Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call AND a Success Story
« on: October 22, 2018 at 11:37 AM »
Success Story!
I'm dedicating today's Roll Call to Jmomma and her incredible success story. She joined the KEC Forum when she was only 19+5 weeks along with a 1.8 cm cervix. She was a very active member and continues to inspire us with her story below, which she sent to me just a few days ago...

I delivered our baby on August 7, at 38+4. He was 6lb9oz, 18 inches long, and everything was perfect, no NICU time at all. I went into labor during the night with contractions that became steady and painful and did not go away. I was so sure they would eventually stop, so I got ready for work in the morning and by the time I was done getting ready, I had to stop and breath through each contraction because they hurt so much. It turns out by the time we got to the hospital, I was complete. I still ended up with a c/s because the doctor was not comfortable with me pushing being that I already had 2 previous c/s. I'm glad I got to experience labor with contractions, and no medication. They hurt so bad, but I realized I could count down from 30 and by the time I got to 1, they would be over and I felt 100% fine until the next one came on. They were much different than the pitocin contractions.

I hope all the "new" mommas stay strong and keep cooking, and the mommas that were due around the time I was are all doing well with their babies!

Congratulations, Jmomma!

"I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything."
--Dan Millman

And this is your time to cook! Let everything else fall aside...for now. So tell me what is new, ladies! What are you looking forward to this week? As always, let us know how many weeks along you are.

Keep 'em cookin', mamas!

Happy Monday!

I hope each of you will schedule something today to anticipate, and then tell us what you did. For example:

*Order a new book/movie/game that you have been wanting.
*Have a great friend bring you lunch or dinner from a favorite place.
*Ask someone to finally take care of that thing around the house that has been driving you crazy but you just haven't felt comfortable asking.

Remember that you are an important person doing an important job!  Don't hesitate to ask for the care and attention you need.   :)

If you're reading this, I hope you will post a message here. Something as simple as telling us how far along you are and how long you've been on bed rest helps other moms to know they aren't alone in this. Keep 'em cookin', mamas!

Happy Monday! And welcome to another month! So here's something new... I have been hosting the Live Chat at 2 pm Eastern on Tuesdays for years and years. Starting this week, I'm changing it to Thursdays at 2 pm. Will that work better for you all? Who can make it this week?

Let us know how you're doing... AND let us know what you're eating. What kinds of meals and snacks are easiest to prepare (or not have to prepare) on bed rest or limited activity?

Keep 'em cookin', mamas!

Hello, ladies!

How is everyone doing? How many weeks are you? Any surprise trips to L&D last week? And who is holding smooth and steady?

I just wanted to say a quick word about preeclampsia today. I never expected that I would get it, and no one ever does. It can come on quickly, so I want to encourage all of you to keep an eye out for its symptoms: high blood pressure, protein in the urine, hyperactive reflexes, pain under the right rib, sudden swelling, sudden weight gain, nausea or vomiting, shoulder pain, vision changes (spots, blurriness), headache, lower back pain, racing pulse, confusion, shortness of breath or chest pain. You can learn more at www.Preeclampsia.org. If you have ANY of these symptoms, report them to your doctor right away.

Looking forward to your updates!

Hi, ladies!
I thought I'd do a fun question this week, to help keep you focused on the end goal: What do you dream of doing with your baby someday? Is there a certain activity? A hobby you'd like to share? A place to go? Tell us!

So it's actually a Tuesday Roll Call. Yesterday was Labor Day and I spent most of the day offline. How about that? And now the kids are back to school. Anyone else have kids heading off to school today?

I've noticed that our turnout for the Tuesday live chats has been low. Is there something about the chats that we could do differently? Would you like to receive a reminder e-mail? Just let me know...

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call for August 27

Today I want to share some wisdom from my late grandma:

Don't meet trouble halfway.
Let it travel the full distance,
because something usually happens to it before it arrives.

Anxiety and worry seem to be such a common part of bedrest. There's just too much time to think about all that might go wrong! Try not to get trapped in that kind of thinking. Instead, feel confident knowing that you are doing all you can to keep your baby (or babies) safe.

Hello, you wonderful mamas! I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's updates!

I have a favor to ask. We have had MANY new members join this past week. I love it! Would you be able to take time today to reach out to at least two other bedrest mamas?

Also, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's Live Chat at 2 pm Eastern/11 am Pacific. We have the best time when we can get a few of you on together. Please let me know if you can attend. Be sure to set an alarm on your phone so that you don't miss it. http://www.keepemcookin.com/live-chat/

It's almost August and here you are! Your dedication to your babies is wonderful.

Just for fun, share with us which TV shows you are watching. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit how much TV I've been watching late at night, but I HAVE to let my brain zone out after a packed day with work and the kids home from school. You need to give your brains a break, too. A couple goofy-just-for-fun shows I have been watching are The Last Man on Earth and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt. How about you?

Keep 'em cookin', mamas! Hope to see you on the Live Chat tomorrow!

Music! Take some time today for music.

First, think of a song that has always inspired you, like the theme from Rocky, or "Roar" by Katy Perry, or a favorite workout song. Next, pick a song that will take you to another time and place in your life when you were carefree, young and idealistic. Finally, pick a song that means something special to you and your partner, perhaps a song from your wedding or a song from when you first started dating. Don't underestimate the power that music can have on your mood!

As always, let us know how many weeks along you are and how the past week has been. And, tell us a song that inspires you. Here are a few links to get you started:

"Ain't no Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO_PWF0bmoM
"Fighter" by Christina Aguilera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PstrAfoMKlc
