Making the Best of Bed Rest / Twins are here!
« on: June 19, 2011 at 07:22 AM »
Hello everyone!  ;D
Friday I delivered (induced) two healthy boys, Beckett & Noah. Beckett was born at 10:56 am, weighed 7lbs, 20" long, 9-10 apgars and Noah was born 11:30am 6lbs5oz, 20" long, 8-9 apgars.
I went really fast, in about 2.5hrs and barely had time for an epidural. I had only been hurting an hour when my nurse talked me into an epidural (she had a premonition I was going to go fast), I started out being 3-4cm and was 4cm after an hour and thought it was too soon to get the epidural. I am SO glad I did because after the epidural, I went from 5cm to 10cm in about 45 minutes. Beckett came out in 2-3 pushes, but Noah was a struggle. He was transverse/sideways & then face-up so he took a lot of manipulation to turn him and get him in the right position. He was in distress during all that moving, about 15-20 minutes of low heartrate. As much manipulation as it took, I would have ended up in surgery with a cesarean for him if I hadn't had the epidural to relax me & make all that painless. Listen to your nurses, sometimes they know! Thank God!!!!  :D

We're still in the hospital, unfortunately Beckett is losing weight and won't nurse or latch even onto a bottle. Please keep us in your prayers as we struggle to make him eat. I would like to go home today as an intact family!  :-\

Thanks for all the prayer, thoughts & support! I will post pics as soon as I get home.

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Crazy stranger comments
« on: June 16, 2011 at 09:31 AM »
How many of you have been asked if you were having twins? Ok, so I KNOW I am having twins, but as a total stranger, how is it appropriate to ask me that?! I actually was bigger with my daughter and don't remember anyone asking me that!

I was  told yesterday (again, total stranger) I have a "two-butt tummy".... what the heck is that supposed to mean?!  ???

Oh yeah, one girl-worker at Mcdonald's asked if my babies had the same father, because she had heard sometimes twins could have different baby's daddies....   ::)

I don't know what it is about pregnancy that removes social boundaries, but it can be frustrating.  :-\  Don't touch my belly if you don't know me or have my permission (& don't ASK to touch my belly)!!!!

Since I've been off strict bedrest, I've been out more and have been accosted by complete strangers nearly every time I've been out! My husband thinks it's funny. I, however, am hot, moody, volatile & ready to not stand out like a clown in a crowd!

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Breastfeeding
« on: June 13, 2011 at 07:09 AM »
OK, so I started looking up breastfeeding twins today and was directed to You Tube for some instructional videos. They really didn't tell me anything I didn't know already... HOWEVER - I did come across some videos of 30 month-old twins breastfeeding. I have to admit, I  was kind of grossed out. Does anyone else have an opinion on this (optimal age to breastfeed to)?!  :-[

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Scheduled for induction
« on: June 10, 2011 at 05:01 PM »
So I went for my battery of tests/appointments today and am still 2cm....  :-\ My doc said she wanted to induce next Friday, so it looks like I'll have my kiddos on or by then! I'm pretty psyched! I'll still be a little early (37.1), but she said because they're twins, one is measuring a little smaller, and my increasing blood pressures, she can't see any real benefit in waiting. Truthfully, I'm so relieved! I can't believe after 20 weeks of bedrest that I may end up being induced! Just glad they've made it this far.  :)

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Silly venting
« on: June 07, 2011 at 06:58 PM »
Is anyone else tired of people calling, emailing or texting you asking if you've delivered yet?!?! I'm thinking it's more with the mother's past 34-35 weeks. I'm 35 weeks 5 days and I've had 8 phone calls/emails/texts in the past 24 hours asking me if I have babies yet! AAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  >:(  I've just stopped answering my phone!  :(   I got an email from my step-mother and all that was in it was: "Well???" ..... <groan> ::)

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Visit today
« on: June 03, 2011 at 05:21 PM »
OK, so I had my weekly Doc visit today with my regular OB, and my NST & FBP. I'm 35 weeks 1 day today!!!  :D  I've been having a lot of contractions lately, and spent most of last night walking around, in the tub or sitting on the birthing ball propped against the bed (absolutely MISERABLE!). Also, Baby B is under my ribcage on the right side, making in nearly impossible to lay on the right side or just breathe in general. They didn't measure them today (last week 5lbs5oz & 6lbs1oz), but said they're both head down (YAY!), baby A is now "wedged" in my pelvis, face up/OP (BOOOOOO!!!), and Baby B is face up as well.  :-\ However- they looked great on the ultrasound and heart monitors, I'm contracting every 7-9 minutes and and now 2cm dilated and 90% effaced. SO- I may be starting into those first few days of labor, or I may go another few weeks, who knows?! I would like to make it to 36 weeks for their sakes, but at this point the discomforts of pregnancy are making it seem less detrimental in delivering before then! They've already said they won't do anything to stop my labor at this point, so it's a watching & waiting game. My blood pressure was up a good bit, so they did some blood work to make sure I'm not getting pre-eclamptic yet (like I did with my daughter).

Such a long journey, but there is light at this point!  :) Hang in there all you mommies in the teens & twenties! I was right where you are not too long ago in this bedrest nightmare. It's all worth it and 4.5months later I'm seeing the light, brighter each day.

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Nesting instinct?
« on: May 29, 2011 at 04:56 PM »
So I have a question to all of you out there....
What do you think about the nesting instinct in relation to timing of labor? It's not a very scientific thing, I was just wondering if anyone had experience with this in the past. I can't remember with my daughter, but the past two days I have been stir crazy with a sort of urgency to clean & organize everything. I don't know if it's officially "nesting", or just my realization that I may hatch any day now.
Thoughts? ???

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Today's appointment
« on: May 26, 2011 at 06:22 PM »
So I'm 34 weeks today (HOORAY!)  :D on week 18th of bedrest. My uterus is measuring 46 weeks:o My doctor told me: "I'm so sorry. I bet you're miserable!" That's an understatement!!!!!
But hey, I'm glad I'm here, right? 34 weeks with twins  ;D
Going for my ultrasound for biophysical profiles tomorrow morning. My doc wants them measured because she's a little concerned with the weight difference. Baby "B" overtook Baby "A" by 9 ounces last time, which was odd because they had been running neck-in-neck with Baby B always being the smaller one (2 oz difference). She even mentioned "delivery" if the weight difference was broadening...   :-\ Wow.... from bedrest to preterm induction?  ???
(To be continued.....)

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Husbands! <sigh>
« on: May 25, 2011 at 07:15 PM »
Ok.... so my husband was ordering a waterproof cover today for our new, $2,000.00 mattress just "in case" my water breaks while I'm in bed and he asks me: "Is 3-5 days shipping too long do you think?"
Um.... OK, I told him: "Honey, I have NO idea! Are you asking for a time line here?" And he responded: "Well, what do you think? Maybe? How do you feel?".... ::)  Um... let me consult my crystal ball... Wait! Why didn't I do that 18 weeks ago, you know, when I was put on bedrest?!?!?!

Husbands have no freaking clue...

(Oh, he ordered it to be shipped overnight based on his paranoia...  ;)) Hehehehehe....

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Biophysical & NST's
« on: May 22, 2011 at 10:32 AM »
Hey gals!  :)
I had my NST's and Fetal biophysical profiles (FBP's) done on Friday and all is well. Baby A is extremely low in my pelvis and putting a lot of pressure on everything in that area! My CL is down to 2cm and a fingertip externally dilated (not surprising at this point anyway). Besides baby A running a low baseline, the heart rates looked great, and they scored 10 out of 10. Baby B has a lot of hair!!! It's the first time we've seen that. I was bald when I was born, so I was kind of expecting the same thing for them. Baby A is too low to see, but as far as we can tell takes after no hair!  ;D maybe that one will be a boy and it won't matter as much!  ;)  Hopefully next week she'll measure them and I'll be able to brag on their sizes... at the current rate, they should be about 10.5lbs between the two of them now!  :o

I've been having a lot of contractions, some of my first painful ones and the carpal tunnel has been nigh unbearable at night (I have an appointment with an orthopedic doc on Tuesday to hopefully inject my wrists to help me get through!).  :-\ I've also been pulling ligaments very easily with minimal movements which has been agonizing. I guess my body's being stretched to the limits! All for the kiddos, right? Now that I'm so close to the end, I can see a light. 33 weeks and 3 days today! Yay!!!  :D

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Appointment today
« on: May 13, 2011 at 05:34 PM »
Well, after 3 appointments today at two different hospitals, I am here to say Friday the 13th isn't so bad!!!!!  :)
My fetal biophysical profiles were great. Babies scored 8 of 8. My cervix hasn't changed, besides a very slight funneling at top.
My NST was wonderful, their heart rates were fabulous, and they stayed on the monitors the whole time!
My FFN was negative (last one of those I have to have done), so the coast looks clear until after 34 weeks!!!  :D
My cervix was long & closed according to the doctor's manual exam.
The doctor even talked about scheduling an induction if I make it as far as 36 weeks. I'm sure she means inducing somewhere around 38-39 weeks if I want to after that point.
I got permission to take my daughter to the pool as often as I like, if I "float", stay hydrated, and don't exert myself... (ok, so I kind of pushed this one on her!)
I am also allowed to take myself off the procardia and just take it as needed.
My blood pressure was a little high for my normal, but came down after I laid down. I had pre-eclampsia with my daughter so I'm going to have to watch that one at home. The doctor's not concerned with it yet.

I hope everyone else has as good of luck/blessings I've had today.  :D It's great to get such uplifting news while being so miserable! Makes it much easier to bear!

Making the Best of Bed Rest / How I became an Insomniac...
« on: May 13, 2011 at 02:11 AM »
I became pregnant! ARGH!  :P

"Lay on your side, the circulation is better for the baby" (or babies in my case)... 20 minutes into laying on my side and my hip & shoulder aches, my hands are numb & tingling, and my neck feels like I'm pinching a nerve  :-[  Roll onto my back and then- I can't breathe due to baby parts in my lungs and contractions get worse...

"Use plenty of pillows for positioning"... One under my back, one in between my legs, 3-4 under my head/upper back, and 2 under my belly. Result= my hubby is in danger of SHDS (sudden husband death-by-asphyxiation syndrome) and I'm STILL not comfortable!  :-\

"Use a warm heating pad on your back for lower back pain"... What do I do about the hot flashes aggravated by this?!  >:(

"Pool time is great for pregnancy-induced sciatica"... Great, can someone build me a mote so I can float to the pool since I'm on bedrest and I'll have to walk to get there?! (I actually did this one today, where normally I have to use one noodle to float, I now require three to keep this womanly figure aloft. :-[ It actually did help with the sciatica, however the pressure and pain were SO much worse after I ambulated around getting to and from the pool! )

Seemingly appropriate quotes....

"If pregnancy were a book they would cut the last two chapters."

“Love is all fun and games until someone loses an eye or gets pregnant”

"Unless you are the one who put this baby in
here or the one who will take it out, you are
not allowed to touch my belly!"

All complaints aside.... My favorite quote:

"If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of god, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby, when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on it’s cradle."

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Appointment today
« on: May 06, 2011 at 04:55 PM »
I went for my (now weekly) fetal biophysical profiles, NST and measurements today (didn't see the doctor today). They scored well, are measuring around 33-35+ weeks instead of the 31 weeks I am. Weights were 4lbs & 4lbs 7 oz! Holy cow!!!!  :o At this rate I'm going to birth two 7lb-ers if I go to term! My cervix was 3cm today!!! YEA!  :D It was down to 1cm last Friday. I'm very encouraged by that! I was having contractions on the monitor, but they weren't painful so I'm waiting for a change in that direction before I worry too much about them. I feel very encouraged after today. Next week I have to start having NSTs and FBP weekly, along with a physician appointment. That's going to be interesting. It will have me driving between two hospitals and spending about 3-4hrs between the two, all in one day.  I am BEAT after today! It took them 2.5hrs to do the ultrasounds, measurements and monitoring & I didn't even see the doc!  :-\

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Just a suggestion

Wouldn't it be nice if pregnant women on bedrest were permitted a temporary handicap parking permit?!?!?!   ;D
