Hi Natasha,

Sorry you are going through such a hard time.

Reasons behind pre-term labor are largely unknown. As they do not know what causes it, doctors cannot be sure of the treatment. Bed rest may help and may not help.

Short cervix, on the other hand, is a different issue. Bed rest, to a point, will decrease the weight forced upon the cervix which may help further shortening and funnelling.

I had my daughter in 2010, full term. Today I am 37 years old, 33 weeks pregnant with short cervix. At 20 week ultrasound, I was diagnosed with short cervix and asked to be on bed rest. I had few more ultrasounds to check the length. It varied between 1.7-2.1 cm at 20-21 weeks when it is suspposed to be 4-5 cm.

I have been on bed rest since. I did not have any contractions or bleeding. Today marks the 3 month completion of bed rest for me.

I cannot offer any medical advice though but please try to take it easy. Drink lots of water. Dehydration can cause contractions.

Nothing is 100% sure. All pregnant women are at risk of pre-term labor. Most women who experience pre-term labor go to deliver full-term. My doctor said about the short cervix is not a good measure of pre-term labor. It increases the risk for sure but it is not guaranteed that the woman with short cervix will deliver early.

Check with your doctor about the length of the cervix. Are you still on progesterone?

Do keep us updated. Best of luck!!

Sorry, no idea here. I never had one. May be other lovely ladies can help you out on this one.

Almost 33 weeks here. Hoping to be off the bed rest this Thursday. Most probably we will have the cesarean date also this time.

Hi all,

Think this may be my last Monday roll call! My protein level is now through the roof at 15 grams ( not meant to be over 0.3! ) and I am on the maximum dose of four types of blood pressure medication. For some reason my blood results are still ok ish and baby is doing well but the docs are starting to worry about lasting kidney damage etc so we have been booked in for a c-section on Wed! I am obviously worried about baby being delivered at 31+6 but after four weeks of hospital bed rest I am ready to move onto the next stage of this journey! I'm also feeling pretty grotty with all the meds etc- not sure how much more my body can take!

Hope you're all having a good week- has been great to know I'm not going through this alone! Xx

Best of luck for tomorrow!! Everything will turn out well.

Congratulations on 34 weeks. You are almost there. Last few weeks have been scary and frustrating for all of us.

I will have the NST this Thursday. Also have to see the doctor. Hopefully I will be off bed rest.

How is your daughter doing? Is she excited to have a sibling?

He looks adorable. Congratulations!!

It went well. Everything seems to be normal. Baby's estimated weight is 1800g making, which is average for 32 weeks. Cervix is still closed and is in between 2 and 2.5 cm.

I have another appointment next Thursday. Hopefully I will be off the bed rest. And we can go somewhere for vacation. I so could use a change in the scenery.

I wanted to ask you if you had pain in the belly while on bed rest. I do not feel pressure or anything but it is hard to stand for sometime as the bottom part of the belly is a bit painful. I am guessing it could be because I lost quite a bit of muscle tone. Pain is only on the outside, not inside.

That's great!! As long as the cervix stays closed, all is well. I have an ultrasound today. Let's see how is the baby doing.

Hi Linda,

Good to hear that Oliver is doing great. He is a champion. How much he weighs now?

It was exciting :) Now my husband has the fever of painting the whole upstairs by himself, so we will be using baby's room to empty other rooms.

Congratulations on hitting the 30 week mark. I felt that going from 29 to 30 week was the longest week ever. After 30 weeks, time is passing rather quickly.

How are you holding up to the hospital rest?

Almost 32 weeks here too. Had a busy last week, so hoping to rest a lot this week.

I had an appointment last Thursday and my doctor gave me ok to cook dinner. She is very pleased with the way pregnancy is going. Starting from 33 weeks, I will have NST every week till the end. I will also have the cesarean date on the next appointment.

This Friday I have an ultrasound. It would be nice to see how the baby is doing.

Happy cooking to everyone!!

I am doing ok. Had an appointment today. I can cook now, so the strict bed rest is over. Will have an ultrasound next week. Starting NST from 33 weeks, every week. So, it will be fun to go to the hospital every week. We will be setting a date for the cesarean on 17th July. So, everything seems to be going ok.

I am not sure about the dilation with cerclage but I think for that to happen, there will be some bleeding as the cerclage will give up. Did you call your doctor? For sure, it is less scary to have contractions now. 2 more weeks and you will be 34 weeks and the mind will be more at ease.

Thanks Andi. It really helps a lot. I will definitely start walking as soon as I am off the bed rest and take on the meal preparation job, but I think that would be it before the baby is born.

You are doing great for the weight and fitness. Thanks for sharing.

How it is going now?

I hope you are resting now and the contractions have stopped. Post when you can.
