Making the Best of Bed Rest / Harrison William
« on: August 30, 2013 at 05:55 PM »
...was born August 22nd at 8:55am, he weighed 7lbs even and was 22.5 inches long! He came in a hurry and was born after only 4 hours of labor, he tried his best to come in the car and so I had a surprise natural delivery with a med student (the doctor wasn't even in the building yet) and a midwife, haha, the poor med student looked more scared than I was!  My doctor made it just in time to deliver the placenta. It was a very intense experience and, looking back on it, a funny story to be able to tell him when he is older! Scared the wits out of my husband and I though, I was 100% convinced that Harrison was coming in the car!

We are home now and all is going well, we are having some latch issues but are working through them with some help. He is a very laid back little guy and would gladly go 4 hours in between feedings if we let him! We have to wake him up every 2 hours to feed (his doctor wants him fed every 2 hours because he is a tad jaundiced and has lost 7% of his body weight so we need to stay on top of his feeds) and he eats his fill and then goes right back to sleep, no fussing at all. Our daughter was a very fussy baby (she had acid reflux from day 1) so my DH and I are having a hard time figuring out what to do with him! LOL

Our daughter is absolutely in love with her little brother and my husband and I couldn't be happier!

I'm still pregnant this week at 39+1!!! I was in hospital on Friday with contractions every 4 minutes, but they just stopped shortly after I was admitted. So now I am 100% effaced and 4cm dilated (up from 80% and 3cm) with bulging membranes and STILL waiting for labor to start and stay. My little guy is back to being sunny side up so my doctor thinks that's why I keep having this start-stop pattern. Since Friday I've had lots of show and strong but irregular contractions. My next appointment is on Thursday and we're going to talk options then, hopefully a membrane sweep can get things rolling! I still can't believe that 10 weeks and 1 day ago I was in an ambulance on my way to the big hospital with the NICU 3  hours away from  my home town with preterm labor! That night they couldn't get the contractions stopped and were talking c-section by morning the contractions stopped suddenly right before they started the mag. Those were the scariest hours of my life but we made it through!

I hope all you other moms are still pregnant with healthy and happy babies! Good luck to you ladies!!

I am officially 38 weeks (as of yesterday) and no baby for me yet! I was hospitalized 4 times for preterm labor and I've been 75-80% effaced and a little over 3cm dilated for weeks now and as soon as I hit 37 weeks and "term" everything settled down. I haven't had so much as a cramp, let alone contractions that I can time :(

I think he has finally decided that he likes it in my belly and he'd like to stay...wish it was the other way around though, that he would have been cozy at 29 weeks and ready to come now at 38 weeks!!

I hope all the other bed-rest moms are doing well and that your babies are still baking :) Sending positive full-term vibes to everyone!

Congratulations to everyone hitting 36 weeks!!!

I'm officially 37 weeks today! My little guy and I have made it to term! :D

Good luck to the rest of you ladies for happy, healthy and full-term pregnancies :)

Congratulations on your baby boy! :) Sending positive thoughts for a full and speedy recovery to you both!

Thanks ladies!!

And to answer your questions:

1. The first place I went was to the park with my daughter and husband. I haven't been to the park since I went into labor at 29 weeks, when we got there I was so happy I cried, haha. I spent all morning swinging, sliding, and chasing my 4 year old all over the place! It was great!

2. I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday of this week so while I am in town I plan on getting some baby shopping done and taking my daughter to see a movie to catch up on some "mommy/daughter" time.

3. My stamina sucks! After the park I fell asleep on the couch for 3 hours! I get out of breath if I climb stairs and walking up hill is quite the chore. I was very fit going into this pregnancy (I was 115lbs of lean muscle, I did a lot of P90X and crossfit, as well as some yoga and running) and now I feel like a big flabby mess. I did get out for a short walk yesterday evening, and even though it is raining today I'll be going for another walk today. I plan on walking 10 more minutes every day until my little man is born, yesterday I walked for 20 minutes, so I'll see if I can do 30 today. I am also working on some yoga to increase my flexibility and work out some of those bed rest kinks!

I have big news this week: As of yesterday I am 36 weeks and I am officially OFF OF BED REST!!! :D It has been a long 7 weeks and I am thrilled to have made it this far with my little guy still cooking :D

Good luck to the rest of you ladies still on bed rest! Bed rest is tough but definitely worth it to have a healthy baby :)

I am 35 weeks, 1 day!! :D Only one more week of bed rest for me! I've been on bed rest for 6 weeks now (since 29 weeks) due to preterm labor and I'm very much looking forward to living life unrestricted! :D

I'm lookin' like a hot mess right now, but I'm getting my eyebrows waxed and my hair done this week so hopefully that will help!

I had an appointment on Thursday (5 days ago) and I was 3cm dilated and 75% effaced, my doctor said that I could to any time, could be today or it could still be a few weeks. Only time will tell, I guess.

I hope the rest of you ladies are doing well!

I am not sure of your medical situation or your baby's but perhaps an amnio-infusion is something you could discuss with your care team?

It by no means guarantees the health/survival of your baby, but if you are a candidate, it may give your baby a chance.

Good luck! I sincerely hope that things improve for you and your baby. Sending positive thoughts your way.

34 weeks as of yesterday :D, 2 more weeks of bed rest left and then I'm free! :D

As for an inspiring song I would have to say that mine is the "just keep swimming" song that Dory sang on the movie Finding Nemo, haha. A little strange, I know, but it helps me to sing it in my head when I'm feeling frustrated or fed up with all of this bed rest stuff.

I hope everyone else is doing well!

I have no experience with it, but I just wanted to say that I am sending positive thoughts your way. I hope that your fluid levels go up and that your baby comes through this ok.
