Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Husbands! <sigh>

Too funny! My husband bought us a memory foam mattress pad to help w/ my hip pain while sleeping a couple of months ago. I'm sure if he had thought about my water potentially breaking while in bed, he would want to invest in a waterproof mattress pad as well, mostly to protect the expensive memory foam!

Making the Best of Bed Rest / Re: Roll Call for Monday May 23rd

Hey everyone! I'm now approx 29 weeks and so thankful to have made it this far. Last week I had a vaginal ultrasound & discovered my cervix was funneled down to the stitch (I didn't get a measurement). I wasn't really surprised, since I had the stomach flu right after my last appointment and there is no way puking can be good on a weak cervix. I was immediately admitted to the hospital, given a 48 hour dose of Indocin and monitored for contractions for 24 hours. Good news is that I didn't have any contractions the whole time I was being monitored. I was released on Wednesday and told to continue modified bedrest. I'm also taking a 48 hour dose of Indocin every week until 32 weeks & I'm getting the progesterone shots now. So for now, things are back to "bedrest normal."

I am super frustrated though w/ the communication b/t all of my doctors. When I was admitted to the hospital, my high risk doctors told me that there was "some discrepancy with my due date." They checked it out and told me that they were going by an 8/10 due date! I was originally given a due date of 8/1 (which is what my OB is still going by) then I was given a due date of 8/5 and now to be told another, later due date was so frustrating. I feel like this pregnancy is going backwards instead of forward - which is not good when you're on bedrest, counting down the days until it is safe for baby to come. I'm really looking forward to talking to my OB about this issue later this week!

I'm still here. I'm either 29 weeks today or 28 weeks 3 days, depending on the doctor your talking to. I had an ultrasound today w/ my high risk doctor and my cervix had funneled down to the cerclage & the baby is head down. So they sent me right to the hospital. They put me on indocin and want to monitor me for contractions for at least few days and then check my cervix again later in the week. I'm not super excited about being back in the hospital, but better safe than sorry...especially when it concerns my unborn baby. Good news is that I've been on the contraction monitor all afternoon/evening and haven't had any contractions!!! Bad news is that Blue (19 months) is going to be shuffled around even more for at least a few days. It's really hard to be away from him!!

Hoping & praying I get to go home at the end of the week!!

Michelle

First time checking in & it's late :)

Congrats to Allison!

I'm 27.5 weeks & SO excited about reaching 28 weeks on Friday! I've been on bedrest for 6 weeks w/ a short cervix. I had a cerclage put in at 22 weeks. My cervical length has changed every week I've been on bedrest, some weeks getting shorter and some longer so it has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster, but I haven't dilated any and the stitch seems to be holding well. I haven't had any contractions or any other signs of impending labor, so I'm just trying to stay calm and keep busy while staying on the couch :)

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow & I'm a little anxious about what my cervix will look like - I had the stomach flu last week and I can't imagine that's good on a weak cervix!

flowerchica - Thanks for all the suggestions & the milestones list. I'm on week 3 of bedrest and I've got 12 more to go (at least). I've also been able to kill a ton of time on pogo.com There's a ton of free games there, so far Poppit has been the most addicting one for me! I also love Netflix on demand and have watched almost every episode of Say Yes to the Dress :)

I've also had a lot of people in and out during the week and that helps time go by so much faster. I have an 18m old and since I can't take care of him while on bedrest, the women from my church come over in shifts 2-3 days a week so Blue can be home w/ me as much as possible.

I also second the suggestion of taking it one day/week at a time. Thinking about being on bedrest until the middle of the summer is super depressing, but it's not nearly so hard to think about it in terms of one day or one week.

Thanks for the comments. The interesting thing for me is that I've never had any miscarriages (or D&Cs) or anything else they asked me about that could weaken my cervix. So it has to just be IC, right?

Anyway, I just got back from my weekly cervical length check and this week my cervix is back down to 2cm after going up to 2.5 last week. That's pretty frustrating, especially since I've been doing nothing by laying around. Doctor put me on Indocin and said he thought that would help a lot. Hopefully it does!

Best thing is that baby is still doing well, and other than the uncooperative cervix, I'm having a perfectly healthy pregnancy!

I guess I have been diagnosed with IC, although I never actually heard those words from any of the doctors. Last week (22 weeks pg) I went to my regular OB for a normal appointment w/ an anatomical ultrasound. I had previously had an ultrasound at 18 weeks, but baby was lying in such a way that they were unable to get a good look at some of the organs. So another ultrasound was ordered - Praise God! The ultrasound tech checked my cervix at both appointments. At 18 weeks it was perfectly normal, but 4 weeks later I was 1cm dilated and my cervix was just a little over 1cm long.

I had no symptoms that there was anything wrong. No contractions, bleeding or anything else.

The next day I saw a high risk specialist and was immediately sent to the hospital where I spent the next 5 days. I had a cerclage that increased the length of my cervix to 2cm and I was sent home on bed rest. I can go to the bathroom and shower 1X a day, but other than that I'm supposed to be on the couch or in bed. I'm also not supposed to lift my 18 month old, which is really hard. Mostly because he's too young to understand.

I did dilate early w/ my first pregnancy, but not until 32 weeks. I did 2 weeks of bed rest and then I was allowed to increase my activity a little. I delivered Blue at 37.5 weeks.
