Making the Best of Bed Rest / Sydney is here!
« on: July 06, 2011 at 09:56 PM »
Thought I'd check in and remind everyone that bedrest works and is worth it! Of course there is still some speculation that it's hard to tell how effective it is on a clinical level and I"ll never know, but at least i do think knowing you're doing something to help the baby even if it's somewhat uncertain, is helpful when baby ends up being on time and healthy-

our baby girl Sydney was born last Saturday the 2nd, I was at 39 weeks and 3 days. I had been on bedrest for 8 weeks from week 27 till 35, for short cervix and a positive ffn test. Also started dilating at 29 weeks. So baby ended up going all the way pretty much! I had actually kept dilating slowly, and by the time my water broke that night and we went to the hospital, we got there just in time because I was at 10 and ready to push! I was only in the room for 30 min and she was out (it's my second baby). She is healthy as can be.

I feel so much better- and an another note I'm so glad that I got back to being somewhat active after the restrictions were lifted- I went back to work, taking care of my toddler, cleaning the house, getting baby stuff ready, going to yoga. It was hard cause I was so tired at first, but I think all this helped me to get my strength back so I was able to push the baby out! Keep it going ladies and good luck to everyone!

Sydney Diane, 8 lbs 5 oz 20 in, born at 39+3 weeks Apgars 9 and 9
I'm posting a photo, hope it works! Well, tried to do the photo but it's not working either in this post, or as part of my profile....trying to repost....

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Monday Roll Call for June 27
« on: June 27, 2011 at 03:32 PM »
My goodness, I am still cookin at 38+5 weeks which is so strange, because for so long I've been wondering if she'll come early now I'm wondering if she'll come late.....I've been off bedrest for 3 weeks and have been doing a lot. Working, taking care of my toddler, cleaning the house. Having tons of contractions some are painful, but nothing regular. So it will be interesting to see what really happens now! I am going to have my doc check me at my appt this week (I was 3 cm dilated since week 34). The baby is not moving a whole lot anymore, and I'm just really uncomfortable now.
So neat to hear about all the babies born recently! To all who are new here and still cookin hang in there it is worth it!

Congrats mcCoy!!!!! wow, you made it sooo far what a long haul! That is so awesome that you were able to have a vaginal twin birth! They are adorable! Are they fraternal or identical? I love the pic you put up on the check in post.
Keep up the hard and tiring work on breastfeeding and keep us posted!

Congrats to all the new twins! wow, so exciting!

I will be 38 weeks tomorrow! Can't believe it- after being on bedrest for 8 weeks from week 27 to 35 for short cervix. Now I am doing a lot and it seems to be ok, so strange! Although, I am having tons of contractions getting more painful so it's still going to be really hard to tell if/when something is serious!
I have been back at work for a couple weeks, just doing computer work. I am trying to get the baby stuff ready at home. I am doing more with my toddler which is very tiring!
I think maybe the baby dropped or something- I don't know but my tummy seems smaller or different somehow and 2 people have remarked how I'm not getting any bigger any more? What does this mean....Hopefully is ok?
I have an appointment this afternoon so we'll see if anything comes from that!

Adorable! Yup, I don't know how I'm going to be able to take care of a newborn (and 2.5 yr old) after being on bedrest and now being soooo weak and tired! It definitely won't ease up for quite a while so i hear ya!

I'm here still, will be at 36 weeks tomorrow! Wow, can't believe i made it this far too (bedrest from week 27 for short cervix) and sounds like a lot of you are around the same point- how interesting to be 8 weeks on bedrest and now all of a sudden.....what to do- well i spent week 35 trying to do more around home (actually at my parents' where i was staying) to build up my stamina but it didn't work so well. then i went back to work last Thursday and moved home to be with husband and toddler on the weekend. it's now my 4th day back at work and i'm not sure what to do- i want to be back here and be productive, but yesterday i had a really hard day sitting up the whole time and had TONS of contractions and pain in the cervix. not sure what's going on. i'm soooo weak and tired, everything wears me out.
now i sort of wish i had been able to be home by myself for a while, to get the house ready for baby, because it's a mess and i don't have anything organized or cleaned or my bag packed- and when i get home from work i have NO energy to work on it....
also i think the baby turned back to breech. she's doing strange movements and i feel a hard head like thing up at the top...my first baby was breech and i had to have a version to turn him (thankfully it worked) but i was really hoping to avoid that this time on top of everything else. but, i have an appt this afternoon with my OB so hopefully i'll get him to look at the u/s to know for sure.
so glad to hear of everyone else's stories this past week!

Preterm Labor: Anything and Everything / Re: Repeat Steroid Dose?
« on: June 05, 2011 at 05:32 PM »
My doctor also did not recommend the repeat dose. i got a round (2 shots) of the steroid at 27 weeks for short cervix AND positive fFn. when i started to dilate at 29 weeks and got admitted they still didn't do a repeat dose or anything. i'm at 35.5 weeks now and still cookin and even if the baby comes early still he won't give me any more steroids even though it's been so long since i had them. i think the one dose is supposed to be good enough.

i have the same situation as you- my doc at 34 weeks pretty much said ok at this point we won't stop labor and you can start doing regular things. it freaked me out too, still seemed so early. but i also wanted to have a few weeks of "normalcy" before having the baby and doing that next adventure. so i decided to take a week to start doing one or 2 things a day like going out for a facial, but still having my family take care of my toddler. i got the doc to sign a thing saying i didn't have to go back to work till i was at 35 weeks because i just did not feel ready physically or psychologically. so i've had 2 days of work so far- the first one back was miserable but the second day was easier. i am doing more with my son now too. but yeah, i'm hoping to keep going another couple weeks (i'm at 35.4 now)- just do what you feel you can do but yes breaks are really important. i just got back from an outing with my son and my dad and i have to lie down now for a couple hours for sure. it's crazy and frustrating how bedrest really screws up the body!
