20 weeks, 1 cm cervix, twins *Update
« on: September 06, 2017 at 03:37 AM »
This is my first pregnancy. I went through a fertility treatment and doctors gave me a 5% chance. My husband and I were beyond ecstatic when we found out we were pregnant with twins. However, at 18 weeks I found out I have a short cervix. At 20 weeks my cervix had thinned to only 1 cm. A cerclage is not recommend because it can do more harm than good with twins. My husband and I have been looking into a pessary. Currently, I am in bed rest. I just get up to to go to the bathroom and take a shower. I'm also on progesterone suppositories. Any success stories similar to mine? I'm desperate and just looking for hope.

I am currently 22 weeks and my cervix went down to .5 cm. I am currently looking for a doctor in central or Southern California that performs a pessary procedure. Cerclages are not recommended for twins, and a pessary shows very promising results. Please, any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Hello. I am not in your position as I'm only carrying one child however I want you to get some info. This is an amazing site but not always very active depending on topic, there are some very active twin IC groups on baby center.com and those members can also refer you to private active Facebook groups for twins and IC and That will lead you to many more resources and and Help you access a larger population of people going through the same thing.
I wish you a lot of luck and lots of baby dust and prayers coming your way. Keep us updated

I have read a large amount of medical studies and success stories and I agree your best intervention as you said is the pessary, vaginal progesterone and possibly progesterone injections as well, procardia if having contractions, along with bed rest and complete pelvic rest. I'm so glad you are in California as they will definitely have specialists and hospitals very educated in cases like yours. :)

Hello, Desperatemom - I too have mono/di twins cooking and going through the same thing. I live in Canada and for me, I've just been prescribed progesterone suppositories and bed rest (where I can get up and go to the bathroom and shower etc). I was on hospital bed rest till 29w, but now I'm home, hoping I'll be here for the long haul. I don't have too much to update you on, but just trying to do the minimal activity, sit up reclined and lay whenever I get a chance. Hang in there, I do believe a positive outlook and feet up bed rest is key!
