Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: The bigger baby items

I have a Graco travel system that I got when I was pregnant w/ my son. We like it really well & have never had any problems w/ it. The only thing I would suggest looking for in a carseat, for convenience sake, is an adjustable strap on the front of the carseat. It usually comes out between baby's legs. It's much easier to adjust the straps that way, especially since babies grow so fast!

Hey all! Congrats to Laura!

I'm 33 weeks today and currently in the hospital being monitored for contractions. They've been coming pretty frequently and getting more uncomfortable. Hoping I'm not in labor & baby can cook for a while longer, but if I do have my baby soon, I'm so grateful to have made it this far!

Yay!!!! How exciting! You'll be meeting your baby before you know it :)

I have a 20 month old & have been on bedrest for 10 weeks now. I've had a lot of people in and out helping w/ my son and it has definitely been a trying experience for me as well! We have people from our church helping 2 days a week and my in-laws help the other days. And it has been my in-laws who've been the most irritating!! They hover over Blue all day and often undermine my authority w/ him so that by the time my husband gets home from work, Blue is a wreck - throwing tantrum after tantrum. At the beginning they tried to keep Blue away from me, but I tried to stop that. We taught Blue how to climb up onto the couch w/ me and would spend lots of time cuddling together, reading books or watching kid friendly videos on YouTube :) I remember sending a text to my husband while he was at work one day that said "Your step-mom is driving me crazy!" while I was hiding in the bathroom crying! It's really hard, but if you can find a way to address it things will be much better!

At the beginning I spent a lot of time upset b/c I didn't feel like I could still be Blue's mom. I felt like, by protecting one baby, I was cheating the other. It was really hard for me, but by working to figure out what I could still do w/ Blue that has gotten easier.

Hope you're able to get thing worked out w/ your helper! If nothing else, this place is a great place to vent :)

I went through the same thing w/ my first pregnancy. For a while it was fine, but as a few weeks went by and nothing had happened it began to get annoying! I started just posting on FB or sending a mass text that I was still pregnant - nothing had changed! I think that part of it is that people we are close to have been invested in our pregnancies as well and are feeling impatient w/ waiting, especially since there's been a feeling that baby could come "at any time" for several weeks!

I am SO sorry for your loss!

Based on what I know, it sounds like incompetent cervix, but I could be wrong. I was blindsided by issues w/ this pregnancy & my high risk doctors have advised me to make an appointment for more testing before we get pregnant again (if we decide to have another baby). That might be a good idea for you, if you haven't thought of it already. It would give the docs a better understanding of what might have happened and then they would know better what steps to prevent this from happening again.

I'm still cookin' at 31 weeks 3 days!! I'm SO excited to have made it this far. U/S last week revealed no changes in my cervix and that baby was close to 4 lbs! I only have one more appointment w/ my MFM docs, so from that point on I will only be seeing my regular OB. Baby has been moving & kicking like crazy. Sometimes it seems like she's trying to fight her way out through my belly button! I'm getting excited to meet her, but hope she cooks for a few more weeks :)

I'm here and still cookin' at 30 weeks 5 days!! I've had a couple of encouraging doctor appointments in a row and that has been such a boost to my state of mind. I'm still funneled to the stitch, but not dilated or contracting! Baby measures right on track and they think she weighs almost 4 lbs :) I only have one more appointment w/ my MFM docs and then I will only be seeing my regular OB until baby comes!

Congrats on making it this far!!

I just got back from an appointment w/ my MFM docs and they said they want me to stay on bedrest until 37 weeks, but my regular OB (who will be taking over my care completely in 2 weeks!!) has already told me that I could start easing up on some of my restrictions at around 34 weeks. I'm currently 30 weeks 5 days and I'm really looking forward to being able to be up a little bit more. But I also don't want to be irresponsible about it, so I think mckoygirl's advice really makes sense. Just pay attention to your body & if you feel like you need to take a break then take a break :)

@Mom2Z - I'm so jealous. I wish my docs had put me out for it!! I have a fused spine (due to scoliosis surgery as a teen) and there was a lot of talk about putting me out, but after getting my hopes up, they decided to try the spinal instead. I was SO disappointed!

Just wanted to send you some encouragement...I had a rescue cerclage put in at 22 weeks and within a couple of weeks, I had funneled to the stitch. I'm now 30 weeks. The stitch is the only thing holding my cervix closed. But it is closed & I'm not contracting. I've just been following the doctor's orders as strictly as possible and everything seems to be holding steady! I'm so excited to have made it this far and my OB doesn't seem to think 34 weeks is an impossible goal!!

Just keep doing what the doctors tell you and take it one day at a time!

28
My cervical length has fluctuated almost every week since the cerclage was put in until it funneled to the stitch when I had the stomach flu a few weeks ago. Thankfully the stitch is holding it closed. I've been funneled to the stitch for about 3 weeks now, but I'm not dilated or contracting so I''m OK w/ that. I'm 30 weeks now (I've been on bedrest for 8.5 weeks) and I really want to go at least 4 more weeks. My OB seems to think that's completely possible, so I'm hopeful :)

29
Agree! When I came out of my cerclage I called it the most undignified thing I had ever experienced!! Thankfully it's keeping my cervix closed & doing it's job, but the thought of voluntarily going through the experience again knowing what it's like, with every future pregnancy, is not appealing!

Hope your cerclage is working & the memory of the cerclage experience fades quickly!

Michelle

I've been on bedrest for a short cervix (w/ cerclage) for 8 weeks & I'm 30 weeks tomorrow! I asked my MFM doctors about when I would be able to "go off" bedrest and they said at 36 weeks, if I make it there. My regular OB has mentioned lightening up on some restrictions before that time, but hasn't mentioned a specific week. I do know that my OB won't stop labor after it starts once I reach 34 weeks.

During my first pregnancy, I was dilated to 1cm and 75% effaced at 32 weeks. My OB told me to do bedrest until 34 weeks and then lifted restrictions. My baby wasn't born until 37.5 weeks, he's now 19 months.
