Monday Roll Call for March 21
« on: March 21, 2011 at 09:10 AM »
Welcome to another Roll Call!

Reading this post (http://forum.keepemcookin.com/index.php?topic=1331.msg3853#msg3853) reminded me of my biggest bedrest regret. I felt so frumpy and depressed that the last thing I wanted to do was be around other people. But that was exactly what I needed! I didn't want people to see my messy house and unstyled hair, and I felt like I wouldn't be a very good host. You know what? Your real friends don't care one bit! Those few times that I invited a friend over, or told a family member what I needed to make bedrest just a little bit easier, THAT is what I remember. Even now I'm still thankful for my college roommate who brought me my favorite chicken salad sandwich! Invite people into your space, and see how it makes you feel.

So back to Roll Call, my dears. How many weeks are you? How are you feeling? Any appointments coming up? What will you be looking forward to this week?

Keep 'Em Cookin', mamas!

Hello ladies

I am 34 weeks now. I had a trip to L&D over the weekend. I was having lots of contractions and some were very painful. On the monitor I was contracting alot but they said it was just irritability and I had a few big ones. They couldnt find any reason for the contractions, no infection or anything and I wasn't dilated. I have a drs appt tomorrow and also an u/s to check the baby's growth.

Trying to keep the baby in for another few weeks.

Good Morning Ladies,

I am at 27w5d today! I have my weekly dr. appt on Friday. I do have an UPDATE from last Fridays appt. She grew a whole 6oz! So we are now excited to have a 2lb2oz baby girl!

This week I am scheduled to do the 28 week Glucose test. How did this go for those of you that have been throught it before? Are there any signs to having gestational diab.? Was the sugar drink really yucky or do people just say that?

@ Angela: I think you are so right about the visitor comment. I am usually an entertainer. So this whole have people over to your house when you haven't showered in 2 days thing was a little challenging at first! But boy do I agree, everytime I have a friend/family member stop by I always feel like a million ucks once they leave. It is just the simple gesture of them taking time out of their day to come spen time with you! You may be on a crazy journey for months and weeks on end, but those little visits have kept me going!

@Arnee Well, I am sorry you have to go into L&D this weekend. But glad to hear that is as far as it went! My sister is actually on bedrest right now too, she is at 34w4d and is hoping to make it to 36w! I will be praying for you too! Hope your appt goes well tomorrow. Do they check the babies growth every week for you? I always like to know how much that little one has grown!

Checking in! :)

I'm 31 wks in & still baking away! I have a ultrasound tomorrow so I'm hoping all is well...My dr appointment last week went well & dr thinks I'll go full term since I'm doing very well considering I'm on my 9th wk of modified bed rest..Fingers crossed he's right! I had some stinging sensations last wk & he told me it was most likely due to baby's positioning since he's still breech ugh..I hope baby turns soon  :-\

Hey folks, I'm hanging in there at 24weeks, 4 days today with twins. I was closed today in the office, and they did a fetal fibronectin which was negative, so 96% assured no preterm delivery in the next 2 weeks at least! That makes me feel better. My husband thinks I'm going to use it as an excuse to be more liberal in my bedrest, but I'm just happy I have two more weeks at least to bake them.  :D

Aylw88 - Good for you! Exciting to think you might actually make it through this to term and take your baby home right away! I've seen babies turn as late as 38 weeks, so there's hope yet!

Bwilson - Wonderful, you are doing a great job growing your little angel! I had the same reaction two weeks ago when they told me my twins were 1lb4oz & 1lb2oz. I felt proud. The GD screen is pretty gross, unless you like sunkist (I happen to love diet sunkist), but it is really sugary. There aren't any definitive signs to know of cue you into having gestational diabetes prior to the test. Most women have no idea. Of course, eating healthy and exercising during pregnancy (which NONE of us are allowed to do right now!) helps in decreasing the chances of having it by around 50%. I figure eat healthy things and if you have it, you have it. Nothing we can do to exercise and fix it... Now they will put you on a carb/calorie-restricted diet if you do, but it's not that bad.

Good luck everyone! Hope you all have a good week. :)
Due date: 7/7/2011
Twins (we're not finding out the sexes!)
5th pregnancy (5yrs old-put on bedrest with her @ 35wks for PIH)
3 previous losses
Put on bedrest this pregnancy @ 17weeks for Cervical shortening & preterm labor
Thanking God for each day I'm given with my twins!

Hi all,

I've been looking around on this website for a week or so now and this is my first post.

First of all let me say thank you to everyone, I have found this website so helpful and encouraging, I don't feel so alone!

I am 29 weeks along today, bed rest for 2 weeks now.  I have a 23 month old that my mom has been taking care of at our house which has been great.  I have my next appt tomorrow so hopefully I can stay at home!

I had a cerclage placed at 17 weeks when my cervix got down to 1.5cm.  I had been seeing the high risk ob since 13 weeks due to my 1st son being born early and I was in the hospital on and off with him from 31 weeks on until I delivered at 36w4d.  The day after my cerclage I went home and my cervix was 3.9cm long.  It stayed that way until 2 weeks ago, it dropped to 2.99cm so I was sent home on strike bed rest and nifedipine.  When I went last week it was 3.2 so I've been on modified bed rest since then.  I have been really nervous to do too much though because I don't want to be back in the hospital on the mag like last time!
Mom to RJ born at 36.5 days bed rest from31 weeks on
Mom to Dylan born at 35.4 weeks tvc placed at 13 weeks, bed rest from27 weeks on
Abdominal cerclage placed in December 2011
Currently trying to conceive

Hello ladies!!!  I'm now 37 wks 2 days.  I had a docs apt. on frid. and found that i'm 4 cms dial. and, of course 100% effaced ( have been since 22 wks). The docs. thought the baby was breeched and were schedulig a c section for this tues, but did an u/s and found he was facing down - thank GOD.  I really am hoping for vaginal delivery.  The doc. wants to see me tomorrow at 9:30am so lets see where i stand and what happens.  I'm going into my 16th week on bedrest (4 months, unbelievable) and am exhausted beyond words.

mckoygirl - congrats on a negative ffn - that should bring some ease of mind.

arenee22 - I found my BH contractions  more and more painful the further along i was. The good thing is that your contractions are not causing dialation and that's always great news.

Allison - Welcome!  This forum helps beyond words - i'm really glad you found it!  Keep your legs up and don't pick-up your 23 month old - I have a 21 month old and i haven't picked her up for 4 months now.  I know it's really difficult, but remember it is only temporary.  Soon you'll be up with all your family.

As always, praying for lots of strength and patience to all the mommies on bedrest.
Elizabeth

Happy Monday Bedrest Mommies...  I'm still baking away as well, will be 33 weeks tomorrow.  I have an appointment this Wednesday and will probably have lots of questions.

I haven't been feeling too well.  The mornings I'm okay, except my hands always kill me, I can't even make a fist, although they don't look swollen.  As the day progesses, I start feeling absolutely horrible.  Come dinner time, the tightening starts and is usually quite often, although if they are BH contractions, they don't hurt at all, they really just frighten me.  No position has become comfortable for me except for standing, which I am not supposed to do that much.  The baby was still breech as of last week and she measured 3 lbs. 11 ozs, which I was hoping she'd be a little bigger.  They also stopped checking my cervix last week transvaginally and moved me to modified bedrest with an outing a day - although everytime I have tried to do that it has been extremely tiring and just walking from the parking lot to a restaurant seems like a mile long.  I dread the night coming b/c as I said I start feeling very uncomfortable laying or sitting and the tightening begins.  Sleep has also become obsolete for me.  I seriously don't know how I am going to do this for another 6 weeks, I am huge and soooooo uncomfortable!!!

Being a first timer, I just don't know what is normal and what isn't.  The tightening is just tightening with no pain or anything so I never know if it's the baby or contractions.  The baby has also slowed wayyyy down in movement which has been freaking me out.  I even try drinking juice and it doesn't seem to faze her.  I will maybe feel her lightly about 3 times a day or when she has the hiccups.  She definately does not do 10 kick counts anymore.

BWILSON - I didn't think the orange drink was bad at all.  They had me drink it at home and told me to refrigerate it first and then drink it over ice.  I used a straw and sucked it right down.  I failed the first test, so had to do it again with double the drink and that wasn't bad either.  They had me do the 2nd test at the drs with a glucose test kit (prick in finger) instead of going to the lab b/c of my bedrest.  I brought a cup of ice there to chill it before I drank it.  2nd test came back fine!

Welcome Alison!  Good luck this week everyone :)

Lori

My blood pressure was up at last weeks appt, but they said it was still okay.  Usually I'm around 100 -110, last week I was up to 124.
Baby Gia, due May 10th....bedrest since 1/25/11 at 25 weeks, due to shortened cervix (1.6).
C-section scheduled for May 3rd, yea!!!

BW-no, they dont give me a growth check every week, I think the dr just wants to make sure the baby is ok.

Lori-As far as the kick counts go, I have read a couple of different things, I have read 10 in an hour and also 10 in 2 hours. I would ask your dr about it.

lanespoli - i know what you mean about your hands.  The joints in my hand are killing me - to the point where i can't make a fist and it only seems to be getting worse.  Nights are also tougher for me than the morning and rest of the day.  I almost found myself going to L&D last night because contractions were about 20 minutes apart and i decided to get-up very early and lay in the couch to continue timing the contractions for another hr., and I don't know if it was because it was early morning or because it was the couch vs. my bed, the contractions extended to every hr. to hr. and a half, so i decided not to go to L&D.

Elyp - Sorry you're going through the same thing, although I am relieved that I'm not going crazy!  Everytime I tell someone about my hands (ie, ob & specialist), they just shrug it off with no explanation.  Reminds me of the time a couple of months ago and forgive my TMI but,  for weeks and weeks I would tell the doctors I felt really itchy "down there", but more near urinary hole especially at night.  They told me to use some cortisone cream.  I knew it was a yeast infection, but they just seemed to shrug it off at the time.  I would complain, and complain week after week, then they finally did a culture and sure enough I had a yeast infection that I needed to treat.  I just really feel like there is something not normal going on with my hands and wish someone would address it or give me a reason for it!

I figure we'd know if they were real contractions based on pain, would that be accurate?  Does anyone know?  I've already been to L & D twice for false alarms, so I'm trying not to waste their time anymore....

I made it to roll call and it's still Monday!! I am 30 weeks tomorrow and planning on cookin for a while longer! I am on bedrest for pre-eclampsia and my blood pressure is holding steady right now. My little guy, Eli, was breech but has flipped. Thank God. He has decided head down feels so good that he'll go even further down. I am carrying so low now that I can hardly keep my underwear and pants up. There is no "front" for them to be on. That also means it is hard to sit upright for long periods, I have to stay reclined to stay somewhat comfortable. I hear all you ladies about nights being hardest. I dread night coming. I am getting an average of 4.5 hrs of sleep a night. I can't sleep until I am so exhausted that sleep overcomes me. after 4.5 hrs my body has rested enough that I am not exhausted enough to sleep through the pain. My issue seems to be my hips hurting after only a few minutes on my side and my legs feel like they don't want to be still. At least with Eli so low I am breathing easier and my food tends to stay in my stomach vs. my esophagus. I also found out from my massage therapist last week that I had ripped the muscles on the front of my leg/groin area. I guess from sitting for the last 7 weeks contracted/shortened those muscles and then I get up and walk to my bathroom and cause tiny tears in the muscles. No one will ever be able to tell me bedrest is easy, I never knew it could hurt this much. I am going to sign off now and go put some ice on my crotch!! I am proud of you all for sacrificing so much for the sake of your babies. Keep it up ladies!

Corrie
Mother of 3 blessings. #4 on the way. On bedrest at 23 weeks due to Pre-Eclampsia.

Lanespoli - More than likely the pain in your hands is from carpal tunnel. It's pretty common in pregnancy. I've included a link about it:

http://www.babycenter.com/0_carpal-tunnel-syndrome-during-pregnancy_234.bc

I've started having some of the symptoms of it as well, and that's what I believe it is. Women retain a lot of fluid during the latter half of the pregnancy, and even though your hands don't LOOK swollen, it doesn't take much to cause neurological problems like this. My hands aren't swollen at all and I'm having the discomfort.

As far as the "tightening" goes, it probably is contractions. Feel your stomach when you have them and see if it gets firm (as in chin or forehead firm). It should if they are contractions. Contractions also last from 50-90 seconds (approx) and are climactic. They will build and build and reach a peak, then slowly ease off. Contractions that are painful (tightening plus menstrual cramp-like) are USUALLY what you need to start timing for labor, but always call your OB if you aren't sure. Some contractions are normal during pregnancy, as the baby goes through growth spurts and your uterus gets irritable. If they get regular, every 10 minutes or less for two hours (that's what we typically tell our patients), then call your Doc if you haven't already. Contractions are timed from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next.

The kick count sheet is more for your benefit. The minimum a baby should move is ten times in 2 hours. I've included a helpful kick count website that explains how to do it, what time of day, what to drink/eat beforehand, and how to lay:

http://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/kickcounts.htm

Unfortunately, most of us on this forum know all about the discomforts at night. I haven't slept well for two weeks and I'm only 24 weeks 4 days (twins). I ache in my neck, hands, back, legs (shins especially), and my tummy pulls every which way I lay. My husband jokes about it (one day, I may lose my patience for that! >:( ).

Hang in there, this too shall pass!!!

Wow, THANK YOU McKoygirl!!  Your information was very helpful!  My little Gia definately doesn't move 10 times in 2 hours anymore which I will ask about on Wednesday.  And the contractions usually are not accompanied by cramps which I am taking as a good sign.

I really, really appreciate your input :)...thank you again!

Lori :)

It seemed to me that I wasn't feeling as many kicks and I did a counting chart as per my doctor's request. Basically, as long as it's consistent then it's fine...meaning, if it takes you 2 or 3 hours each day to feel 10 kicks, you're good. If it takes 20 minutes each day, you're fine. Or even 5 hours...as long as it is about the same everyday. My sheet said that if it takes longer than 10 hours to feel 10 kicks then call your doctor.

I'm having the hand problem too, definitely pregnancy induced carpel tunnel (sp?). I feel it in my ankles sometimes too.

So I just experienced something SUPER fun (not really)...I just had the worst heartburn ever. Worse than I've ever had so far. So bad I had to get off the phone with my mom. I just couldn't even talk. Anyway, finally it just flat made me puke. So as I'm throwing up, I've got the toilet water splashing back up in my face and all over my shirt and (this is the super fun part), I start peeing on myself as I puke. Jeeze. I mean, really? Did this really just happen?! I called my mom after and was like "yeah, so I think I just reached the all time low of pregnancy symptoms..." and told her what happened. My brother and I are both adopted because my parents were never able to conceive and my mom's response as we both laughed was "well, I guess I didn't really miss out on too much with never being pregnant!" I wonder if my current bladder infection has anything to do with why that happened? Anyway, sorry if that was TMI but I figure, we're all pregnant here and when it comes to the stuff that really goes down, we can just share all!

So now for the update...34 weeks tomorrow! I go to the doctor on Wednesday, as usual. Last week my dr told me how great I've been and that I can do a weekly outing other than the doctor visit. She said I may get to do more depending on this week's appointment! Although, I get so tired when I'm up more. It just takes so much out of me!
Put on bed rest at 25 weeks on January 19th with cervix measuring 2.8.
Expecting our first - baby boy Loran Lee Morgan III on May 5th.
Getting induced at 39 weeks + 1 day on Wednesday, April 27th because of preeclampsia.
