22 weeks and funneling down to cerclage
« on: March 11, 2014 at 03:40 PM »
I am 2 days shy of 22 weeks and have been on bed rest since 16 with a cerclage at 18 after finding that my cervix had shortened to 1cm. had 2 follow ups after cerclage that both showed cervix at around 2cm. just went back today for the third follow up mad cervix was showing lengths of as large as 2.6 to as small as 1.4 (drs said cervix is dynamic) and funneling at times right up against my cerclage. I haven't felt any abnormal pressure or anything and the stitch is still holding strong. my dr said basically I should remain on bed rest but that besides that and the vaginal progesterone there is nothing they can do until we get to at least 23.5 weeks.. I am not having any contractions but am just wondering are they doing all that they can? we are so close to 24 weeks and couldn't imagine getting so close just to be told that things are out of their hands..

It sounds like you are doing great! Shortening to the cerclage can be expected, so for you to still have some "extra" is good to hear.  And it seems like your docs are really on the ball: With a cerclage, progesterone and bedrest, you have all the bases covered. I have seen MANY MANY moms with that combination of interventions go all the way to term! And that is even with a history of previous premature delivery.

I understand your worries completely. Control what you can, and let go of the rest. You job is to just sit tight, think positively, and be proactive if you have any symptoms of preterm labor ( Keep us posted here, and I hope you can join us in the Chat Room next Tuesday at 2 pm EDT. You can meet other moms who will completely relate!

Maybe if you are on bedrest, have someone put something stable under the foot of your bed. It will keep any kind of pressures you may be having off of your cervix. I had to lay in this position at the hospital with my son for two weeks. It may's called the t-burg position...I'm sorry I can't help you more, hope it helps!
