Today has been a really tough day! I am writing from South Africa, and my husband and I have used a surrogate to carry our twin boys. The surrogate has a history of preterm labour, but because her last child was born at full term, our fertility specialist cleared her to carry.
At 17 weeks, there was a bleed, and the surrogate was put on bed rest for 2 weeks with 200mg progesterone x2 per day, cervix was 5cm, no funneling. At 18 week check, cervix was at 4cm, bleeding had stopped. At 20 weeks, cervix measured 2.5 cm and bed rest and same medication was prescribed, at week 22 w, cervix measure 1.9 cm with funneling - steroid injections were given x3 each 18hrs apart, but told if delivered, there may be long term disabilities.
Today, at 23w5d, we are told to prepare for a miscarriage as our surrogate is fully effaced, and 1cm dilated - Dr says it should be 'over' within the next day or 2. I am sad beyond words and I don't know how to get through this! Are there any recent happy endings?
