Funneling Cervix WITH cerclage
« on: August 01, 2017 at 06:14 AM »
Hello Everyone,
I'm currently pregnant....19.1 weeks and when I went to dr for ultrasound on Friday they discovered that my cervix was funneling from the inside and my cervix measured .78 cm (7.88mm). I had a cerclage placed in at about 14 weeks due to incompetent cervix.
My daughter will be 7 months on the 10th of this month and I had a preventative cerclage put in when I was pregnant with her at 16 weeks. No bed rest and my dr didn't check the length due to not wanting to irritate the cervix. However when I got ultrasound at 20 weeks he said cervix was measuring normal.
Two different doctors, two different types of cerclage. My current dr could not get my first cerclage out when my water broke and due to insurance I lost my original dr that put my first cerclage in so my current dr couldn't get the cerclage out so when she did the cerclage this time herself she said she did it differently due to last cerclage being so difficult. However I am now 19 weeks with funneling...my dr has no plan on what's next or what to do however she said we will not check my cervix again. Sure only instruction is to stay off of my feet as much as possible. I feel so helpless and upset due to not wanting to loose another baby...this is my 6th pregnancy and only have one living child. And my dr not having a plan...she still only wants to see me in 4 weeks. I have been doing my best at staying n bed or off my feet.
Reaching out for prayers, thoughts or any suggestions anyone may have.
Also I'm not sure if my dr know anything about progesterone suppositories or injections...I have seen a couple of people mention that on previous threads. Is that something I should bring up to her? Would it help with my cervix?

TIA
Jenn

I would ask for either vaginal progesterone or the injections, also if you are having any contractions I would ask for procardia as well. Continue to do bedrest and pelvic rest no orgasms either. Hopefully you cerclage will hold even if you funnel all the way down to it. There have been many ladies on here who have funneled all the way down and cerclage held and they made it to 30+ weeks. I have funneled down to my stitch but have about 1.4 after it and it's holding closed. I am 31 weeks. When I had my cerclage placed at 21 weeks I had no measureable cervix, bulging membranes and was dilated. I was told I would make it past 26 weeks and here I am beating the odds. Keep your hopes up and hopefully some other ladies can share success stories with you.

I talked to dr today and we are going to start injections as soon as the come in.  And I'm not having contraction now hopefully thu won't come but I'm praying and hoping everything goes well and my cerclage and cervix hold up. I'm off my feet as much as possible so hopefully that also will help. Are you taking anything now or before with your cerclage?? Injections or suppositories??

I am on 100mg vaginal suppositories at night. Procardia 10mg every 6 hours to prevent contractions. I'm glad your doc is getting you started on the progesterone. Please keep us updated. :).

I initially asked about suppositories because I read somewhere that suppositories help length and strength cervix and injections help with preterm labo. However she said the studies recommend either the cerclage or the suppositories so since I got cerclage we can try injections. But I'm going to stay hopeful and continue to take it easy. Anything that will help is what I'm interested in. And thanks I will keep you posted on things!!!

Hi there, I am praying for you and hoping that your doctor will continue to step up! If it's first pregnancy, the vaginal suppositories work better. But with multiple pregnancies, they tend to go more for the shots. I was diagnosed with short cervix at 19 weeks and started on bedrest and vaginal progesterone. I started seeing a specialist right away also- so maybe ask for a referral to a high risk doctor- they are amazing too! Around 22 weeks, I started having contractions so I had to get magnesium sulfate at the hospital and was put on procardia for the contractions. I am currently 28 weeks and at my 24 week ultrasound,  my cervix was 0.7 mm, varying up to 1.7 mm. I pretty much only get up to use the restroom and shower and stay in bed. My doctor checks my cervix weekly now but they are not doing any more cervical measurements. Please keep us posted and ask to see a high risk specialist! They will make you feel so much better too!

I go back to the dr on next Friday on the 25th I'm going to ask her about the specialist but I'm also currently still waiting on the injections as well. I'm gonna call tomorrow and check the progress on that cause I'm wanting to go ahead and start them. And yes I will keep everyone posted and thanks for the prayers...and congrats for making it this far. I hope I can do the same as well

Awesome. Keep doing what your doing, many success stories of people making it to term funneled all the way to the stitch. Continue all the precautions possible to keep your little one in there cooking. Keep us updated. I'm 33 weeks as of yesterday.

Keep strong!!! You will be where I am soon enough. It felt like it took forever to get to 30 weeks. Now I look back and feel time passed fast and now the weeks fly by.

Time will start passing for sure! I remember my weeks 20-24 were the longeeeeest weeks ever and now it is for sure going much quicker. When all of this started for me, 29 weeks sounded like forever away and now looking back, these last few weeks have been a breeze. Yay for the injections!!! The specialists see our problems all the time, so trust them and keep cooking that peanut :)

Hang in there Jenn!  I hope you've felt that the weeks have been flying (although the days certainly can drag on...).  Sounds like you have a competent team that is listening to you and helping bring that sweet baby to term.  Sending prayers!
