I will be 23 weeks tomorrow. I know they will be doing an ultrasound prior to my appointment with the doc, but I guess I am wondering what they will be looking for and how/if the cerclage changes my CL? I was given the cerclage when it dropped from 2.7 to 2.3 in one week.

Any advice? Things I should ask??
