Hope to see you all in the Chat Room tomorrow at 2 pm Eastern when Darline Turner-Lee is our guest. She is the creator of the "Bedrest Fitness" DVD and will be answering your questions and offering you suggestions for maintaining muscle tone and flexibility on bedrest. Looking forward to it!

So give us an update. How many weeks are you? Any appointments this week? What are you looking forward to?

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Boo! Monday Roll Call for October 31

Happy Halloween!

If you like to be scared, be sure to check out our Book of the Day: http://www.keepemcookin.com/bedrest.aspx. I read it when I was 11 years old and the thought of it still freaks me out! And if you'd rather see other everyday people looking scared, check out the Idea of the Day for photos of people at a Haunted House attraction in Niagara Falls: http://www.keepemcookin.com/bedrest.aspx It's actually pretty funny.

How is everyone doing this week? What are you looking forward to?

Did everyone see Jenamie's newborn pix of Shepard Alexander? http://forum.keepemcookin.com/index.php?topic=2120.0 He's one week old today!

Ladies! I'm very excited to announce that Dr. Adam Wolfberg of Tufts Medical Center will be joining our live chat this Thursday at 2 pm. Dr. Wolfberg is a maternal fetal medicine specialist and will be available on the chat to answer your questions! He's joined the chat before and his insights are always so helpful!

Now back to the Roll Call. How many weeks are you? How are you feeling? Any appointments this week? Also, I recently had some upgrades done to the forum so that we'd be able to post pictures again. Feel free to post belly pics, or nursery pics, or whatever you'd like. To post a photo: reply to this message, then click on the pink text (below the text box) that reads "Additional Options." Then click on the oval that says "Choose File" to attach an image.

Hi, everyone!

Last week Jennalyns started a post that I would LOVE to see each of you contribute to. She wrote:

"If you asked me to think of the things that suck about bed rest, I could name, like, 68 off the top of my head. But recently something happened that made me say, "I'm kind of glad I'm on bed rest." I'd love to get a thread going about good things about bed rest - serious, silly, or otherwise. Just a thread to make us all smile. I'll kick it off."

Happy Monday!
I'm not going to jinx anyone by saying Happy Labor Day  8), so I'll just say that I hope everyone here in the U.S. is doing something special with their friends and family members who are off work today for the holiday.

It's been great to see more and more people from around the world on our forum, mostly from Canada, the UK and even Australia. I was thinking it might be fun to have a live chat for our UK moms, since they probably miss our Tuesday and Thursday chats at 2 pm Eastern time. UK moms: Let me know what time would work well for you. Maybe 10 am Eastern?

So, tell us what's new! How many weeks are you? How are you feeling? Any appointments this week?

What's Your Story? Tell us. / An update from long-time member "Bug"
« on: September 01, 2011 at 05:22 PM »
Hi, everyone! Bug (who was on bedrest from March through June) sent me a message and gave me the okay to share it with all of you. She wrote:

For those that didn't follow my story, here is a quick recap: My sister and I were both expecting baby girls and had due dates two weeks apart. At 18 weeks she experienced bulging membranes and was given a emercency cerclage. During that week she was in the hospital I had a nagging thought that I should have my doctor check me. I already had two boys and with each on I dilated early and was given some restrictions, but no bed rest and I delivered both at full term. At 20 weeks I went in for my regularly scheduled visit and shared my sister's story and my own concerns with my doc. He tried to reassure me that I was ok and that just because my sister was having problems didn't mean that I would as well. I needed the peace of mind that everything was indeed ok, so after I didn't back down on my wishes, he agreed to check me. At 20 weeks I was dilated to a 2+ and was almost 100% effaced. I was given an emergency cerclage the next day.

Unfortunately, my sister ended up loosing her little girl at 19 weeks due to an infection. Her doc told my mom that her baby girl's life was not in vain...she saved the life of her cousin. My doc said that if he hadn't checked me that day he would have most likely delivered our baby girl within a weeks time. We were given such a tremendous gift and will forever be grateful for my sister and her sweet little Claire Hope.

I spent 18 weeks on strict bed rest. I could sit up to eat, take a 5 min shower, and use the restroom. That was it. I was able to leave my house for weekly appts with peri and my ob. I spent 20 days in the hospital and 124 total days on strict bed rest. From March 1st until July 1st. It was a long 4 months and each day was a new victory. I tried to keep a positive outlook on things, focused on the amazing second chance we had been given, and tried not to look beyond the next week. Looking too far ahead would send me into a major depression because I didn't think laying down for 4 months was possible but one week was doable.

On July 1st (38 weeks and 1 day) we went in to the hospital to have my cerclage removed and have a medical induction and VBAC. I had heard  so many awful stories about the cerclage removal and was very nervous. It was wonderful! A pap smear hurts worse than the stitch being removed! My doc did a fantastic job and the only discomfort came when he had to insert some guaze to help with bleeding. After the stitch was removed I was dilated to a 3 and 30 minutes later I was dilated to a 5. The entire labor and delivery ended up being such a wonderful experience. It went quickly and without any complications. I was so grateful to have my doc willing to spend the entire day with just me doing a VBAC. He went above and beyond to make sure I had a good experience. It was a very spiritual experience for me and one that I will always cherish. Growing up, my mom would often tell me "You can do hard things" whenever I would complain about something. This was definitely one of those hard things and I did it. It was amazing!

We gave our little girl the same middle name as her cousin that gave her a second chance, she gave us Hope.

Coming off of 4 months of bed rest takes time. I was very weak and tired for about a month. I took lots of naps and had to remind myself to be patient with me...it would take time. I am doing great now. Still weak in some areas, and still lots of baby weight to lose!, but overall the 4 months of bed rest are just a memory and a semi-pleasant one at that.

Keep up the good work. It's tough, but it's oh, so worth it! You will never regret listening to your healthcare providers and taking their restrictions seriously. You should also be willing to listen to yourself and not be afraid to tell your docs when you know something is wrong. You know yourself. Don't doubt. Believe you can do this and you can.

Hello, you wonderful mamas!

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's updates! Couchdiva posted a birth announcement here, and will hopefully be posting a few pix for us: http://forum.keepemcookin.com/index.php?topic=2000.0 She made it to 38 weeks, and you can too!

Speaking of photos, does anyone want to post any belly pix, either here or on our Facebook page? http://www.facebook.com/KeepEmCookin Thought that might be fun!

One more thing: Would anyone like to have a twins live chat on Thursday at 2 pm Eastern? Of course, everyone is always welcome in the Chat Room, but let me know if you'd like me to try to get all the twin bedrest moms together and I'll promote it on FB and Twitter. Reply here or e-mail me at feedback@keepemcookin.com.

Happy Monday, ladies!

Looking forward to hearing everyone's updates! And I think there may even be a delivery or two to hear about.

I'd like to share some opportunities from a few friends of KeepEmCookin: You may know of Dr. Adam Wolfberg of Tufts Medical Center, who has joined our live chats several times. He is developing a website that allows women to enter their pregnancy symptoms and then receive recommendations for managing their high-risk pregnancies. This isn't meant to replace a doctor's care, of course, but it can give you suggestions for treatment options to discuss with your OB. He would love your feedback on the new site: www.myplanforpregnancy.com. You can contact him at adam@adamwolfberg.com or e-mail me at info@keepemcookin.com with your suggestions.

Our friend Anna at Baby Store Plus is going out of business and heading into retirement, and is offering discounts of 25% to 50% off at her online site: http://shop.thebabystoreplus.com/?kec    Anna has always been quick to mention KeepEmCookin.com to her customers. I wish her the best as she and her husband head toward retirement!

So tell us what's new with you! And keep those babies cookin'!

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call for August 8th
« on: August 08, 2011 at 09:17 AM »
Hello! Today is a special day for KEC.

It was three years ago today that I decided to create a website devoted to helping women prevent preterm birth and to provide a forum where they could share their experiences and seek support from other moms experiencing high-risk pregnancies. My son was not quite 3 weeks old, and he had made it to 39 weeks and 3 days, though he tried his hardest to get here early. (You can read more about his story, and his sister's story, here: http://www.keepemcookin.com/about.aspx) I had learned so much about preventing preterm birth, I knew I wanted to share it. I launched KeepEmCookin the first week of January 2009.

It is so wonderful to have all of you in my life and to see the amazing support you offer one another! Thank you for being here!

So... Let us know how many weeks along you are, and tell us how you're feeling. Do you have any appointments this week or any news to report from last week? I know long-time member Threadcatcher has news to share. Can't wait to hear her birth story!
