Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Monday Roll Call for May 14
« on: May 14, 2012 at 09:58 PM »
Hello ladies, 28w3d today, which means we made it to our first goal of 28 weeks! Now looking forward to 30! This week I am heading into my 11th week on bedrest. They are suprisingly passing by pretty quickly. At my appt last week my cervix was measuring at 1.9, which is down a little from 2.1. But, I have a cerclage and it is holding up very well. Baby is doing awesome, measuring up exactly as she should.  ;D God is definitely on our side throughout this pregnancy. I have my weekly checkup tomorrow. Hoping to get another positive FFN. Hope everyone is doing well this week, Keep Em' Cookin' ladies!  :D

hello heather ! i'm glad to hear that you have made it to almost 25 weeks. i too had a cerclage. i had mine at 18 weeks when my cervix was about 2.1. i had an appt yesterday and it was measuring 1.9, a little shorter than it was so she put me on a round of indocine (sp?). i have also been on the progesterone shots and had a round of steroid shots at 26 weeks ! it has been 10 weeks since the cerclage (i will be 28 weeks tomorrow). my doc has had me on strict bedrest. i am on my feet every morning about 20 minutes or so because i have to help my 6 year old get ready for school. (tomorrow is his last day so i won't have to worry about anymore that after then.) for the rest of the day i get up a few times just to get food/drink or go to bathroom. sometimes while i am up i will do a few quick things like look thru the mail or something. and i bathe every other day now. i was bathing everyday but i switched to every other day last week. even tho your doc says you can be on modified bedrest, if you feel that you are doing too much then you can always cut back. you know your body better than anyone so if you feel that you are pushing yourself then go ahead and rest up more. you will need lots of reserve energy when the baby comes ! you said you are hopeful to make it to 37 weeks so continue to stay positive ! i am also faithful that i will make it full term. let us know how you are doing after your next checkup !

that is awesome !  :) you made it a very long way on bedrest ! i will be praying that you have a healthy delivery and a healthy baby ! i have been on bedrest for 10 weeks now and will be 28 weeks tomorrow (which is our first goal, yay!). i soo hope that i can make it as far as you have. you are definite proof that bedrest WORKS !! good luck with the new baby !

Still cookin, Wednesday will be 10 weeks on bedrest and Friday I will be 28 weeks along! Not much planned this week other than my appointment with my specialist on Wednesday. My oldest graduates from Kindergarten next Monday so at my Wednesday appointment I'm gonna ask my doc if she thinks its ok for me to attend the graduation. I'm sure it won't last more than an hour and I will be sitting the whole time so hopefully she says yes. It will kill me to miss it! I'm a stay at home mom and normally I'm at school all of the time substituting and helping out. I miss all the kiddos !! I'm also looking forward to Sunday, my family is getting together to bbq for Mother's Day. We always have a good time together. Won't be able to help out with the cooking this year but my mom and sister are doing all of the side dishes and the men will BBQ. Yummy, they are all excellent cooks! Hope everyone has a good week and a Happy Mother's Day !!  ;D

While my situation is different from you and your wife's, I do know the stresses of pregnancy complications. With my first, I went into labor at 28 weeks (dialated to 2 cm) but was hospitalized and was able to hold him until 35 weeks on bedrest. With my second, my water broke at 30 weeks and we had to deliver that evening. This third pregnancy, I had a cerclage at 18 weeks. My cervix at that time measured around 2.2 cm. I have been on bedrest almost 10 weeks now  and am praying for a possible 10 more. I will be keeping you, your wife, and the girls in my prayers. Stay strong !

I have never had a real contraction. My first pregnancy, everything was going fine then at my 28 week checkup, my doc told me I was dialated to 2cm. I told him that a couple of days before that, it felt like the baby was getting into a tight ball, but that it didn't hurt. He said that was probably a contraction. I thought they hurt? At least that is what I have seen on TLC's Baby Story ! I ended up holding him for 7 more weeks on bedrest and delivered a healthy baby boy via c-section at 35 weeks. Then on my second pregnancy, again everything went fine until 30 weeks when my water broke (the morning of my baby shower, how convenient !). We had to deliever that evening, again via c-section. He was in the NICU for a little over a month but had no serious problems, thank God. Then with this third pregnancy, I had a cerclage at 18 weeks and have been on bedrest since. I'm now 27w2d. I'm not having contractions but I know that it's possible for me to maybe have some at some point. So I'm wondering what do they feel like ? Do the "early on" contractions feel like the baby is balling up real tight? And then is it like horrible period cramps and shooting pain? I know sometimes you can feel it in your back. Is it the same feeling with that? Sorry I kinda went on ! Thanks for the help !  ;)

Im in the same boat as you are ! my son just turned 2. im a stay at home mom so i had planned to do my best to potty train him before the baby came, so we wouldnt have two in diapers for very long! well now that im in bedrest, i cant exactly do that. my father is retired so he keeps will during the day until my hubby is home from work. so, my dad has been making him wear pull ups and sitting him on the potty chair. he uses it often but he doesnt normally say when he has to go. you just have to go sit him on it. for the time being we arent being very strict with it. after the baby comes and things get back to normal, i will start to really work with him. if i were you, i would not worry about it at all! 21 months is a good age to begin introducing them but if she isnt all that interested right now, no biggie. it will come i promise! i have a 6 yr old and i slowly introduced him to it and all of a sudden one day it just clicked for him and he got better and better. my sis started with my niece around 2 1/2 years and she caught on pretty quick. every child is different !! and i wouldn't worry about bringing a new baby into the house, she will do fine! us mamas tend to worry about everything !! and usually it all works itself out  :) hope this helps some, good luck !!  ;D

Congrats!! LOVE her name, it's beautiful....I would have torn someone a new a**h*le if they would have forgotten to bring me see my baby !! lol, please excuse my "french". I dont blame you at all for pitching a fit. Will be praying for a safe and quick recovery for you, and a short stay in the nicu for baby, and that she gets strong quickly !

Miracles happen every day ! :) :) I will be praying that everything goes well for you and baby !

Thanks to both of you....Yes, momma you made sense ! Since i had my first round at 25 weeks, i will definitely see if i can have another round around maybe 29 or 30 weeks. i had another ffn done yesterday that came back negative so i feel alot better about the next 2 weeks !!!

Hello ladies, I have a quick question for ya'll. Last week I had a positive FFN so my doctor gave me a round of steroid shots to help develop the baby's lungs in case she were to come early. (From what I hear a positive FFN isn't very accurate?) When I had the shots I was 25w 3d. Just say she is born around 30ish weeks....will the steroid shots still be beneficial to her? Or do they wear off after a certain amount of time? Thanks in advance for all responses !  ;D

PLEASE know that you are not the only one with SHI**Y (for lack of a better word) inlaws!! My inlaws are the two most selfish ppl i have ever met. They have done sooo many rotten things to us, it is unbelievable. you wouldn't even believe some of it. i could go on for dayssss. Anyways, just let your hubby know how stressful this all is for you and that you really need him to be here for YOU right now and that YOUR problems are whats important right now. sounds to me like he may need to cut ties with his mom for a little while to teach her a lesson. (just a suggestion) my hubby did that for a while and his parents got  a LITTLE better. this will all blow over, just keep they baby first!! you are NOT a horrible person for feeling this way! She is the horrible one for acting like that! one day she will reaize it and if not, oh well, her loss. It will get better, i promise. we all have bad days !! Prayers to you for a healthy baby!  :)

Thanks for the responses and encouragement !

Rosa, it's definitely easy to ramble on in this condition, it's not like we get to talk to many people all day haha!! You are right, it is wayy better to be safe than sorry ! I will pray that you make it to 34 weeks and more and deliver a healthy baby ! It will be very nice for you to get to move around a bit more! God willing, when I get to that point, I will also ask my ob if I can move around a little more. I'm so thankful I have my hubby, sister and parents to help with the boys and housework. In a few weeks they are gonna start getting things ready for baby. I have 2 boys and this time it's a girl so we have to get all new clothes, I want EVERYTHING pink !!  :)

Nelgh, I also take heparin shots twice a day. But my doc never said anything about not being able to have an epidural. I definitely having a c section so I have to have an epidural !! I understand your problems with being uncomfy. I don't have any contractions but for the past couple of weeks I am sooo very uncomfortable at night. I toss and turn all night long !! I try to prop up on pillows and also put a pillow between my legs when i lie on my side. It helps a little. Its a possibility that I get admitted into the hospital at some point for the remainder of the pregnancy. My main concern with that is that the beds on the L&D floor are soooooo uncomfortable. I dread it!! No amount of pillows make it better!! But, if I have to do it, then I will have to do it ! I know the further along I go, the bigger the baby gets and the more pressure that puts on my cervix. So I'm thinking in a couple of weeks I may ask either my mom or dad to come in the morning to help get Gabe ready for school. My hubby leaves for work too early, otherwise he would do it. My father is retired so he keeps my 2 year old everyday  and brings him home when my hubby gets home from work. I hate to ask any more from them but I know they are more than willing do do whatever they need to help us ! I will pray for you that you can start to sleep better and deliver a healthy baby. Oh, and that you can have an epidural  ;) !!

Also, how often do ya'll get up? In the mornings I am usually on my feet for 20 min or so getting my 6 yr old fed and off to school. For the rest of they day, I get up only to the bathroom and maybe 1 or 2 times for food or drink. Also I take a bath every night, thinking of starting to bathe every other night. Is this about how much everyone is getting up?
