Monday Roll Call! June 14
« on: June 14, 2010 at 06:59 AM »
Good morning, ladies!

I spent the entire day yesterday at the American College of Nurse-Midwives annual meeting and I feel SO optimistic for the future of preterm birth prevention. Over the coming months I'll have new developments to share related to product development, genetic testing, and online activities for bedrest moms.

So what are YOU optimistic about this week? What has been going right? And as always, let us know many weeks you are and if you have any appointments this week.

I am new here.  I'm 21 weeks today, just started "bedrest" a few days ago.
My OB has been watching me closely since my 3 1/2 yr old daughter was born for unknown reasons at 26 weeks 5 days.  I had no complications with that pregnancy, just went into labor.
It took my husband & I a while to feel like we were ready to try this again, knowing the possibility of having another baby spend time in the NICU.  All has been well this pregnancy so far.  My OB put me on a lifting restriction from the time I saw her at 6 weeks.  At 16 weeks I started the 17P injections (just had #6 last night).  At 18 weeks we started cervical lengths w/ transvag U/S & will check this every 2 weeks.  I have tried to maintain a positive outlook thus far - I WILL make it to term!
My 1st two cervical lengths have been 40-44 mm so we are very happy with that!
She took me off work & told me to take it easy at home (but I'm being extra cautious & trying to treat more like bedrest) because of what looked like placenta previa vs. vasa previa.  My OB & the perinatologist both looked at the scan & couldn't be sure one way or the other because of how the baby was positioned.
Bedrest is harder than I thought!  I brought my daughter to daycare today & will from time to time.  It's hard watching my husband try to do everything in addition to working.  And, to sit back when I see something that needs to be done.
Plus, just the mental games that your head plays with you!  This is only day #4 so far & I'm already starting to feel depressed.  Not just about feeling helpless, but thinking pessimistic thoughts that there's no way I can take this baby to term now, etc.   :(
I had my 1st two contractions that I've actually taken note of yesterday morning.  They were an hour apart.  I went to the bathroom after the 1st one, realizing that my bladder was feeling full & the 2nd came when I was up to the bathroom again.  I tried to tell myself that I was due for my 17P shot that day & that was probably why.  But all day, I kept checking my tummy thinking I was contracting again.  I still keep thinking today that I'm contracting.
My stomach is still always soft when I touch it, but it just feels weird - almost like tingling on the surface & like something going on inside.  I think I'm going to drive myself crazy!  Contractions scare the crap out of me!!!  I don't want to over react....but don't want to under react either!
I look forward to hearing from more of you as we go through this journey together!

Yay! Another week, I am 27 weeks and 5 days with BBG triplets! I went to the doc on Friday and the babies thank god are all nice weights! My cervix is the same 6 mm, so far not really dialated, maybe just a bit. I have contractions all day but thats to be expected, they just make me nervous. I have been on bedrest for three weeks today, and I'm not going totally crazy yet.
Things that are bothering me/ coming up this week:
My 4 year old son has graduation on Wednesday and I will be the only Mommy not there, my mother is going in my place, but its not the same. My mother will tape it and I will watch it with him at home.
We bought a house last week, I havent seen it in 6 months, my husband, father, and father in law are doing some construction. My husband sends me pics, but I cant give my opinion, or pick out tiles, or kitchen cabinets, or see if I like the paint colors I choose on the walls.
But keeping my babies in is my number 1 priority right now. My husband and I planned a romantic dinner at an expensive restarant for wed. when I hit 28 weeks, oh well, cant go!

Yay! We made it another week! Woohoo!

Tomorrow will make 31 weeks for us. It's a new record every day, since this is my 4th pregnancy, but the first time I've ever stayed pregnant this far in. It's pretty groovy. I am so very thankful to have this cerclage in place. It's scary to think that we almost didn't have it done, and the decision to go ahead with the cerclage was just made because we found out we had twins.

Who knew that bedrest could be so busy? I've started NSTs, so I have to go in on Tuesday and Thursday for those. Hopefully, Will (our baby A), will cooperate this week and play nice while they are trying to track his heart rate. He just barely passed his first NST last week, while Robert (baby B) was busy with all sorts of acrobatics. I think I'll have a talk with William, because I'd like not to be so worried about him this week.

On Wednesday, we have our regular check-up with the Maternal/Fetal specialist. It wouldn't be a Wednesday if I wasn't getting poked with a big ol needle (progesterone).  ;)

We are 27 weeks and 3 days!  Our goal is 36 weeks so it's comforting to know that I only have to be on bed rest another 8 weeks and 4 days (But who's counting right? ;) ).  We had an OB visit last week and the Dr. is concerned with how low I am carrying.  I looked like I did when I dropped with my last one.  So the OB did a vaginal exam and I am still firm and closed up!  But he told me to monitor for any regular contractions since baby is so low.  AND- of course- take it easy!  Baby is active and moving so that makes me happy.

Congrats to Jenna and all you other mama's keeping those babies in!

I'm 27w 3d too!  6 weeks of bed rest done!  I'm nearing my next goal of 28 weeks and then the goal after that will be 32.    I find the short term goals help, because it's overwhelming to think of the long term.  I have an ultrasound and appointment next Tuesday.  It will check growth, cervical length, biophysical profile, etc.  I am really looking forward to finding out more information and seeing whether my cervix has changed.  I've had a bit of pain (lower abdomen and lower back) but no cramping or contractions.  I hope it stays that way!

How often are you guys getting your cervix checked?
I'm scheduled for every 2 weeks, but since being put on bedrest last week Thursday, I just have this uneasy feeling & really want to be checked, even though my cervix was 41-44 mm last week.  I keep thinking I'm having contractions, but am not sure.  I have a bit of a backache but have attributed it to laying around & off/on weird feeling in my perineum/vagina - achy/numb.  I don't know if if's my mind playing tricks on me or what so I called the clinic yesterday to tell them what I was feeling & they said I should be OK, just keep an eye on things.  I think I'm going to call in today & ask to be seen just for peace of mind.
I don't want to overdue the ultrasounds but just need peace of mind too?

hoping4fullterm, after I ended up in the hospital my doc checked me twice a week, no change, so then once a week, now its every two weeks, like you. I am so nervous too, I do have contractions all day. Doc said that as long as its not in a pattern its fine, they expect it because I am carrying three, and my uterus is irritable. On my last sono on this past friday, i had a contraction and I saw m cervix totally open and then close, it was really freaky. You do what you can, take it really easy, and pray, that is what I do. Good Luck!

HI Ladies. I'm new to this message board. I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow with our first child. I've been on bed rest for the past 2 weeks, the first week of it was spent in the hospital. I have a short cervix which has grown some thanks to the bed rest, now 25 mm. I'm a grant writer for a local nonprofit, and thankfully, they have allowed me to continue to do my work from home. Otherwise, I'd go nuts all day!  It's comforting to know that there are others out there...lying on their sides in the same situation! :)
