Roll Call for Monday February 21
« on: February 21, 2011 at 08:12 AM »
Can't wait to hear all your updates! I think we have several moms moving into 30 weeks and beyond.

So here's what I'm looking forward to this week: My sister has her 19/20 week ultrasound on Thursday! Of course I'm excited to find out if she's expecting a girl or a boy, but I'm also anxious to hear what her cervical length is. We have a long family history of preterm birth, so I've always wondered if an early-to-shorten cervix is genetic. (More info on a short cervix as a predictor of preterm birth:  http://www.keepemcookin.com/prevention.aspx)

What are you all looking forward to this week?

Keep 'em cookin', mamas!

Still cooking at 37wks+4days.....despite having dialated 4cm as of Thursday.  I'm extremely hormonal already this morning.  I screamed at the cats and they ran out of the room and having come back.  My grandmother emails me 3-4 times a day to ask if I'm in labor yet, and its annoying the $#it out of me.
We have an ultrasound scheduled for 3pm today, and I'm sad to say I am not at all excited or looking forward to the appointment.  What is wrong with me?

I have a pretty quiet week.  I'm 25wks 2 days today.  No appointments, I'm just keeping my little girl cooking this week.

I am 30 weeks 3 days today and have an ultrasound tomorrow. Last time my cervix was measured at 1.7cm with a cerclage. I hope it is not shortened much this time.

I will be 30 weeks tomorrow (is it sad I had to check the calendar on that one to make sure I wasn't saying wrong number of weeks?). I have another appointment on Wednesday (as usual). I am looking forward to Thursday because my swivel glider chair is being delivered! The baby's room is slowly coming together. I am REALLY looking forward to next week's appointment because if things are still looking good, my doctor might modify my bed rest a little!! I don't know exactly what that's going to entail, but either way modification sounds good to me! I have been a model bed rester and I'm hoping for a reward :) other than this little boy cookin in here!

Annoying things happening lately: shortness of breath, light-headedness, severe night sweats. Luckily laying on my left side takes care of the first 2 problems. Any suggestions for the night sweats?! I literally have to dry myself off during the night and change clothes. I sleep on top of a towel so the sheets don't get soaked!
Put on bed rest at 25 weeks on January 19th with cervix measuring 2.8.
Expecting our first - baby boy Loran Lee Morgan III on May 5th.
Getting induced at 39 weeks + 1 day on Wednesday, April 27th because of preeclampsia.

I'm still here....29 weeks tomorrow.  Also have the Glucose Test tomorrow.  Can't remember the instructions on fasting prior to test.  I believe no food or drink 2 hours before test?  I am having the drink at home and heading to the lab 45 min later so they can draw my blood.  Doctor doesn't want me sitting in lab for hours.  Doctors appointment Wednesday for my weekly cervical check - I hope it's still 2.6 and didn't creep back down to where it was.  Every week I can maintain it at 2.6, the closer I am to having my bedrest modified after 32 weeks, keeping my fingers crossed!
Baby Gia, due May 10th....bedrest since 1/25/11 at 25 weeks, due to shortened cervix (1.6).
C-section scheduled for May 3rd, yea!!!

Hmmm....good question LoransMommy.  I have had this problem, but luckily only my feet.
Maybe you have a thinner set of sheets and thinner blanket to use on the bed?
Sorry, hope it passes soon.

Lanespoli, is there someone you can call to get a refresher on the instructions??  I know every doctor is different, but I had to fast for 12 hours.  Wasn't even allowed to have water.
Good luck - I hope you pass!  I wouldn't wish gestational diabetes on anyone - its tough being pregnant without most of your comfort foods!

I called the doctors office and the nurse told me I can eat a normal breakfast?  Now I am totally confused, I could have swore the doctor told me to fast before the test.  I know pregnancy has made me forget absolutely everything, but I am almost positive I'm supposed to fast!  Being on bedrest without comfort food, now THAT would be tough for sure!

Lanespoli: There are two methods for this test, one is the glucose tolerance test the other is the three hour glucose tolerance test. If you fail the first one, then they'll have you come back for a second one, fasting first. Here's a link to the explanation of these two:
http://diabetes.about.com/od/preventreversetypeii/a/gestdmtests.htm
I would probably not eat anything for 2-3hours prior to the drinking of the beverage (nice way to word that orangy-sugary nastiness!), just to be sure you're blood sugar isn't elevated going into the test.

Hello everyone, I'm now starting my fourth week of bedrest, I'm now 20 weeks, 4 days pregnant with twins. I went back to my regular OB/doc today and they again told me great news. My cervical length is 4.1cm! Those of you who've read some of my posts prior to this know the struggle I'm been having with the two different ultrasonographers and the yo-yo of emotions going between the two of their opinions. My OB doc came into the US room today and did it herself. She printed out pictures and wants me to take them to the specialist to have them see what they are doing differently, since they've never measured my cervix above a 2.7cm, last Tuesday it was 2.6cm.
Anywho - I've come down with a respiratory bug and severe sore throat x 3 days now...which is great... seeing as I can take SO many medications to help with that...  >:(
But bright side- we're all still pregnant, right?!?! All included except Reagan... ;) I know how frustrating it is to wait that last 2-3 weeks on edge. Hang in there Reagan! You're almost through!!!!! Just think! You're already nearly halfway there! When you go into labor, you could jump right to the epidural and have a baby in NO time! The longest process of labor is getting to 5cm... after that it's typically (on average for first time moms) 1.2cm an hour dilation. I hope you have a swift, as-painless-as-possible labor!  :)

@Loransmommy -
Let me know how you like your swivel/rocker! My husband just bought me a leather rocker/recliner lazyboy to lounge in, I figured I would use it to rock the babies but I was eying the swivel/rockers as well. I've been having the night sweats too (along with the shortness of breath)... unfortunately it's normal and other than having a mini-fan at your bedside to turn on as needed, there's not much you can do. The shortness of breath and lightheadedness are from a combination of things...
A.) The pressure of the growing uterus pushes up on your lungs, making it nearly impossible to fill them and breath deeply & normally, especially lying down because the uterus rises up. Turning to the side displaces the weight of the uterus and makes it easier for your lungs to fill.
B.) The pressure of your womb while laying down flat or nearly flat compresses two of your major blood vessels, one taking blood away, and one bringing it back. This causes your blood pressure to increase, and in some women, reflex-tachycardia which means an increase in heart-rate to attempt to increase circulation, all causing lightheadedness. Elevate your shoulders/head behind 2-3 pillows to help with the breathing, or just turn to your side. It's better to be on your side because the blood supply to the baby increases on your side as well. All of those discomforts are nature's way of making sure your baby gets the most optimal blood supply while you sleep. I'm right there with you though. I'm 20weeks, 4 days (twins), so my womb is nearly the same size as yours. I know a lot of women who've had to sleep in recliners the latter part of the pregnancy to enable a decent night's sleep.
Great to hear everyone's doing well and still baking!
