Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Monday Roll Call for January 23
« on: January 23, 2012 at 12:07 PM »
Bryce Flynn McGee arrived Thursday night at 9:01 pm in our 15th visit to L&D 35 weeks and 1 day after 10.5 weeks of bedrest for PTL.  He was 5 lbs 14 oz and 19.5 inches long.  We fought for every day, hour, and second and he decided it was time to come, and in quite a dramatic fashion I might add...that took a few years off my life for sure.  He is currently in the NICU making fantastic progress.  He's been breathing unsupported since Saturday (what he was getting was to dry his lungs rather than help him breath), billy levels continue to be normal, he's eating 30ml each feed from the bottle, are not supplimenting into his feeding tube, dressed, getting the hang of the body temp thing, and has yet to set off a single alarm.

We have been running into the many Dr's who have treated us during this journey and they have all said we made it so much farther than they thought we would.  I attribute that to the bedrest, faith, positive attitude, and the amazing support I have recieved from you amazing women over the last 10 weeks, there was no way we could have gotten this far without your thoughts, prayers, and support.

Love and support are with everyone still cooking!  Hang in there I know how tough this is but have to say the second I held him it made every second worth it.  I know he will be home in my arms soon.  Remember we are giving weeks for them to have a lifetime!

Taya,

Thanks, I'm holding up well and recovery wise am fantastic better than my other two by far...guess I earned it ;).  He's doing so well and its just hard not having him here.  I've been allowing myself to cry when I want/need/comes at me out of nowhere.  He'll be home soon, he seems to be just as stubborn has his mommy :).

Update:  Bryce is doing well, they are getting him off the oxygen slowly and he's feeding/digestig well.  Jaundice has started to develop and he will be moved into a new  isolette with the lights.  However it is an upgrade as he seems to be maintaining his temps.  I may even get to hold him soon while they get the new bed ready.  I am hoping my OB keeps me one more day so I can stay close, but the hospital is just crazy right now and they may need the room.  But our delivery was very traumatic on both of us so I may get it.  She kept me an extra day with our first son so I wouldn't have to leave him, but I doubt he comes home so quickly.

DH just got back from taking his parents up to see him.  I stayed down in the room with our other kids, they are't allowed in the unit at all becuase its RSV season.  Just waiting for a few more test results but so far what is back looks great.  Respitory wise he's fantastic, becuase he basically flew out his lungs were a little wet so he's gettting some O2 to help with that.  The feeding tube is in and they won't try to feed until all the results come back.  I think its because he's doing so well he keeps getting put on the back burner and things are taking longer.  His neighbor is a 1lb 10oz little girl (twins).  She's not doing well and seems to be taking a condiserable amount of time from all of the nurses.  So as much as I want him to be #1, she needs them more.  Hoping to get to hold him sometime today.

From my earlier post many of you saw this was coming.  Bryce as born last night in quite the dramatic fashion at 9:01 pm 5lbs 14 oz after 10.5 weeks of bedrest.  Though in the NICU he is going great and we are still hopeful he may get to join us down here.  Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers thru this process, I couldn't have made it this far without all you wonderful, amazing, women.  I will keep you posted and hang in there!

I'm 35w 1d (I really think we are farther thought).  We've been down for nearly 11 weeks now with PTL and wound up in L&D for the 14th time yesterday.  We were worried I was dehydrated and was having some good contractions.  They hooked us up to a monitor and we're going strong, they checked me and I was at 2.5 60% effaced...we had only been a fingertip the day before at our OB's office.  Let me sit an hour and checked again.  We'd moved to a 3 and 70%.  Again another hour.  We were a 3 and some 80%.  Due to my positive group b step they started getting the antibiotics on board.  After I was hooked up they said it looked like we'd have a baby today and gave me an Ambien to get some sleep.  I went over 8 hours wihout getting checked overnight and wiating for the shift change at the hospital.  Found out this morning I'd made no progress since last night and watched another 2 hours and checked one last time.  Again no change and sent me home.  They won't stop me and said not to do anything to encourage things along either, ie go get back in bed.

So we are home now and I am still contracting every 5 minutes give or take with STRONG, painful contractions.  I have a lot of bloody mucus from all the checks (that alone is freaking me out).  SInce I"m not supposed to walk around I can only rock for pain relief.  I have no idea whe to go back in at this point, my OB"s nurse (OB out of town until tomorrow) said 5 minutes lasting over a minute and about to call the hospital to see what they say. I know if my water finally goes then its a no brainer.

I am so torn right now, I am so tired and in so much pain I just want to be done and part of me is just praying for my water to finally give.  But found out last night that no matter what he'll go to the NICU for testing, I won't even get to hold him...I had been told 34 was the magic number to avoid that.  I want what's best but thought they would at least wait to see before taking him.  I just don't think there is any way I can physically do this for a week.  Due to the contractions I can't eat or sleep and that's never a good combo.

Can anyone offer words of advice, anyone been in this situation, and if so how long did you last.

Welcome, I totally undertand how difficult bedrest can be with kids.  I have 2, a 4 year old girl and 19 month old boy.  I have been down since 25 weeks and will be celebrating 35 tomorrow.  I am down due to contractions as well and delivered my second at 36 w 4 d.  I was told to expect him any day now based on that alone.

Glad you have the support of you mom and grandma, but I do know they have their own lives as well, something we have struggled with from the beginning here with our family.  My husband works and we are trying desperately to save his vacation for when little man comes.  We've gotten thru the last 10 weeks thanks to a lot of Nick Jr., Disney Channel, and Netflix.  I basically have their shows on all day while they play.  I do have to get up to change diapers and feed them.  DH sets what I"ll need out for the day.  IE bottles, sippy cups, snacks, and lunches if possible.  We read books and can play catch from where I am on the couch.  I have coloring books in a basket next to me.  For lunch, if things are really going south, I'll call for little personal pan pizza's.  Kids love it.

If possible ask for help from your church or friends, we've been getting meals twice a week from them and that really helps.  Hang in there, you really are close.  Something I've been telling myself from the beginning that we are giving weeks for them to have a lifetime.

35 weeks and still going!  Made trip 13 to L&D last week when I though he was coming, but they were able to slow them down and confirmed I'd stayed dialated to a fingertip and sent us home.  But we are officially on baby watch as my OB said 35/36 due to my previous history of early deliveries.  Still have to stay down and see our PA tomorrow for a check.  So ready to meet litle man here and like others have mentioned ready for my life to be out of this holding pattern its in.  Also terrified as the first real snow storm is moving in...people around here forget how to drive in snow and it takes a few days to remember...meaning for the first one traffic is a mess...absolute mess.  Hoping he either comes before or after the storm hits.

Hang in there everyone!  We were told multiple times that it would be a miracle to make it to 30 and have gone 5 weeks past that.

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Baby Shower Question
« on: January 10, 2012 at 09:34 PM »
I am hoping to get a shower, even registered, my OB suggested doing one to help pass the time.  I"ve been down since 25 weeks and will most likely be kept down until my body gives out.  It have PTL due to excess fluid (has a fancy name that I can't remember right now) but I basically have enough fluid for 3 pregnant women.  That on top of an already irritated uterus and very active baby are a bad combo.  We are 34 weeks today.  But I don't think anyone knows what to do with me shower wise.  There are gals a church that do everyone's shower.  No one has called or approached DH about one.  I suspect if I get one it will be after little man comes.  If I were to have one right now everyone would have to come here and I would worry about the house getting clean, food prepared, and all that fun stuff.  I had my shower for my first at 36 weeks, have it whenever you want :).  I like having time after it to sort thru the presents, do thank you cards, decide what needs to be returned/exchanged, and see what we still need.  If you have it a little early you have the time to take care of all that...or DH to take care of it :).
I am lucky since this one is my third and we're having our second boy so I already have a lot of the stuff we need.  What I do need I have DH pick up a little bit at a time or get it online.  I'm also looking forward to going and getting it after he comes...its going to take a lot to keep me from running around like a crazy person when I get let up.

This is going to sound awful but there are things I don't miss about being public pregnant.  Yes, i would desperately love a trip to Target but I've worked in retail for 14 years and thru both of my other pregnancies.  I hated it when customers and complete strangers would come up and rub my belly, share thier nightmare birthing experiences, the OB was wrong about the sex, and my personal favorite how huge I was...seriously had a little old lady tell me at 15 weeks i must be about to go any day.  I am huge this pregnancy due to the huge amount of excess fluid, its actually the major cause of my ptl.  My sweet co workers made me a shirt with my first that had the names we were thinking about, sex, that it was my first, and a girl.  They said they almost made one that said don't touch my stomach.

Don't worry what you are missing now is nothing like what you get when you take your little man out with you after he comes.  Trust me no such thing as a quick trip in for milk.

As for the low feeling I've had that the entire time, I swear he was going to fall out on me some days.  If it feels like pressure or is uncomfortable call your OB.

34 weeks and feel the end is near.  Maybe, just maybe will get off of bedrest next week.  Due to my last pregnacy she thought 35/36 from the beginning.  We did have to make a trip to L&D last week, number 12, due to contractions and bleeding.  Turns out I lost my plug and a shot of terb got everything back under control.  Today fighting a lower back ache and that feeling that something is going to happen.  Would still like more time but am incredibly grateful and blessed to have made it this far and don't think they'd stop me at this point.  Hang in there everyone.

Angela, thanks so much for everything you do.  I don't know what I would have done without it in those first few weeks...and even now.

Welcome, and congrats.  I've been down since 25 and am now almost 34.  I'm only on neph every 4-5 hours for contraction control and it does a number on me most of the time.  Even on it we've been to L&D 12 times to get contractions under control and get checked.  Hang in there.  The bedrest does work.  I know how you feel with the potty thing but dehydration can get things going for me and holding it can do the same thing as well...my uterus is really touchy.  Listen to your doctor and don't think about the 11 weeks, break it up into smaller milestones.  There are days I take it hour by hour.  Good luck, the ladies on here have just been heaven sent for me.
