3rd Time's a Charm I hope!
« on: March 07, 2011 at 11:00 PM »
Hi all!

I was browsing online for information o high risk pregnancies and came along this group and I'd like to share my story with you.

Pregnancy #1

I have always had irregular periods from the time I first started them, and wasn't trying to conceive when I did; but in February of 2009, I found out that I was expecting.  Naturally this took me by surprise, and after the shock I became super excited and began to prepare for a new baby.  I started building a house (not by myself obviously!) and just prepping for the beginning of my new life as a mommy.  At 17 weeks I began having contractions (which apparently feel like period cramps something to which I am not familiar...you can say I'm lucky that way).  I first thought that it was gas or indigestion, but the pain continued to progressively get worse and worse. I finally went to the emergency room to find out that my son did not have a heart beat.  I was sent up to labor and delivery and delivered my stillborn son on 3 June 2009.  I was completely devastated and confused.  I had gone to the doctor only a few days before and everything was OK.  I had even found out that I was having a little boy and it all just came to a crashing halt.  It turns out that I had bacterial vaginosis which caused the preterm labor.  Naturally I decided I wouldn't try to conceive again until I felt I was ready.  I spoke with my doctor about the chances of something like this happening again in subsequent pregnancies to which I was assured that the chances were very rare.  About a year later, I was speaking with my partner about trying to have another baby.  It was strange because I became pregnant within a month of that conversation....talk about shock (I hadn't had a period since March of 2010 and became pregnant in July...

Pregnancy #2

This time around, I was super excited and told myself that I would be hyper-vigilant with this pregnancy and if anything felt wrong or out of place that I would contact my doctor.  This pregnancy was coming along fine...uneventful and boring for which I was very thankful.  That was until November 5 of last year at my 20 week check up.  Upon reviewing the ultrasound, it was discovered that my cervix had began to dilate and I was airlifted to another hospital to have a rescue cerclage placed.  After which I was placed on bed rest.  Unfortunately, two weeks later, my daughter was born at 22 weeks old - too young to survive and I held her as she passed on to be with her big brother.

I decided that I wanted to try again as soon as possible to conceive again.  I figured that it would take me a while with my irregularity.  I had started a diet to get back into shape and was doing great when recently I just became very very tired.  I was abnormally tired so I took a pregnancy test.  It was negative so I continued to go on about my life.  But I continued to be tired and I just felt "different".  I tested a couple weeks later and I got a positive result!  I was a bit surprised because I wasn't expecting things to happen so soon, but excited then scared with the happenings of the first two pregnancies.  So now I am hoping that this third time around, I will be able to bring home a healthy and beautiful baby home with me rather than a memory box.  I don't know how far along I am yet...I have appointment next week, but I'm very excited and hopeful that this year will be better than the last.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the bouts of anxiety I have every now and then?  Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Hello! Im new to "keepemcookin" but this is my second pregnancy and at 20 wks my ob saw in my u/s that my cervix were funneling and sent me to a peri. Two days later I was scheduled to have a cerclage placed. In most cases 20 wks is too late, but so far mine has held I also get weekly 17p injections. Maybe bring this up at your first Dr. visit they have what is called a "preventive cerclage" its done between 11 - 14 weeks. GOOD LUCK! AND GOD BLESS!

Thank you for your input.  This is something my doctor discussed with me after my second loss.  We are also looking into what I have found to be called a transabdominal cerclage.  I will keep you all posted!

Thank you again!  :)

I am so sorry for your loss.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever been checked for a clotting disorder? Especially after two losses.

Anyway, I'm pregnant again after losing my son two days after he was born last June. I'm not on bedrest (yet) but I can't imagine how you feel, especically after two significant losses.

How many weeks along are you now? Much love and light to you

xo Michelle

I am always amazed by the strength of mommies who have lost their angel babies. You are amazing for working so hard to make sure you get to bring home a healthy baby and it will happen! I have anxiety disorder & suffered SEVERAL anxiety attacks while on bed rest (23weeks). One of the things that helped me was herbal heat packs. Weird I know. But when warmed up they emit a soothing smell. Kind of lavender and chamomile scent. It helped me to relax. I would place the pack on my shoulders so the heat would relax my muscles & the smell would soothe me. Give it a try! And keep us updated!

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. Yes, they checked me for a clotting disorder after my first loss and everything was normal. The second was due to an incompetent cervix. I had to go to the ER last night for bleeding. There was a lot of clotting. They did an ultrasound and saw the sac, but nothing inside. They said that was normal since I'm early into the pregnancy, but one abnormally large clot they sent off for testing to see whether or not it was my pregnancy...I am waiting til tomorrow for the results. Until then, I am on bed rest.

After going to the doctor this morning, it has been confirmed.  I miscarried.  :'( So I guess the third time was not a charm for me.  I'm a bit tired of continuing to receive bad news after bad news with my pregnancies.  I'm still going to see the specialist on Friday to see if they can provide me with some help to be more successful in the future.  We will see.
