Hi, Wren.

How is everything going? I think your message may have been bumped down before people had a chance to see it. Speaking of "bumps" I think you have a very good chance of cooking' for many more weeks! I've seen women stay at 1 cm dilated for many months, and even women at 2 or 3 stay that way for a month or more. Of course, it's still scary and stressful when everything isn't going as you hoped.

Are you on any medications to calm the contractions, or have they calmed on their own this past week? When is your next OB appointment? Do you have other children?

Postive thoughts coming your way!  :D

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Monday Roll Call for April 16, 2018

OBmom and EnglishRose: I am sorry these last few days have been so tough. It really wears you down. Try to find those moments when you can say "Right now, everything is ok."

Jmomma: Good to hear you're moving along steadily. I'm sending positive thoughts for a great cervix length on Friday! Definitely let us know how it goes.

It would be wonderful to see you all on the Live Chat today. I think it would be good with everything that has been going on these last few days, even if just to know that you aren't alone in this. The Live Chat is 2 pm Eastern time: http://www.keepemcookin.com/live-chat/

Hope to talk to you all later!

Hi, OBmom.

Good to hear you are heading in to get checked out! I know it sets off an emotional chain reaction in you and everyone around you, but there's no such thing as too many trips to Labor & Delivery. Not today, my friend! Let us know how it goes!

“I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.”
-- Margaret Thatcher

And you will get your own way, ladies! One day at a time...  ;)

Do any of you have a mantra or something you say to yourself to stay motivated during bedrest? For me, my mantra was: "Right now, I am exactly where I am supposed to be." Also, "These weeks (or months) will change the life of my child forever."

Hello, ladies!

How do you look? I know it may seem silly to get dressed or put on makeup to sit around the house, but you might find that it boosts your spirits! It was really tough to style my hair with no mirror, but I still found it relaxing to brush and blow dry my hair. And when I had visitors, a quick stroke of lipstick seemed to help me feel like myself again. And don't underestimate the power of a body lotion in your favorite scent.  :)

What are YOUR beauty tips for bed rest? What parts of your beauty routine do you still do?

Feel free to offer your thoughts, or just let us know what's new and how many weeks along you are.

Shannamae,
How is everything going? Sending prayers and positive thoughts!

A big welcome to your baby girl! Give her as much skin-to-skin time as you (and your partner) can. Great for regulation of heartbeat, temperature and breathing, along with so many other benefits: https://www.fitpregnancy.com/baby/baby-care/kangaroo-care-9-benefits-skin-skin-contact

Every extra day you kept her cookin' was valuable beyond words!  How is she doing?

Preterm Labor: Anything and Everything / Re: Pelvic pressure?
« on: April 05, 2018 at 09:27 PM »
Hi, Englishrose.

I can't offer medical advice, so I'm going to encourage you to call your OB tomorrow to see if you should come in to get checked. There's no harm in being cautious.  :) Also, that was the feeling I had when I went into preterm labor with my daughter. (It wasn't until I called my OB that I even considered that it was preterm labor.) Even though heading to your MFM's office is challenging because of the drive, I think it will help to ease your mind. Are you closer to the hospital where the MFM has privileges rather than the office? Perhaps you could go there for a quick check. Of course, if you have ANY preterm labor symptoms (see below) call right away, or just head to the hospital. Positive thoughts coming your way!!! Fingers crossed for you.

 * Four or more contractions in one hour, either with or without pain
 * Cramping that may feel like menstrual cramps
 * Vaginal or rectal pressure; a feeling like the baby could just “fall out”
 * Increased discharge; loss of the mucus plug
 * Lower backache that may persist, or come and go
 * Bleeding of any sort or amount
 * Leaking fluid; a gush of fluid
 * Increased bowel movements or diarrhea
 * A decrease in the baby’s activity; fewer kicks
 * A sense that something just isn’t right

I'm so sorry. I don't know what to say, other than my heart goes out to you and I will be praying for you. You're living an incredibly difficult life. Your husband and in-laws are horrible people. You are strong, for sure, but hopefully we can find a way for you to not have to be so alone in this.

It seems reasonable to me that your sister should pay for the medical bills related to her baby. Can you ask her about that? Is she able to drive you to appointments? Do you mind if I ask which state you live in? Maybe I could find some local resources for you for emotional support.

Hope to hear from you later today...  (((hugs)))

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Monday Roll Call for March 26, 2018

What's the craziest thing someone has said to you while you've been on bedrest? Here are my faves from my two pregnancies:

1) You're STILL pregnant? Maybe you didn't even need to be on bedrest.
2) I shouldn't say this, but you really remind me of Jabba the Hut.
3) "How are you doing?" ... said by a (male) doctor strolling right into my hospital room and starting up a conversation (and continuing it!) while I was using the bedpan!!!
4) Let me know if you need any help. I can give you the number of my cleaning lady.

I'm sure there were others! Tell me yours!

I hope to see you all on the live chat tomorrow!
