Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Deconditioning question.
« on: August 08, 2014 at 02:54 PM »
I did not have to lie flat on my back. I could use the bathroom and shower everyday. I was on bed rest for almost 100 days.

I am off the bed rest for 2 weeks now and it is harder than I thought. I have no strength. Walking a little bit makes me huff and puff.

I guess it is going to be a bit easier once the baby comes and time passes.

Almost 36 weeks here. Off from bed rest since 34 weeks. Will be stopping the aspirin and prometrium this week.

We are on a little vacation at the moment. 100 days of bed rest has definitely taken its toll on the body. It is hard to walk for more than few minutes. I am still trying to take it easy but trying to be as active as possible without pushing myself too much.

Thank you. I can tell you that I had it very easy, no contractions or bleeding. I am a bit scared now though as I do not know how to take it easy or how to start. I still have not done anything again today except getting ready :)

Finally off the bed rest. Had NST yesterday and it went well. Doctor said that I can be start to move more. Just don't go for 3 hour shopping trips :)

Finished 34 weeks. I cannot believe that I was on bed rest for almost 100 days. It was hard but we made it.

My cesarean is on August 28th.

Have you tried plums? I bought a huge bag from Costco and I put them in the water overnight and eat in the morning.

I actually have diabetes type II. I was diagnosed in 2006. But I take insulin just during the pregnancy, otherwise I keep my blood sugar in control with diet and exercise.

I will be having a planned Cesarean on August 28th. Not even ready to try for VBAC. I had quite a bit of trouble last time.

I was able to hold my daughter as soon as I got out of the OT though. My husband had her before that. I am surprised about your hospital though. Not many hospitals do that any more.

I started my bed rest on April 17th. I was 20 weeks that time.

Mind is much more at peace for sure at 34 weeks but I am really waiting to be 37 weeks. Then I can truly relax. Or I think so at this time. August 13th cant come soon enough.

Yey for the modified bed rest. You are almost 36 weeks. Few more days and everything will be fine. I sorry to hear about your daughter stomach bug. It sucks. My daughter never got sick in her first year, not even a cold. And then on 23rd December, a week before her birthday and a day before Christmas Eve, she got stomach flu. Sucked big time as it was her first Christmas.

NST went well. Doctor said that I can start moving a little bit more and I can stop the bed rest after this week. She is also ok if we take the vacation as well. I have another NST this Thursday as I will be having them every week now due to diabetes.

I am moving a bit more this week. But it has been a bit hard as my tummy muscles are not very strong at the moment. So, I had to take regular breaks and lie down. Keep reminding myself that I am still on bed rest, so no need to run around. Yesterday I was feeling much better. I did not lie down at all and no tummy ache. But of course, now I have swelling in my legs. Today I am planning to just take it easy and not do much.

How is your day going?

Almost 34 weeks. I had a NST and doctor's appointment on last Thursday. NST went well. My doctor gave me ok to start moving a little bit more now and stop the bed rest after this week. Also, ok for a mini vacation. So, we are happy.

My cesarean will be on 28th August.

I went to an ice-cream shop yesterday with my daughter and husband. My daughter was so happy for me to be there. She kept showing me how to do things and what is where. Like I have never been into that shop before. It was so funny. This year it is the first time that I have gone to the ice-cream place as I was put on the bed rest before the shop opened for the season.

Many new members on the forum!! Welcome to all!!

Happy birthday to your son Angela and to the forum!!

Hi Nicole,

Seems like your doctors are doing everything. You are in the 27th week, so it is a good sign that everything will be ok. Drink lots of water as dehydration may cause contractions and rest, rest, rest.

Best of luck!!

Congratulations!!

Maye make a list of activities you do around the house and the job and think about how strenuous you find them and then ask the doctor at the next appointment about the list.

My doctor told me to be a couch potato but when I started asking specific questions about specific activities, it turned out there was not much I was allowed to do.

Unfortunately there is no specific rule about the bed rest unless doctor has said something. In my case, I am supposed to be lying down most of the day.But I could use the bathroom and have a shower and sit down for dinner every night. After 24 weeks, I could go the restaurant once a week with my family. But no walking. My husband will drop me in front of the restaurant and I will just go inside and sit down.

At 31 weeks, I was allowed to cook dinner.

Now at 33 weeks, I am allowed to move a bit more and once I hit 34 weeks, I will be off the bed rest.

I would try to be off my feet as much as possible if I was you. Are you working outside the house?
