“I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.”
-- Margaret Thatcher

And you will get your own way, ladies! One day at a time...  ;)

Do any of you have a mantra or something you say to yourself to stay motivated during bedrest? For me, my mantra was: "Right now, I am exactly where I am supposed to be." Also, "These weeks (or months) will change the life of my child forever."

Keep 'em cookin',

Happy Monday!

I hope each of you will schedule something today to anticipate. For example:

*Order a new book/movie/game that you have been wanting.
*Have a great friend bring you lunch or dinner from a favorite place.
*Ask someone to finally take care of that thing around the house that has been driving you crazy but you just haven't felt comfortable asking.

Remember that you are an important person doing an important job!  Don't hesitate to ask for the care and attention you need.  :)

Hello, you wonderful mamas!

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's updates! Did any of you think you wouldn't still be pregnant in April? Well, you made it into another month!

Does anyone want to post any belly pix on our Facebook page? http://www.facebook.com/KeepEmCookin I thought that might be fun!

I hope to see you all on the live chat on Thursday!

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call for March 25, 2019

What's the craziest thing someone has said to you while you've been on bedrest? Here are my faves from my two pregnancies:

1) You're STILL pregnant? Maybe you didn't even need to be on bedrest.
2) I shouldn't say this, but you really remind me of Jabba the Hut.
3) "How are you doing?" ... said by a (male) doctor strolling right into my hospital room and starting up a conversation (and continuing it!) while I was using the bedpan!!!
4) Let me know if you need any help. I can give you the number of my cleaning lady.

I'm sure there were others! Tell me yours!

I remember very well the situation you were in. My daughter was two and a half when I spent 15 weeks on bed rest for my son. I felt guilty often and I hated seeing other people doing things with her that were what I would normally do. But some interesting things happened. There were activities that became special just to us (reading, play-doh, educational online games, snack time). Lots of snuggling. I actually wrote a book about how you and your young child can still find times to have fun and to bond. (See the ad at the top of the page or go to https://amzn.to/2FqK58P

So here's what I want you to remember. I spent 15 weeks on the floor of our living room laying on a futon. We explained that mommy had to stay on "the blue square." The night I turned 37 weeks, my husband tossed that futon out on the curb! I never wanted to see it again. When my daughter came down the next morning, she looked where the futon had been all those months. She looked at the empty space for just a few seconds with a puzzled look on her face. Then she looked at me and asked, "Can I have milk?"  She forgot it that fast! Kids are more resilient than you'd think.

You both are going to get through this! (((hugs)))

I'm so sorry she's having these health challenges. All those extra weeks of cookin' will certainly help. Please keep us posted, okay? I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts in the meantime.

Hi, Linds!

Congratulations! It is wonderful that he had all those extra days of cookin' during your six weeks on bed rest. You are a tough mama. If you'd like to get some support as a preemie parent, there's a list of organizations here: https://preemieparentalliance.org/member-directory/ There are also Facebook groups as well.

Your hospital might even have a parent mentor program or parent counseling available to help you handle the stress of the NICU after a complicated pregnancy. Wishing you lots of snuggles both in the NICU and out.

Who's still cookin'? Any deliveries last week? Any St. Patrick's Day babies? What do you ladies have planned for this week to help pass the time?

We had a couple of ladies come out for the Live Chat last week. I hope we can add a few more this week. It's a lot of fun when we get a crowd! Our Live Chats are Thursdays at 2 pm Eastern/11 am Pacific.

It seems like many new members joined last week, so I hope you all will take a minute to fill us in on how you're doing, either here or in a "Share Your Story" post. Keep 'Em Cookin, mamas!

Hi, Heather.

A headache that won't go away can be a sign of preeclampsia. How has your blood pressure been? Any sudden swelling in your feet, face or hands? Are you feeling dizzy or seeing spots? Please let me know.

Welcome to another Monday Roll Call!

I know it can be tough to stay motivated, so I thought it might be good to share the things that brighten your day most. For me, the highlights of bed rest were negative FFN tests, seeing my babies on ultrasound, and having my husband paint my toenails. One night he set up a "romantic" dinner on a card table next to our bed. So what keeps you going?

And as always, let us know how many weeks along you are and if you have any appointments to look forward to this week. If you had any appointments last week or any trips to L&D last week, let us know how those went.

Hi, Linds! You're getting there. I have seen many moms who made it to 33 stay stable and go on to deliver at 37 weeks and beyond.  :)
