Open cervix
« on: December 31, 2014 at 02:03 AM »
Hello everyone I am new to this group so I'll give a brief on my experience so far, I have had 2 healthy pregnancies and am currently 26 weeks preggo with my third but this time it's very different I was diagnosed with a incompetent cervix at 20 weeks measuring 1.4cm it had stayed stable until yesterday where I was told my cervix is now open but has some length on it, the ultrasound lady said my waters where bulging but wen the doc checked he said he couldn't see them, I was given steroid injections and sent home. They have told me that's all they can do that if anything changed to go back in so now it's just a waiting game I could go into labour at anytime or I could hold on. I really don't no wat to expect and i know pregnancy is unpredictable at the best of times but I just wish I had more answers. Has anyone been through this and wat has ur experience been?

Hi Tania, welcome to the group! I'm so sorry for what you're going through but if you read through the posts on here you will find others with very similar stories who had happy outcomes. I am only 24 weeks, I had a emergency cerclage placed at 20 weeks but I had no cervical length unlike you so that's great you have that. I know exactly how it feels to be waiting for something bad to happen, but it really does no good, I am constantly working on ways to distract myself so I am not dwelling on things and freaking out at every twinge I feel ( which is so hard to do!). Right now I'm watching old episodes of the real housewives of New York, I find crappy reality tv the best entertainment whenever I'm feeling on edge, as it requires no brain power to follow! Hope this helps, if anything please know you aren't alone in this.

Hang in there Tania...Like Sorebooby said there are many of us in a very similar situation, and lots of us have made it further then we thought we would. A bit of my story....I am in my 1st pregnancy and was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix at 20 weeks during my scheduled anatomy Ultrasound.  I also had a buldging bag of waters, was dialated to 2cm, and had almost no cervix. The doctor told me that it was maturated (an old persons cervix 75+)  It was the worst few days of my life, the Dr. kept using the terms not viable and long shot. 2 days of laying upside down 7the specialist came to see me and decided that a cerclage and a pessary were the best forms of action, but he couldn't be sure he could do it until we were prepped and ready to go in the OR...he needed to see if I had ruptured as well as making sure the bag had not descended any further out. It hadn't and he preformed the surgery! Yippy.. I was discharged from the hospital the next day and sent home to lay in bed or sit on the couch for the remainder of my pregnancy. .....Well here I am today 12 weeks later at 32 weeks! Today was my doctors goal for me to get to and I have surpassed that goal. This forum has helped me through the tough times, mostly I just read others posts, and sometimes I actually post. The women on here are going through the same things we are, utilize us and the knowledge that we have about the whole process. The scary, roller coaster of emotions that come with pregnancy complications and bedrest. Along with sorebooby (love the name btw) I watched a lot of TV throughout the first month and a half. It made my days feel shorter and I didn't have to think much. The last month and a half I have been crafting, and getting what I can in order for the little one to arrive. Hang in there with us you already have 6 weeks under your belt! You Can Do this!

I also was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix at 23.6 weeks the doctor said that I was on the border line for a cerclage. I spent 3 days in the hospital and given progesterone. I was readmitted 2 weeks later and my cervix has shortened more and I am 1cm dilated. My doctor has put me on strict bedrest until I have this little boy.  Be encouraged anc watch lots of movies, I'm going to try crocheting to pass the time.
