Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call for February 26, 2018

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom."     --Viktor Frankl

So, ladies, what do you wish you could respond to differently? Your partner? This pregnancy? Your children? Your thoughts?

How are you responding now, and what would it look like or what would you say or think to respond differently? How will it free you?

Hello, ladies!

How do you look? I know it may seem silly to get dressed or put on makeup to sit around the house, but you might find that it boosts your spirits! It was really tough to style my hair with no mirror, but I still found it relaxing to brush and blowdry my hair. And when I had visitors, a quick stroke of lipstick seemed to help me feel like myself again. And don't underestimate the power of a body lotion in your favorite scent.  :)

What are YOUR beauty tips for bedrest? Do you feel like your appearance can have an effect on your mood? Feel free to offer your thoughts, or just let us know what's new and how many weeks along you are.

Hugs and kisses, ladies!  :-*

Will you be doing anything special with your sweetie for Valentine's day? I know holidays can be difficult when you are on bedrest, but hopefully you will be able to enjoy a meal or a movie together. Finding time for romance (or just feeling connected) is especially tough when you're on bedrest. You really have to work hard to make those opportunities happen.

And for those who think Saint Valentine can take a hike and keep on walking, what are you looking forward to this week?

I hope to see you all on the live chat tomorrow!

It's February and here you are! Your dedication to your babies is wonderful.

Just for fun, share with us which TV shows you are watching. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit how much TV I've been watching lately, but I HAVE to let my brain zone out after a packed day with work and the kids. You need to give your brains a break, too.

I recently finished the second season of "Stranger Things," and the most recent season of "Black Mirror." I really want to recommend "The Time in Between" and "The Paradise." Both of those are about women who push through their hardships and take charge of their lives. They rock it! Like you.  ;)

Hi, ladies.

I was thinking about a time when I was playing with Batman and Robin figures with my son. He said that he wished that he had a Wonder Woman figure so that I could be her.  :-*

Of course, that made me think of all of you! You are Wonder Women, doing everything you can for your babies. And you're also so wonderful for the support you provide each other! Whenever someone's having an especially tough day or week, you all are there. So thank you!

Anybody have any appointments this week?

"I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything."
--Dan Millman

And this is your time to cook! Let everything else fall aside ... for now.

So tell me what is new, ladies! What are you looking forward to this week? As always, let us know how many weeks along you are.

I can't believe we are already two weeks into the new year! How has this past week been for all of you?

I hope to see you all at the Live Chat tomorrow! We've been having a lot of fun lately. If you can, plan some of your "up" time during the chat so you can access it on your laptop or desktop. It will be easier to follow along than using your phone. You CAN use your phone though, so no worries.

And keep 'em cookin'!

Welcome to another week! Tell us how many weeks along you are, what you have planned for this week, and what your favorite bed rest food is.

I ate a lot of string cheese and nuts when I was on bed rest, and also yogurt that I kept in a small fridge next to my futon on the floor in the living room. I wanted to be where all the action was with my 2-year-old Miss Sunshine. Every day was a party on the floor! Kids are very adaptable, thank goodness!

Looking forward to your updates...
Angela

It's not just another week behind you, but an entire year! Anyone surprised that they'll be having a 2018 baby?!?

There's passage from a book called Start with Why that has stuck with me for a few years now. One example from the book is about an expedition to Antarctica, and it made me think immediately of all the bedrest moms I’ve known.

On December 5, 1914, Ernest Shackleton and a crew of twenty-seven men set out for the Weddell Sea on the Endurance, a 350-ton ship that had been constructed with funds from private donors, the British government, and the Royal Geographical Society. … But the crew of the Endurance would never reach the continent of Antarctica. Just a few days out of South Georgia Island in the Southern Atlantic, the ship encountered mile after mile of pack ice, and was soon trapped as winter moved in and with furry. Ice closed around the ship “like an almond in a piece of toffee,” a crew member wrote.

Shackleton and his crew were stranded in the Antarctic for ten months as the Endurance drifted slowly north until the pressure of the ice floes crushed the ship. On November 21, 1915, the crew watched as she sank in the frigid waters of the Weddell Sea. …

Stranded on the ice, the crew boarded their three lifeboats and landed on tiny Elephant Island. There Shackleton left behind all but five of his men and embarked on a hazardous journey across 800 miles of rough sea to find help. Which, eventually, they did.

The book's author, Simon Sinek, goes on to talk about how none of the crew died and how there was no mutiny. Then he shares the ad that Shackleton ran to find and hire his crew, and that is what reminded me of women on bedrest facing a high-risk pregnancy:

“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.”

I think an ad for pregnancy bedrest would look something like this:

“Women wanted for anxiety-filled journey. Lost wages, bitter emotions, long months of complete boredom, constant worry. Happiness and healthy baby in case of success.”

I know you didn’t answer a want ad, but there is no one I would rather have on the KeepEmCookin ship than you. You are strong in spirit and mind. You believe in beating the odds. And for months on end, you don’t give up.

Now let's hear some weekly updates, and your thoughts on the year ahead.

Keep 'em cookin',
Angela

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call for Dec. 18, 2017

Five Ways Prison Is Better than Bed Rest

1) Daily showers
2) One hour of exercise each day
3) Time spent outdoors on chain gang or "in the yard"
4) Spending time with others in similar circumstances
5) Conjugal visits  ;)

I haven’t shared that in a while, so I thought our new members might get a kick out of it!

As always, let us know how many weeks along you are, and what you've been doing to stay busy. Also, take a moment today to connect with another member by responding to her post. Stay connected…

And keep 'em cookin'!

The holiday season is well under way. It's exciting to see time passing, but I know it can be a tough time as friends and family are having holiday parties and are out shopping for gifts. This is a time when it is especially important to invite people over so that you don't feel quite so left out. What do you have planned? Or tell us what you will make a plan to do after reading this message.

I'm looking forward to your updates! It was great to have such a great turnout for the Live Chat last week. Even with the struggles you are all going through, I have to say that we had a lot of fun!

Hello!

Tell us what you're doing to capture the holiday spirit even though you are on bedrest! Listening to special music? Are you shopping online, or having someone do some shopping for you? Are you able to have friends or a leader from your religious community come visit you? And, for those who aren't linked to particular religion, there's always the "Festivus" episode of Seinfeld! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS7-jcsB_WQ Laughter is universal!  ;D

I hope you all will join us in the Chat Room tomorrow at 2 pm Eastern/11 am Pacific for the Live Chat.

Keep looking forward, mamas!

Hello, my dears.

I HATE to ask for help, just like many of you are feeling right now. It personally costs me more than $2,000 per year to run KeepEmCookin (for website hosting, website security, business registration fees, bank fees, and domain registration).  Your Amazon purchases are a way that I can help meet that goal. It is Cyber Monday on Amazon, so it seems like the best day to make this request. Whenever you are going to shop on Amazon (not just today), please first click on this link: http://amzn.to/2Ah68fc Then shop! When you do, Amazon gives 4% to 6% of the purchase price to Keep 'Em Cookin' and that helps me to keep the forum up and running.

So super mamas, how has the past week been? What have you been up to? Who has an appointment this week?

Keep looking forward, mamas!

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call: Giving Thanks
« on: November 20, 2017 at 12:57 PM »
Hello, ladies!

It is almost Thanksgiving, and you may be feeling a bit down about it. Getting through any holiday while on bedrest can be especially tough when you feel like you're missing out. Instead, try to consider it a marker in the passage of time, getting you even closer to a safe delivery date.

So tell us what you are thankful for. It can be big or small.

Keep looking forward, mamas!
