What's Your Story? Tell us. / Freedom after 17 weeks of Bed rest
« on: January 27, 2012 at 11:14 AM »
I have finally been released from bed rest with orders to take it easy.   :) I began my bed rest journey at 18 weeks due to placenta previa with bleeding and then some other placenta issues.  By the time they resolved I began having issues with preterm labor and had a couple more hospital stays with a stricter bed rest.
I finished my last dose of procardia on Wednesday and have two more doses of p-17 (one today).  I am 35 weeks and have surpassed some of the on call doctors projected outcome.  My doctor is still hopeful that I make it to at least 37 weeks.
Today I've started having lots of contractions although they are not "regular", so I guess I need to slow down and put my feet back up for a while.  Part of me would love to have my sweet little baby right now, but I know it would be better to make it further.

Keep cooking moms!  There is an end in sight.

Congratulations!  It's great to hear that they had to spend a minimal amount of time in the NICU.  Glad to hear they are home with you and doing so well.   ;D

Welcome lammy!
I have a similar story.  I knew I would have a high risk pregnancy due to my previous miscarriages and then delivering my son unexpectedly at 34 weeks.  At 18 weeks we found out I had placenta previa.  They would schedule a c-section for around 36 weeks and like you- I've never made it that far.  I know what you mean when you say you feel like a ticking time bomb.  It really is scary not knowing when something could happen.  I've read quite a bit about the vasa previa.  It was always listed with the placenta previa and at one point there was something seen that could have been vasa previa.  Thankfully, my last few scans have showed that my placenta issues have resolved and there was never vasa previa.
I don't have the right words to say to make you feel better, but It sounds like you have a good team looking after you and your baby.  Going in every week to be checked out and being put in the hospital at 28 weeks to be monitored even closer.  You will have a tough road ahead, but you can do it.  Take it a day/week at a time and use this forum to help you work though what ever you need to.  I wish you the best of luck with your situation!

The good news is that you have made it past the magic 24 week mark and you are so close to the next big stage- 28 weeks.  I would like to say that the fear and anxiety go away once you reach a certain point, but for me- that is not the case.  (I'm 35 weeks and still worry over everything and probably will until I deliver and get to hold my little one and take him/her home)
If you are not ready to start making a list or getting baby gear yet- then don't.  Let your friends and family know that you just aren't ready yet.  They should understand.  When you do feel like your ready, then you can go crazy with the shopping.  Even though you said you can't buy online- you could still look at the different items and pick out what you like and make a baby registry.  A lot of the places have lists that you can download.   Start with your basics!  Bedding, feeding, and travel.

35 weeks tomorrow!
My doctor let me "go out" to dinner for my birthday, so that was a special treat   ;)  I go to the doctor's again this Wednesday and I am pretty sure I will be given the "okay" to be off bed rest  ;D  I am currently in my 18th week of bed rest, so I can't wait!

AngelLily,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time right now.  I'm really surprised the dr sent you home in the first place... although I guess if you stopped dilating then you're not technically in labor any more, but still.  I think if it were me, I'd go back to the hospital.  With the contractions being that strong and that often...  Good luck to you and the baby.  It sounds like your little one will be here very soon!

Jen, welcome to the forum.  It sounds like you are doing everything you are able to...  (procardia, progesterin, and bed rest)  Having another child always makes bed rest a challenge.  The good news is that you do have some help with your mother and a 2.5 year old can do a lot of things on their own.  It sounds like you made it past your last delivery g age which is another plus.  Stay down as much as your able to, that's all you can do  ;)

34 weeks tomorrow.  This is when I delivered my son three years ago- so I'm hoping everything stays calm like it has been.  I've stayed nice and steady for the last three weeks at 1cm dilated.  I had another ffn test done last week, so I'm curious to find out what it was.  (MY last one was positive).  I have another appointment this week to look forward to.  I'm hoping I can talk my doctor into letting me go out to dinner for my birthday  :)

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Baby Shower Question
« on: January 11, 2012 at 04:42 PM »
I agree with several of the other comments.  You have to decide when you are ready to take that leap and begin getting ready.  As far as 34 weeks being to early?  No, I don't think so.  I personally would have it even earlier.  With my first baby, I had my baby shower around 28 weeks so that I could have everything ready for when he arrived.  I had just enough time too, because I delivered early (PTL) at 34 weeks.

I would talk to your family or friends about having a baby shower.  They could help you decide when a good time would be and help with back-up plans: just in case.

Don't give up!  You can do it.
