How long did your rescue/emergency cerclage hold???
« on: June 22, 2017 at 06:11 PM »
At 21 weeks I had less than 1cm of cervix left, bulging membranes and fingertip dilated. I had a rescue cerclage placed after doctor was able to push back in my daughters sac. I was in the hospital for 3 days after procedure and have been on strict bed rest, vaginal suppositories, procardia ever since. I am now 25weeks and 3 days. My doctor said we are lucky if we got through the first 48 hours and after that lucky if we make it 5 weeks. Of course I am hoping to carry to term and wondering how long everyone was able to go with their cerclage. Looking for hope.

Hello , I had an emergency cerclage at 16 weeks with 2 cm left. After the cerclage my cervix kept going down, and I was to the stitch at 23 weeks with no measurable cervix. I will be 32 weeks tomorrow! I have been on bed rest for 4 months, no one thought we would make it this far! Keep having faith, it seems like these cerclages are pretty strong!

I have a completely new perspective to add to your question. I got my cerclage around 20 weeks.

I just had the baby yesterday (Saturday am at 8:23 am). The ONLY thing keeping her in WAS the cerclage... (and I was having fierce contractions).  So ... yeah. Pending your doctor's work, that sucker will hold.

Hi Dana. Thank you for answering at what week did you give birth. Did you make it to term? Did you have bulging membranes or anything when they placed it?  All these stories give me hope. I'm still holding at 25 weeks. Have appt on wednesday to see how everything is looking. I will update everyone.

Kate369 thank you for replying. Other than having 2cm left did you have any bulging membranes? Congratulations on making into the 30's. Thank you for the hope!!

No, I didn't this time. I lost my first baby at 19 weeks. I went in the ER with bleeding to find out I was 7cm dialated with bulging membranes. There was no way they could help me at that point. So this time they watched me closer with ultrasound. That's when we found out at 16 weeks it was starting to go down again. Thankful we caught it this time. Sounds like you're doing great!!! And so awesome you made it over 24 weeks!!!

Thank you so much Kate. I'm hoping to hear good news on Wednesday. Did you feel any different when you were down to your stitch? Lots of contractions prior to finding out you were down to the stitch?  I barely have contractions now with all the meds so I'm hoping I still have my almost 2cm of cervix left.

The crazy thing is I never had any contractions till recently, now that I'm in the 30s I've felt lots of pressure and contractions. But before I had no idea I was down to the stitch! I think the cerclage and bedrest has really been the reason I have made it this far! And if your cervix keeps going down don't be discouraged, I kept telling myself even though it went down we've made it another week and baby is still cooking!

Kate, darn it. I thought the no contractions would for sure mean I wasn't going down on my cervix measurement. Well fingers crossed. I will update Everyone Wednesday. Thank you. !:)

Hi Jessica! Saturday was 32 weeks and no I did not make it to term. Perhaps I was unclear. I went into pre-term labor with my daughter (Saturday) and the cerclage was the only thing stopping her from literally coming on the way to the hospital. I had no other signs of her coming ... no dilation/effacement, water breaking/membrane rupture or bulging. When they originally placed the cerclage (around 20 weeks) I had funneling with a little less than 2 cm of closed cervix left and I was not dilated.

Let me know if that is any clearer. Sometimes I leave important details out on accident.  :-\

Hi Dana just saw your message. I'm so glad the cerclage helped you at least get to 32 weeks. How is your baby now?  Were you on bedrest and or any meds after cerclage?

Hi again Jessica,

I was on bedrest at home until 28/29 weeks. Then I was on modified bedrest until Saturday. I had meds after the cerclage but didn't need any of them - I just rested and when the anesthesia wore off, I was in a good place. I also didn't move much for the following 2 - 3 days except to use the restroom. After that I was able to get up and heat food or use the restroom.

UPDATE...... I went to specialist yesterdat for a check up. I'm currently 26 weeks, baby looks amazing and she's actually measuring a week ahead :). My cervix did shorten this visit 1.9cm after cerclage to 1.4cm and still have u-shaped funneling but cerclage is holding.  As of today I have already made it farther then the doctors thought I ever would. So we continue to take it week by week and try to get as close to 30 weeks as possible. I'm being very strict with my bedrest, I only get up to bathroom and shower sitting every other day but she said that when I'm laying I need to be diligent in elevating my pelvis so I will work on that. I go back to normal ob on the 10th I will be 28 weeks then. Prayers and lots of baby dust that I can prove everyone wrong and make it closer to 36 ??????I will keep you all updated

My cervix was 1.7cm with twins at 20 weeks, got an emergency cerclage and I'm just shy of 34 weeks now . Last cervical length was 2.7cm on Thursday!
