Hello, you wonderful mamas!

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's updates! Did any of you think you wouldn't still be pregnant in April? Well, you made it into another month!

Does anyone want to post any belly pix on our Facebook page? http://www.facebook.com/KeepEmCookin I thought that might be fun!

I hope to see you all on the live chat on Thursday!

What's the craziest thing someone has said to you while you've been on bedrest? Here are my faves from my two pregnancies:

1) You're STILL pregnant? Maybe you didn't even need to be on bedrest.
2) I shouldn't say this, but you really remind me of Jabba the Hut.
3) "How are you doing?" ... said by a (male) doctor strolling right into my hospital room and starting up a conversation (and continuing it!) while I was using the bedpan!!!
4) Let me know if you need any help. I can give you the number of my cleaning lady.

I'm sure there were others! Tell me yours!

Who's still cookin'? Any deliveries last week? Any St. Patrick's Day babies? What do you ladies have planned for this week to help pass the time?

We had a couple of ladies come out for the Live Chat last week. I hope we can add a few more this week. It's a lot of fun when we get a crowd! Our Live Chats are Thursdays at 2 pm Eastern/11 am Pacific.

It seems like many new members joined last week, so I hope you all will take a minute to fill us in on how you're doing, either here or in a "Share Your Story" post. Keep 'Em Cookin, mamas!

Welcome to another Monday Roll Call!

I know it can be tough to stay motivated, so I thought it might be good to share the things that brighten your day most. For me, the highlights of bed rest were negative FFN tests, seeing my babies on ultrasound, and having my husband paint my toenails. One night he set up a "romantic" dinner on a card table next to our bed. So what keeps you going?

And as always, let us know how many weeks along you are and if you have any appointments to look forward to this week. If you had any appointments last week or any trips to L&D last week, let us know how those went.

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom."  --Viktor Frankl

So, ladies, what do you wish you could respond to differently? Your partner? This pregnancy? Your children? Your thoughts?

How are you responding now, and what would it look like or what would you say or think to respond differently? How will it free you?

Hello, ladies!

How do you look? I know it may seem silly to get dressed or put on makeup to sit around the house, but you might find that it boosts your spirits! It was really tough to style my hair with no mirror, but I still found it relaxing to brush and blowdry my hair. When I had visitors, a few strokes of lipstick seemed to help me feel like myself again. And don't underestimate the power of a body lotion in your favorite scent.  :)

What are YOUR beauty tips for bedrest? Do you feel like your appearance can have an effect on your mood? Feel free to offer your thoughts, or just let us know what's new and how many weeks along you are.

Hugs and kisses, ladies!  :-*

Will you be doing anything special with your sweetie for Valentine's day? I know holidays can be difficult when you are on bedrest, but hopefully you will be able to enjoy a meal or a movie together. Finding time for romance (or just feeling connected) is especially tough when you're on bedrest. You really have to work hard to make those opportunities happen.

And for those who think Saint Valentine can take a hike and keep on walking, what are you looking forward to this week?

I hope to see you all on the live chat Thursday! Set an alarm on your phone so you don't miss it.

It's February and here you are! Your dedication to your babies is wonderful.

Are any of you planning to have a baby shower? If so, at how many weeks along? Or will it depend on when you get off bed rest? Or, would you do a "meet and greet" after the baby is born? Where would you have it? At your house so you don't have to travel? Or do you think your OB would give you the OK to go to a friend or family member's house?

Hi, ladies.

I was remembering a time when I was playing with Batman and Robin figures with my son. He said that he wished that he had a Wonder Woman figure so that I could be her.

Of course, that made me think of all of you! You are Wonder Women, doing everything you can for your babies. And you're also so wonderful for the support you provide each other! Whenever someone's having an especially tough day or week, you all are there. So thank you!

Anybody have any appointments this week?

"I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything."
--Dan Millman

And this is your time to cook! Let everything else fall aside ... for now.

So tell me what is new, ladies! What are you looking forward to this week? As always, let us know how many weeks along you are. See you on the Live Chat on Thursday!

How are we two weeks into 2019? I hope it has been moving quickly for you as you head toward the finish line!

There's passage from a book called Start with Why that has stuck with me for a few years now. One example from the book is about an expedition to Antarctica, and it made me think immediately of all the bedrest moms I’ve known.

On December 5, 1914, Ernest Shackleton and a crew of twenty-seven men set out for the Weddell Sea on the Endurance, a 350-ton ship that had been constructed with funds from private donors, the British government, and the Royal Geographical Society. … But the crew of the Endurance would never reach the continent of Antarctica. Just a few days out of South Georgia Island in the Southern Atlantic, the ship encountered mile after mile of pack ice, and was soon trapped as winter moved in and with furry. Ice closed around the ship “like an almond in a piece of toffee,” a crew member wrote.

Shackleton and his crew were stranded in the Antarctic for ten months as the Endurance drifted slowly north until the pressure of the ice floes crushed the ship. On November 21, 1915, the crew watched as she sank in the frigid waters of the Weddell Sea. …

Stranded on the ice, the crew boarded their three lifeboats and landed on tiny Elephant Island. There Shackleton left behind all but five of his men and embarked on a hazardous journey across 800 miles of rough sea to find help. Which, eventually, they did.

The book's author, Simon Sinek, goes on to talk about how none of the crew died and how there was no mutiny. Then he shares the ad that Shackleton ran to find and hire his crew, and that is what reminded me of women on bedrest facing a high-risk pregnancy:

“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.”

These men came to the challenge with a certain mindset that I think helped them to power through.

I think an ad for pregnancy bedrest would look something like this:

“Women wanted for anxiety-filled journey. Lost wages, bitter emotions, long months of complete boredom, constant worry. Happiness and healthy baby in case of success.”

I know you didn’t answer a want ad, but there is no one I would rather have on the KeepEmCookin ship than you. You are strong in spirit and mind. You believe in beating the odds. And for months on end, you don’t give up.

Now let's hear some weekly updates!

Keep 'em cookin',
Angela

Welcome to another week! Tell us how many weeks along you are, what you have planned for this week, and what your favorite bed rest food is.

I ate a lot of string cheese and nuts when I was on bed rest, and also yogurt that I kept in a small fridge next to my futon on the floor in the living room. I wanted to be where all the action was with my 2-year-old Miss Sunshine. Every day was a party on the floor! Kids are very adaptable, thank goodness!

Looking forward to your updates... and to seeing you on the Live Chat on Thursday. We had the best time last week!

Who's still cookin'? Did any of you worry about having a 2018 baby? You're soooo close to 2019!

Share with us three wonderful things that happened to you this year. I'll start:

1) Publishing "Stuck in Bed" after more than a year and a half of collaboration with my co-author and illustrator.
2) Celebrating my 14th anniversary with my husband, who grows more special to me every year. (And who put up with my craziness during my two pregnancies on bed rest!)
3) My kids finding their passions: drawing anime characters (my daughter) and playing the baritone horn (my son).

I'm looking forward to your weekly updates and what made 2018 special for you.

You've made it another week! Let us know how you're doing ladies!

I know the holidays are an extra difficult time to be on bedrest. You may not be seeing everyone you hoped to see, and you may have to put aside your usual traditions. Try to stay focused on what this extra time cookin' will mean for your baby for the rest of his or her life.

Count your blessings, and even write them down and share them with your partner or a friend. Don't hesitate to ask someone for what you need: a glass of water, another serving of mashed potatoes, a listening ear or a big hug.

Keep 'em cookin',
Angela

P.S. I won't be able to host the Live Chat on Thursday at 2 pm EST/11 am PST as I usually do. If someone would like to host it for me, please let me know and I will post it on Facebook and Twitter.  http://www.keepemcookin.com/live-chat/
