Hi I’m new here I’m 21 weeks along I am one day postop from cerclage surgery and I will be on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. Trying to get a graduate degree online and struggling with all of these emotions.  Just want my baby girl to keep cooking! Loving this support system and grateful for all of you and your stories.

Hi,

I’m sorry you’re going through all this. My situation is not exactly like yours but I too underwent emergency cerclage surgery at 21+5 and have been on bedrest since then. I recall the perinatologist giving me the risks and benefits of a cerclage and it was horrifying to hear all the different complications from the cerclage surgery. As a mom, it is terrifying when you want your baby to be safe but your body is not cooperating. You feel helpless, hopeless and even angry at times. I have been on bedrest at home mostly but had to be hospitalized twice since then, each time wondering if I could ever reach the point where I can see my baby earth side safe and sound. I am currently 30+1 and still not at the safest time point yet but the days did eventually pass and with the help and support of the doctors, we will keep going as long as we can. Your situation is more stressful but trust in those around you trying to help you and your little one the best they can. Bedrest is a depressing experience but it’s one of the best things you can do right now for your baby so do your best to find ways to keep your mind sane. Good luck and I wish you the best on your journey.

Messages from our members on Facebook:

From Ashley: First baby I was on strict bedrest at 25 weeks to 35 weeks with .5 cm of my cervix left and we made it to 38 weeks. Second baby I had a cerclage placed at 15 weeks and we made it to 37 weeks with no bed rest. Please keep the hope. Your body is capable of amazing things 💜 there are many success stories on this forum. Cling to the positive. That’s what helped me get through it.

From Samantha:
I was on hospital bed rest 22-28 weeks. Daughter spent 69 days in the nicu and is 7 now 💜

Hi, Adognurse! How have theses last couple of days been?

I have a few more messages for you from our Facebook groups:

From Parijat Deshpande, High-Risk Pregnancy Specialist:
I interviewed an amazing women about her PPROM success story in my podcast. Hope this helps! http://bit.ly/dmep116

From Nikki:
I was pregnant with twins and at 17 weeks and 5 days I gave birth to baby girl A but after they put a cerclage in and kept my other daughter cooking all the way to 34 weeks. It's such a tough situation that you are in but every day that goes by is better and better. Just take it day by day and know that you are not alone. Wishing you positive vibes.

Thank you for everyone’s kind words. I don’t do Facebook so I cAn only see what is on here but I appreciate the support! My water broke and even though I haven’t gone into labor it’s very unlikely that she can have proper lungs to survive so I have lost hope and that is worse than anything. Now looking into getting a pre pregnancy abdominal cerclage for next time.

I am so sorry. Your mind is probably all over the place, wanting to be positive but also realistic. I will say that I've seen some miracles here with women whose water broke yet they stayed pregnant for weeks or longer. I understand that me sharing that might not matter much to you because you are not them. You are YOU with your own set of circumstances. Still, I wanted to let you know it is possible.

Have you asked about your hospital's policy on resuscitation and other active measures? Some hospitals use 23 weeks as the cutoff and others use 24. Have they offered for you to have a social worker or other mental healthcare professional come talk to you? I hate to think of you going through through so many difficult emotions alone if they have someone you can talk to. I don't know if you believe in prayer or thoughts of positivity, but I am sending both. (((hugs)))
