Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Twins are here!
« on: June 22, 2011 at 10:24 AM »
Thanks everyone! They are keeping us busy- constantly, and sleep is SO over with!!! But we love them so incredibly much. I'll be glad when Beckett starts to nurse and we get some sort of routine going. We go back today for  weight check and bilirubin check, then I go for a lactation consult. I can't believe how difficult it is with TWO of them! It makes having one a piece of cake.
We don't know technically if they are identical or not since they shared a placenta (which usually indicates identical), but they have TOTALLY different personalities and look different to us.

Congrats on your precious little ones! That's great they're off the ventilators already! Love your little ones & keep pumping that liquid gold. There's hardly a greater gift you can give them.  ;)

Hello everyone! Congrats to tully333 & jumama on their twins! I know they are excited to have their little ones, just as I am.  :D

We are home, Noah eats like a champ and is definitely the "momma's boy" out of the two. Beckett still won't latch, but we've gotten him to eat via syringe/finger feeding and I'm still working all day to get him latched. I can't believe the bedrest is over. I feel a huge weight (figuratively & literally  ;D) has been lifted off of me! We took the boys back to the pediatrician's office today to have their weights & bilirubin checked and they are stable for now. Beckett hasn't lost anymore weight since yesterday, so we go back on Wednesday to check again.

I can't believe the total sleep deprivation and sheer exhaustion we are experiencing right now (I got about 1.5hrs collectively of sleep last night), but honestly, it's so worth it. I would rather have two beautiful little boys being the cause of my insomnia than bedrest & pregnancy discomforts!
Thanks everyone for all the support, thoughts & prayers. This has all been worth it!

Good luck & God's blessing to all you still cooking. Hang in there, it will be worth it in the end, and what an adventure begins there!!!!  :D

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Twins are here!

Hello everyone!  ;D
Friday I delivered (induced) two healthy boys, Beckett & Noah. Beckett was born at 10:56 am, weighed 7lbs, 20" long, 9-10 apgars and Noah was born 11:30am 6lbs5oz, 20" long, 8-9 apgars.
I went really fast, in about 2.5hrs and barely had time for an epidural. I had only been hurting an hour when my nurse talked me into an epidural (she had a premonition I was going to go fast), I started out being 3-4cm and was 4cm after an hour and thought it was too soon to get the epidural. I am SO glad I did because after the epidural, I went from 5cm to 10cm in about 45 minutes. Beckett came out in 2-3 pushes, but Noah was a struggle. He was transverse/sideways & then face-up so he took a lot of manipulation to turn him and get him in the right position. He was in distress during all that moving, about 15-20 minutes of low heartrate. As much manipulation as it took, I would have ended up in surgery with a cesarean for him if I hadn't had the epidural to relax me & make all that painless. Listen to your nurses, sometimes they know! Thank God!!!!  :D

We're still in the hospital, unfortunately Beckett is losing weight and won't nurse or latch even onto a bottle. Please keep us in your prayers as we struggle to make him eat. I would like to go home today as an intact family!  :-\

Thanks for all the prayer, thoughts & support! I will post pics as soon as I get home.

threacatcher- I'm a hugger, but even I don't touch a pregnant woman's tummy (except when my job requires me too!), nor do I comment on how big someone is.

mom2Z- I've gotten that frequently too. People just assume if you're pregnant with twins you must have had fertility treatments, and again, for some reason they think it's their business to ask!  :-\  I've just gotten to where I spout out a bunch of answers before I'm asked.... "Yes, it's twins, no I'm not due yet, we don't know the sexes and we weren't even trying to get pregnant." Literally, I've spouted it out a few dozen times.... and it shuts people up.  ;)

How many of you have been asked if you were having twins? Ok, so I KNOW I am having twins, but as a total stranger, how is it appropriate to ask me that?! I actually was bigger with my daughter and don't remember anyone asking me that!

I was  told yesterday (again, total stranger) I have a "two-butt tummy".... what the heck is that supposed to mean?!  ???

Oh yeah, one girl-worker at Mcdonald's asked if my babies had the same father, because she had heard sometimes twins could have different baby's daddies....   ::)

I don't know what it is about pregnancy that removes social boundaries, but it can be frustrating.  :-\  Don't touch my belly if you don't know me or have my permission (& don't ASK to touch my belly)!!!!

Since I've been off strict bedrest, I've been out more and have been accosted by complete strangers nearly every time I've been out! My husband thinks it's funny. I, however, am hot, moody, volatile & ready to not stand out like a clown in a crowd!

flowerchica- Wow... I'm so sorry! What a terrible experience!  :P
The light's getting closer though! You're almost there!!!

babygmom- The travel systems are the absolute best. The convenience of having a carrier/carseat that buckles into a base in the car, with a one-handed release which also buckles straight into the stroller (again, with a one-handed release) is irreplaceable. You don't have to wake up the baby to transition from the carseat to the stroller. Gracco and Chicco have the highest ratings, I believe I got Chicco. I bought my stroller (double stroller) off of Craigs list to save money.

babygmom- It's much more exciting this way. Be prepared tho, I keep getting asked if I've found out the sexes, by people who KNOW we don't want to know!!!  :-\
