A Blood Test to Predict Your Personal Risk of Preterm Birth Goes Nationwide

Are you three times more likely to deliver a preterm baby than other women? A new test can tell you.

This ground-breaking test is called PreTRM and it measures the levels of two specific proteins in the blood of  moms-to-be. The test is now available across the country, following the release of study results in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

What makes this test so valuable is that a woman doesn’t have to have any current symptoms or known risk factors to assess her risk. More than 50 percent of women who deliver prematurely don’t have any of the common risk factors, such as smoking, preexisting health conditions or a lack of prenatal care. For the majority of women, a preterm birth comes as a complete surprise.
