New: 28 wks with preterm labor
« on: December 01, 2011 at 04:14 PM »
Hello ladies.
Real quick history: one stepchild (the easiest to birth!) 2 uncomplicated pregs,
one early loss, Now almost 29 wks with a boy. I have had "hicks" since wk 15. Once so
Frequent I went into labor and delivery but I was too early for
The machines to read anything. I live in a crappy medical area with
No NICU and they only started giving epidurals 3 months ago.

I am 36 so high risk. Had to drive 3 Hrs for a 3d ultrasound at 20 wks
And all looked good. Had concerns about cervical length but it was
3 cm and I am told that was fine.

Had bad menstral like cramps Monday.  Negative fibronectin test but was told
Cervix soft but closed. Wednesday I think I lost mucus plug... Today a couple
Drops of bright red blood when wipe but not in mucus and no cramping today.
Told by doctor to take it easy and I have ... But I was before they told me to!
Still extremely tired and wish I could get bed rest to sleep more! And I
Am getting a good 8 hrs a night!

I live three hour drive from anywhere my child could be delivered early and
I don't think, just because my test came out negative that their answer
Should be to take it easy.

I can't help but to worry.

Cindy.

I"m 28 weeks and been contracting since 8 weeks, went in to L&D at 25 and got a positive FFN with another at 27.  Bed rest since 25 and been to L&D 8 times to stop/check the contractions.  Can you get a second opinion?  When I first went in at 25 they weren't picking up my contractions and I swear thought I was crazy.  But I insisted and they moved the monitor, sure enough they started picking them up.  You know your body best, if something doesn't feel right let them know.  I knew something was wrong well before we got the positive test.  Call your OB and say you would just feel better if you could come in and be checked.  Hang in there!

So... I was very wrong. I am less then a
Week into bed rest and I am bored, feeling
Guilty that I can't help, and restless. I
Know laying down is best but I just want
To clean my house, do my dishes...!

Doctor saw me last Friday and put me on
Modified bed rest, which my husband has
Taken upon himself to define as not allow
Me to do more than pee.

Over the weekend I took note on when my
Pain happened... It was after being active...
Walking up the stairs, Making Mac and cheese
For the kids for Lunch... Walking the small
Tree lot to get my Xmas tree started a 2 hr
Every 2-8 minute bout of contractions for
Two hours.

When I saw doctor again Monday she said
I will be on bed rest until week 36.... !
Diagnosis with irritable uterus.
Next Monday do another FFN. Hoping it stays
Negative.

The first week is the worst and I promise it gets better after that.  My first weeek I about tore my hair out and had a bit of an emotional breakdown.  I'm in the same boat, I get up and get active contractions start and we're off to L&D.  My uterus "doesn't like having a baby in it"(seriously what the Dr. said) and I have a lot of fluid so it does't take much to get me going.  So I have to let the mess, dishes, laundry go...for now.  I am allowed up to potty, get me/kids food, and take DD to and from preschool.  I"ve gotten into a routine, and that seems to help as well.  When I do get up to potty I may stash something in my hospital bag on the way back or put something away if its on my way.  I would be in serious trouble if DH came home and the kitchen was cleaned.  My amazing husband got me a early Christmas present with this laptop and that has help sooooo much.  I got a city building game to play on it and it really helps pass the time.  I was told bedrest until 35 weeks and she doesn't think we'll make it too far after that anyway.  Hang in there!  Remember we are giving weeks for them to have a lifetime.
