Making the Best of Bed Rest / Madeleine Anne
« on: September 07, 2013 at 04:58 PM »
My bed rest baby Madeleine was born at 5:21 am on September 4 at 36w6d after 14 weeks of bed rest. My water broke at 2:15 am. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to tell if that happened because of my cerclage, but I shouldn't have worried! There was no missing it! Maddie was breech so the doctor performed an emergency c-section. We had been to an appointment with my OB on the 3rd and we were waiting for the date of a scheduled section. I guess Maddie did not want to wait! She spent 6 hours in the NICU because she had low blood sugar due to my gestational diabetes, but her glucose level came up by the second test so most of time they were just monitoring her to be sure. Her daddy was with her the whole time because I had to stay in recovery. Now we are all home together and she is healthy and happy. We took down our bed rest calendar today, the one that helped keep me and DH focused and motivated throughout the bed rest. Best wishes to all the mamas on the hard bed rest path.

Lvmissesd, the decreased pressure on your cervix is good news for sure. Baby still has time to flip over, which hopefully he will do! Let us know what your perinatologist says about your fundal height.

I am at 35w5d today and my OB took me off bed rest last week! Hurray! After 14 weeks of only getting up to go the bathroom and the doctor, I can't exactly jump back into my old routine, but I am slowly building up my strength. We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow where we will find out whether I need a c-section as my LO has been breech for weeks. If she has flipped over, then my doctor will remove my cerclage tomorrow and we will plan for vaginal delivery. If not, the cerclage stays and we will book a c-section. I am nervous, but things are so much better than they were a couple of months ago.

Congrats to all the mamas still cooking. Hang in there, ladies. Lvmissesd, hope your appointment goes well today. Kitekat, best wishes for tomorrow! So exciting!

Oh my goodness, that must have been so scary. I am so glad to hear that the bleeding stopped and has not started again. A roller coaster is right! I am sure it will be a comfort to have your family with you this weekend.

Maria, I am so sorry you are going through such a tremendously challenging time. It must be quite a relief to be able to be at home, but so hard to have the stress of a potential second bleed hanging over your head. I hope you are able to find some comfort in the support you are receiving. My thoughts are with you. Hang in there.

My IC was found at 20w5d and an emergency cerclage was placed at 21 weeks. I have been on bed rest since then and my stitch has held strong, though I have been funnelled to the stitch basically the whole time. Today I am at 34w3d and will be having the cerclage removed at 36 w. I agree with megdspilman that it is nerve wracking, especially those initial weeks before 24w, but listen to your doctors and hang in there.

Kitekat, I am so sorry that you are faced with this difficult situation. I can see why you would be both sad and frustrated. At least you can be confident that your doctors are taking good care of you and your baby, even if this means hospitalization and a c-section. It is not selfish to have wanted to live a bit of normal life before delivering -- that's a very reasonable thing to have hoped for! Hopefully being aware of the mental and emotional challenges will help you tackle them head-on and get the support that you need so that you can recover both physically and mentally. Sending lots of positive thoughts and good wishes your way.

Amy, congratulations on the (full-term!!!) birth of your baby girl! That's wonderful news!

Lvmissesd, I'm so sorry for your loss and for the added challenge of being on bed rest at this time. Remember that you are making progress every day and doing such an important job for your little one. It's great that you've made it to almost 28 weeks. Hang in there.

Ottawa33, congrats on 37 weeks! I hope you are able to get your strength and stamina back quickly. (Hoping that for all of us!)

Kitekat, congrats on the last week of bed rest! I am sorry to hear about your little girl's small size and your upcoming c-section. Sending positive thoughts your way; hopefully you will have good news at your appointment.

Wow, Andi-pants, 38 weeks! Fingers crossed for a healthy baby for you soon!

Bubblegirl, congrats on baby #3!

Welcome, twin mamas!

As for me, I have reached 33 weeks, which was the goal DH and I set when I was first hospitalized for an emergency cerclage at 21 weeks. Next appointment is next Tuesday, when we'll find out the exact date for cerclage removal (and end of bed rest!). I am so excited. Our LO is doing well, kicking lots, but still breech. I'm hoping she'll turn before our appointment.

Have a great week, mamas!

Congratulations, ladies, on hitting those milestones! 36 weeks and 34 weeks are great points to be at. I am at 32 weeks, 4 days, and I am really looking forward to 34 and then 36 weeks. I am counting the days until I am off bed rest! I am planning to go out to dinner with my husband too, and I am super excited just to go for a walk. :) My OB has allowed me to reintroduce some standing activity, which is great and yet makes me nervous. My next appointment is tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it because we are going to have an ultrasound, our first one in six weeks. Apparently, they are not going to check my cervix length, just the baby's measurements. It's also my husband's birthday tomorrow and I managed to smuggle a gift into the house for him via my sister. It will be fun to surprise him.

As for shows, I've been watching episodes of Income Property and Property Virgins online ( I've also been watching Bones on Netflix and this great British show called River Cottage (sadly, it's not on Netflix).

Have a great week, everyone!

Kitekat, I'm so sorry to hear you had such a rough day. Bed rest just wears you down with the crazy mix of emotions. I have a lot of respect and sympathy for you mums on bed rest with other kids at home. You are getting close to your goal and you are doing the best that you can in a difficult situation. Hang in there! Hope all goes well at your appointment on Thursday.

30w 6d today, excited for 31 weeks tomorrow. Good doctor's appointment yesterday (I was waiting for that to post) but my doctor says they are not going to check my cervix anymore unless it seems like I might be going into labour. Eek. I had been expecting a CL measurement at my ultrasound in two weeks but as DH says, we can just focus on the baby at that appointment. I still would have liked the reassurance though, as I have been funnelling to the stitch for weeks. My doctor did authorize me to spend some time sitting up each day now and I will be allowed to reintroduce some standing starting at 32 weeks (next Thursday), which is both exciting and scary.

As for a beauty routine, I do make an effort to get dressed every day, but just in comfy clothes. I don't wear makeup but I do fix my hair as best I can. It helps a bit with morale. :)

Mrs.B, congrats on your 35 weeks, that's wonderful. Amy, that sounds like a really harrowing experience. Hang in there.

Congrats to all you mamas who are still keeping those babies cooking. Lvmissesd, 24 weeks is a big step. Good for you.

29 weeks and 4 days. I like the music idea. I think I'm going to try listening to my workout playlists from before bed rest to inspire me. Could be helpful actually, since I'm starting to feel quite lethargic and I could use a boost!

Andi-pants, congrats on making it so far! Only 2 more weeks of bed rest! That's fantastic.

lvmissesd, I like the ring chain idea. We do something similar, crossing days off a wall chart. The chain would be fun because you could see it shrinking.
