23 weeks 2 days thinned out cervix no cerclage
« on: December 14, 2010 at 02:34 PM »
SO happy to fiind this website and this community. I have been on bed restfor a weeks today I was admitted at the hospital with a 0.4 cervix and now its non measurable. I am not dialated and not bleeding or having contraccions. When I was admitted I was given a talk about probably not making it and the possibility of going in to labor that day or the next and we have made it to a week. My hospital considers a baby viable at 23 weeks so I was given the steroids as soon as I hit the 23 week mark. I am looking for inspiration and hope I dont have a lot to go on, just faith and hearing that the baby is fine and growing. I can take showers every 3 days and I am on bed rest. The resting does not bother me since I feel better at the hospital with the proper medical attention and I know that if something would happen they would be able to respond right away as opposed to me being at home.
Has anyone been on this situation and made out ok. I have read about people that are further along and with a longer cervix and I try to remain positive and think about a day at a time 28 week mark seems like a dream at this point. This is my first and very much wanted pregnancy.

LuLu,
Welcome - I'm new here too. Thinned cervix but not as thin as yours. I know it seems impossible. I was put on rest at 21 weeks, and now i'm 25! and 28 still seems like a crazy dream. But we can do it together.

Do you have access to your computer at the hospital most of the time.
feel free to find me on facebook or twitter.
Jacqueline Ernst.
We can do this for our babe's !! don't fret or stress - it doesn't help anything.
blessings and praying lots.

Hi Lulu!!

Keep on thinking positive and following doctors orders.

I was 0.1 cm (funneling with 2 cm dilation) since 26 weeks.  I remember that grim talk from the pediatrician on what would happen if my baby was born that early.  I tried not to think about it and focus on 28 weeks, then 32 then 34 etc.   I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow!!  No cerclage, strict bedrest, procardia til 36 weeks.

good luck!!

Hi Lulu,
Once I read your story I'd thought it would help you to know that my story is similar to yours with this pregnancy.  I had been searching in different forums, and like you, I found similar stories, but with cervix size longer than mine.  I am currently 23 weeks and 5 days along with my second pregnancy - I have a 17 month old baby girl, making things that much more difficult.  Being that with my first pregnancy I had a 1.2 cervix size at 25 weeks, the docs. and specialist made sure they checked my cervix every 2 weeks this time around.  I have no cerclage. With my first I was hospitalized for about 3 days and did strick bedrest from home after my 3 day stay at the hospital.  I was able to do the strick bedrest with the support of my mother and husband - and I kept her in for 38 weeks.  Needless to say, I was in labor for only 1 hour and 45 minutes.  This time around things unfortunately are a little more delicate.  My cervix went from 3.9 to 2.5 in a matter of 2 weeks and one week after that, my cervix was pretty much non-measureable, and they think I may be a little open.  The docs. told me that since I was only 22 weeks at the time, the baby was not viable and I had to do strick bedrest at home and if i kept him in, to go to the hospital at 24 weeks, once the baby was viable.  Well, this Saturday I'll be on my way to the hospital for a very long stay.  They'll give me the steroids shots on Saturday, and hope and pray that I keep him in.  Even though with my daughter I had some cervix, it still was 1.2 practically nothing and I kept her in for 38 weeks - I'm planning to do the same with this one.  What I can tell you is that WE CAN DO THIS, and we'll be going through it together.  Even though it is an unfortunate situation for both of us, it helps to know we are not alone. The thought of going to the hospital for so long is overwhelming to me, but I have to tell you that what you wrote about feeling better at the hospital with the proper medical attention really motivated me.  As my husband told me, you do the best that you can do within your power - in our case it's bedrest, and the rest you leave to our higher power.  Hope to hear from you, Ely

UPDATE: 23 weeks 2 days thinned out cervix no cerclage

Unfortunately my baby died a day after the post. I felt weird and asked the nurse to check for contractions since I was having some pain. There was no heartbeat. I was induced and gave birth to a beautiful baby, apparently there was an infection that penetrated through the opening. I wish you all the best and I know this is not the end for me. Next time  I will be considered high risk and given a cerclage or progesterone shots from the beginning. Sad that some high risk doctors are only willing to be agressive and intervene if there is a history of previous pre term labor. This could have possibly been avoided, but they kept on telling me, next time, next time as if THIS time was not as important. I wish you all the best and pray that you stay strong.

Lulu, I as so sorry you had to go through that loss.  My prayers are with you and your family.  There are no words that could possibly help you feel better, but we have to believe that everything that happens, happens for a reason.  My story is very similar to yours with 24 wks and a non-measurable cervix, with a small dialationin. I was admitted to the hospital today, and am praying for the best at this point.
Good Luck
Ely
